As an appetizer we shared the fish dish (schol). Really recommend this dish. It was just an explosion of flavors on a plate. Just perfect. We got the steak dinner - medium rare. It was perfectly cut up. Crispy fries (still don't match the fries I get at Frits, but close). Added some low res photos my friend took.

This place has been ranked 2nd best in it's category (2012) nation wide for product quality, not…read moretaking into account their huge variety. I have to say the proprietors are a bit 'unusual' in that one might lose sight of a customer completely after a pigeon that just flew in 'ruined' the shop window, when this could be dealt with after having taken care of the customer. But I guess that only adds to the charm (if you're not in a hurry lol). This does not however diminish in any way the quality of their product. Their freshly roasted nuts are delicious, often still a bit warm when just after you bought them. They often have salted and NON salted versions of most nuts. They also have a nice selection of dried fruits and berries and if I remember correctly homemade peanut butter (I still have to try that one though). For a great selection of freshly roasted nuts, dried fruits and the like, this place will not disappoint you.

Nice bites menu and it's a great spot to meet someone after work for a drink and some nibbles before heading home. The service isn't that great, and I know people same that's just Amsterdam, but it's not. I rarely have a service issue in this city. I think the vibe could really be changed with some friendly faces and service. Cool space, but it's obvious that something is lacking. Oh and yes, as in some bars and restaurants in Amsterdam, there is a cat. Not sure why this is a thing, but as someone allergic to cats, I probably won't be back.

They change the menu often, mostly it's uncomplicated comfort food with the occasional twist on a classic (marrocan tomato soup) Their wine menu is more elaborated that their beer menu as they mostly have the addict Dutch brands. In the summer every Sunday they live music ranging from Jazz to old Dutch classics!

To me it lacked some spice or kick. If for instance Indian food is too spicy for you, Mr. Pinoy is the way to go. I have no comparison, because this was the first time ever I had Filipino food. It all seemed a little fat as well. But, it tasted ok. The guy who helped me was really friendly and they've only been open for two weeks. At the moment you need to pay cash. But that will be fixed in two weeks and they're working on delivery. Three stars at this point, spice it up some more and this could be really good.

The owners are from Pampanga, which is renowned to be one of the foodie regions of the country. It's a land locked region that had a significant Spanish influence, so expect a lot of meats (pork, chicken and beef). Flavors tend to be savory, sometimes sweet and often rich. This is not diet food! If you want it spicy, ask for a side sauce to add to it - they'll happily oblige - but the food will not come spicy. It's just not part of the cuisine, the spice is added after. Particularly good at Mr Pinoy are: 1. Longanisa - sweet and savory sausage that is usually served with eggs and rice 2. Tocino - sweet and savory pork belly also served with eggs and rice. They also have a chicken version that I didn't try yet. 3. Bulalo - beef shank soup 4. Liempo - grilled pork belly 5. Crisy Pata - deep fried pork knuckle 6. Menudo - Stew with garlic, onions, diced pork, diced potatoes, soy sauce, vinegar, tomato sauce and some other ingredients To those familiar with Filipino cuisine, give them a call a head of time so you can find out what they're cooking for the day, or they can prepare what you like or get the grill fired up for fresh liempo. You can eat in or take out. Their toko is also well stocked and with much better prices than some of the larger Asian markets. PLUS - they have the hot & spicy vegetarian chicharron that I fell in love with the last trip to the Philippines.
