What sets this place apart is its friendly environment and students who respect each other and help each other get better, its administration Colleen such a caring individual and finally the owner Lisa who is an amazing enthusiast of the sport and a good judge but I think my review would be incomplete if I did not talk about what makes this place great, above all else, the greatness of a MMA academy is because of its students but also because of its instructors. Matador MMA is blessed to have an elite instructor cohort which has an active presence in competitive MMA spheres; starting with Professor Pavel who was the silver medalist for Ontario Open Jiu Jitsu championships in May 2026, followed by Coach Naz who won the Mayhem Fight Promotions Boxing Championship also in May 2026 followed up by Coach Anastasia who won her ONE championship fight in Thailand in July 2026. Prof. Dane, Coach Xavier and Coach Alex train the young Muay Thai fighters who go and win new competitions and belt levels, Coach Alex gives his all to little ones learning the techniques and giving them confidence to be better day in and day out... and finally the one and only Coach Ivan who trains the kids and adults of this club, a man of monumental stature and one whose leadership in the octagon and on the mats keeps churning out warriors. For those parents whose kids train at Matador MMA could not be more thankful to have a cohort of teachers who give their all to give life skills to our children, for that we are ever thankful to them. Matador is the place if you want yourself and/or your kids excelling in life as the discipline learnt here goes a long way in their daily lives and education. Compared to other places I've been to, it was a really effective work-out class and they really helped improve on your kickboxing skills. They're serious about the lessons, not just focusing on cardio. During the summer, you'd see a lot of regulars and also new members joining. My rating for the gym would be 2.5 stars. The reason for the rating is for its customer service and miscommunication. When I decided to start and opt in for 6 months, I felt really welcomed as a new member for the first month. Normally I never sign up for long term memberships, however, I decided to opt in because I was told I could hold the membership if I go out of town or am not able to go even with the membership I'm getting. Two months went by and I contacted the owner directly via e-mail and text informing him that I would like to put it on hold for July, but I was not able to due to short notice. I then requested for September to be on hold during August. I finally hear back requesting for more information, and had responded to it. FOUR months went by without a word, so I decided to follow-up. It was then he informed me that I had to sign a form to change the status of my membership. When I went the same weekend, the owner was not available but had told another instructor to attend to me, that I was there to cancel the membership, which was not my intent at all as I have been requesting for it to be on hold. I contacted the owner wanting to clarify, but it was not until then that I was provided for all the information that I needed over August until January. I wasn't given proper information I needed and wasted my membership for the last couple of months, and no accommodations were made. Great class.. but I felt like the customer service could improve by a lot, and definitely felt the information could have been provided more clearly and much more efficiently.

Lower level contains all the gym equipment - the cardio machines, free weights, and assisted weight machines as well as a personal trainer area and a turf zone. Place is brightly lit with floor to ceiling windows. When this place first opened, I loved it, but now it's gotten way too busy and they're constantly selling memberships every time I go. There's personal trainers and staff everywhere. I have tried a few classes and instructors are very energetic but I wish they'd switch up the routine a little bit. Change rooms are clean with spacious lockers and a private change room for the more modest people. It's a good gym but if you're looking for some quiet time to workout without too many people present, this is not the place to be. Come during off hours. Gym is 24/4 Monday to Thursday and closes early on the weekends.
