Bars of chocolate at reception, a glass jar full of sweets in your room (which, might I add is FREE and gets refilled everyday!), bon bon shaped pillows and liquorice allsorts stools. We were there for a conference and every day our meeting room was restocked with test tubes full of jellybeans and plates of brightly hued macaroons - seriously dangerous for someone weak willed like myself. Sweet treats aside, this hotels ticks all the boxes for me - handy central location, friendly and professional staff, sizeable rooms and heavenly pillows. The only negative for me was the lack of plugs bedside - where is one supposed to charge their phone? I only got back from Australia on Monday but I've already been singing the Aldelphi's praises to my friends. Hopefully I'll be back soon!

The hotel is also close to Swanston Street, one of the main streets in CBD. My room was a decent size, and upon arrival, it was nice seeing a personalised message written on the mirror wishing me a lovely stay at the Adelphi. The best part of staying there was that all the snacks and drinks in the mini bar were FREE throughout my entire stay. And these were quality snacks and drinks. I've never seen that before in my life. It was awesome sauce. I also liked the toiletries provided. I believe the name of the brand was Apelle, and they give you a coupon code (10% off, I think) if you want to order them online. Another cool thing they did was leave a macaron next to your bed in the evening. And they were delicious macarons! The things I didn't like were that the wifi wasn't that great (it was okay, but don't expect to be able to do any streaming or heavy duty stuff.) My bed was a little bit too soft; it didn't bother me personally but for those with back problems, it might. Also, you have to walk up a flight of stairs from the street level to get to the lobby, so if you have a heavy suitcase, you're going to have to work a bit. Other than that, great location, awesome decor, and I wouldn't mind staying there again.

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure Treasury Gardens for four nights while staying in Melbourne…read more We were lucky enough to find out that Mercure has a free Shuttlebus pickup/drop off from the airport, which was a huge plus as we had no transportation in Melbourne. Upon check in, we were greeted warmly and informed that our room was not yet ready, so would we like a drink while we waited? We happily accepted, and enjoyed a couple of beers in the lobby while they got our room ready. **Disclaimer: Upon checkout, we were billed for said drinks. In the future, I will decline which we assumed were complimentary beverages. We got a room that overlooked the gardens, which was especially lovely at night when the city lit up after dark. The room itself was standard - lots of deep purples and fuchsias in the decor. It was a decent size for two people, a little run down (chips on the corners of walls, scratches on furniture and carpet was a bit dirty) but overall comfortable. The wifi was spotty, and only gave you a small allowance of data over the course of 24 hours, at which point if you exceeded what you were able to log in so long as you were exercising "responsible usage" AKA sharing with other hotel guests, I assume. We shared an entree in the Lime restaurant downstairs, which consisted of mini meat pies, samosas and quiches, which was verrryyy average. Breakfast was much better, however the soy latte I ordered was weak and lacking in actual coffee flavor. The best part about this hotel is its central location to pretty much everything. Right down the block are several free tram zones, Flinder's Street Station, shopping, the Regent Theatre (where we saw The Lion King!!), and heaps of amazing restaurants. Mostly everything was walking distance to the hotel. Just for location reasons alone I would definitely stay there again.

The entrees, mains and deserts all contain two vegan options. And the kitchen is so proud (rightly so) of its vegan chocolate mousse that it even provides the recipe. Mains are a great offering of Asian fusion fare. If your tired of the "alternative" lifestyle vegan offerings, this is a great choice with views across the Treasury Gardens.

Walking distance from Punt Road and Chapel Street and a nice 1.5km walk to the MCG on a fine day. It is surrounded by awesome food choices many with take away options. There are two IGA's within close proximity one 24hr and one open until 11.00pm. The apartments are fresh clean and airy - the one I stayed in had a great view of Toorak Road. The beds were super comfortable and there were good heating options.A small kitchen is included and you could easily make a meal given the stove tops. There was also a washing machine and dryer in the apartment which was super useful. Staff were very obliging and friendly at all times of the day and reception is open until 10.00pm which is handy. There is also a room service option available. Units were serviced everyday and I didn't have a complaint at all with the accommodation. Look out for the room specials I paid $99.00 a night which was amazing value given the quality of the accommodation. Will definitely stay here again on my return to Melbourne.

The mattress and pillows are high quality as is the shower. If you want a bite or drink we found the hotel bar to be surprisingly reasonable price wise and the pizza we had was really good! Location wise - it's a bit away from the center but you can't go wrong as the free tram is steps away and gets you to 99% of what you want to do - FREE!! The Skybus is also less than a block away as well. If you need it, a giant ass mall is across the street. Plenty of cafes, bars, shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk. The special and cool aspect about this train is that you can choose to sit along the side with your legs dangling out. This way, you have an even better view of the stunning Dandenong mountain Ranges, full of ash trees and lush green foliage. We went from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park, where there was a charming lake, little museum, cafe, and gift shop. I'm glad I had a chance to experience this!

The great thing about this railway is that it is quite accessible, being located right next to the Belgrave railway station. Mind you, it is a steam train, and a rather small one as well, but the route that it takes is certainly quite impressive. However, I have noticed that it is pretty expensive, so it certainly isn't something for a budget traveller. However, it you have the cash, it is definitely a fun day out for the kids.
