Here, you get it all--shade sail covering the adult area with many picnic tables, a separate patio area for adults with chairs, a giant playpen-like structure with a bouncy ball in it and lined with garage tiles for safe falls for younger toddlers. There is a play set for younger kids and for older. I would say about age 3 to about 8 or 10. There is a car on a spring that rocks; a big, spiral slide, straight slights, a fake climbing mountain with seats on top, and tons and tons of options to climb and swing, including a jungle gym and even spiral-style monkey bars (they go in circle, rather than just in a straight line. There's a balance beam, different types of swings, and really everything you could possibly want. All that's missing is the kids, really. Absolutely amazing place. The greatest likelihood to catch other kids to play with is before lunchtime. The only downside is that there is zero shade on the actual playground itself. Very important note: This place is public and at the back of a church parking lot. Turn in right beside the blue library sign, and drive alllll the way back. You cannot see the playground from the street at all, not even upon turning into the lot.

To your left, the path is covered in Kudzu vines, maintained by Hopewell Parks and Rec, creating a gorgeous backdrop for selfies or group photos. On your right, the scenic Appomattox River provides a lovely view of the water. Whether you're looking to get some exercise, have a picnic, practice mindfulness, or enjoy one of the many events, like the spectacular fireworks in July. This spot is a real "walk" in the park!

This park offers a stunning trail that courses along the Appomattox River. The trail serves as the Northern trailhead for the river trail system and is absolutely gorgeous. The walk is mostly shaded by trees and features great scenery of the water. We spotted a variety of creatures which made the walk a bit more fun. The entire trail is paved and is wheelchair accessible making it a great option for anyone who wants to check it out. Despite the gorgeous scenery this trail offers it has limited visibility due to the curves and foliage that is present. At some points during it you may not be able to see who is around the corner or behind you on the trail, if that is important to you, you may want to check out the trail with a trail buddy rather than going alone. Overall, this is a lovely spot if you're looking for a paved trail that offers some scenic views. This park also offers fishing spots and you can bike, run or walk the trail making it a great option for a variety of activities.

We were skipping rocks on the water and watching the geese lift off into the stratosphere! The best thing of all is that we got to hang out as a family. I know alot of kids these days get stuck on the screens so it was nice to see mine throw rocks and get dirty! Alot of nice people on the trail even spotted some folks fishing i hope the guy caught something. All in all it was a great little workout. The beginning of the trail does consist of a winding descent so keep that in mind as the incline back can be hard for some. Once you get down you'll find yet another playground with a fun insect/nature theme. Making this a fun spot for kids and families. The amazing part of this park is the bridge that allows you to walk through the marshlands, the bridge does shake a little bit but overall felt pretty sturdy. It offers stunning views and is a lovely deviation from other nature trails. There are a variety of marked natural trails that vary in intensity/length making this place a great spot for all levels. Along the trails are also little lookouts so you can really enjoy the views. The trails are a bit secluded so you may want a trail buddy if you plan to walk past the marsh bridge if visibility is important to you. The trails are mainly wooded which offers a nice amount of shade which is great for the warmer months. There is also tons of parking available and multiple shelters for picnics or events. Overall, this is an amazing park and definitely worth a little drive to check out!

Some of the courts and fields have lighting available and some of the softball fields can be reserved. I enjoyed the walking track today, some of which is natural and some of which is paved. A great walk through some trees and shade. There's apparently 2.1 miles of track, even if I only used a small portion of it. Kids will enjoy the playground which has benches nearby for the adults to use while the kids are playing. There is parking out the wazoo here. Just not allowed overnight. It's definitely out-of-the-way and you wouldn't know it was there unless you're looking for it. However the actual park once you are through the entrance and to the main crux of it is quite big and has a shocking number of sports facilities ranging from fields for football and soccer to tennis courts to a golf course. It is very much intertwined with the nature around it but also clear and organized enough so you feel you aren't just in the woods. There are a scattered number of parking lots that may be good for normal capacity but I feel for big games on the fields/facilities it may get packed quickly.

There was a gentleman inside one of the houses who spent a great deal of time telling me about the adjacent native tribes that were involved, and paid a special homage to the Queen of the Pamunkey tribe. The parking lot is decently sized and can accommodate a lot of people. They have a nice overlook bluff with picnic tables which is great for enjoying nature and having a scenic view. The walking trail has multiple offshoots that allow you to explore, get closer to the water and has benches sprinkled throughout. I absolutely loved my time here getting to just sit and relax in such a beautiful, peaceful environment. They also offer history reenactments here as well, while I have not checked that out yet I am excited to.

If you're not a stickler for rules, like me, this is the place for you because anything goes…read more My kids and I have a blast here. There's so much in the water to do. The only rule they have is that you have to wear a lifejacket for the blob and the newly added trampoline. I'm sure that's just because if you launch your kid high enough on the blob, they could possibly lose consciousness on the impact of the water. Life jacket will keep them afloat. There is an abundance of open container alcohol drinking and profanity, but if you like to people watch while you're grabbing a snack (and don't really get horribly offended by profanity in front of your kids), this is the place for you. We do thoroughly enjoy ourselves here.
