The sea bass was the best I've ever had anywhere; crispy crust and deliciously moist inside. The vegetable spring rolls were so good I wished I had gotten a second order. Brussels sprouts were leveled by my party of 4 in minutes - cooked perfectly and the sauce is wonderful. I really enjoyed the sashimi as well. The teriyaki steak was tasty, but the steak itself was very fatty and gristly. So I ordered this through grubhub. I'm typically really leery about ordering sushi that's not on a coastal state for obvious reasons, but this place wasn't too bad. My driver handed me a bag that looked like it came from a Tiffany & Co store, so I'm guessing this is more of a high-end sushi joint and not an AYCE, which typically have better quality fish anyhow. I ordered the sushi + sashimi for 1. I'm kind of wishing now that I would have ordered individual rolls. This was sort of a chef's hodgepodge of probably what their best sellers are. I had a California roll, I think with ahi. I had a piece of yellowfin, salmon, and a few others. There are also some nice thick slices of ahi and other fish. I would definitely like to go to this place in person, and actually get to explore more of the menu. I think this particular plate was around 35 bucks, so I kind of wish there would have been like a hand roll or maybe another special roll included with it. But all in all not bad. This was only our second visit, and unfortunately both experiences were disappointing--so I'll focus on the most recent. We were a party of four and ended up being seated for two and a half hours while tables around us turned over multiple times. We understood it was a busy night and tried to be patient, but our server was largely absent, forgot one of our orders, and while very kind personally, did not provide attentive or effective service. Not to mention we spent over $250. When we shared our concerns with the host stand, we received a brief "sorry about that," which felt dismissive after such a long and frustrating experience. Came here after seeing great reviews, and it lived up to the hype. My wife and I weren't hungry, so we only ordered two rolls: Angry Dragon and Tuna Princess. Both were awesome, with some interesting flavor profiles. Meanwhile, our kids loved the crispy chicken and fried pork dumplings. Ambience is a great for a first date vibe. It's quiet enough to get some good talking but it's not dead. So you'll still have the chatter of people but not as loud as other places like a pub or family restaurant. The sushi was okay, I wouldn't say it's the best I ever had but it was fairly decent and fresh. The sushi rice was a bit dry, so rather than a soft pillow and good chew sushi rice it was a bit on the harder side. It honestly needed to be cooked with more water or added more sushi vinegar. But the fish itself was good. No fishy smell, bright vivid color to the meat, and the tempura was crispy. So we'll done there. The maki rolls could've been better. They use tempura crisps in their maki rolls as a filler instead of giving more of the fish. So it's a texture that I don't care for. The takoyaki was perfect. Came out hot, fluffy, soft, and perfectly cooked octopus. It was a sweet and savory appetizer with a good crispy outside. The spicy chicken wontons was perfect too. It was sweet savory and a hint of salty and crispy outside with soft inside filling. The dip paired nicely with it. Finally the fried green tea ice cream was perfect. It was cold on the inside, bitter but sweet green tea ice cream, and the crispy coating that wasn't too thick. Overall would come again. read more

First off, this location is BEAUTIFUL. We came just before a huge rush of people, and knowing that there's a wait - we know it's a good place!! I LOVE this sushi place, and am only sad that I haven't came sooner!! I tried the toasted marshmallow drink & was so incredibly pleased. After a very positive experience at the Wasabi in Ames, we were excited to try this closer location. The sushi was good but was a bit different from the other location. Our waitress was very attentive and did a great job. The dessert fell short as the mochi ice cream was very grainy/mealy. They did provide a replacement to go, but the replacement was the same and wasn't that good due to the dough. The atmosphere in the restaurant was comparable to the other location so it was still overall an ok experience, though I'll be trying something different next time. read more

Me and my family love wasabi and we come in quite a bit. The last few times that we have been In we have got Shantel as our waitress ( Ask for her she's amazing!!) she takes great care of us. We love getting her as our server. Not only Is she great with new recommendations for me an my husband to try but she always gets us laughing as soon as we sit down. We enjoy her as our waitress. We did come In tonight and we were able to get Shantel but when we sat down and got our drinks, we noticed a gentlemen standing with his arms crossed and we were not sure If he was a manager or a new employee, but my husband and I notice that he was being extremely unkind to the other employees there and we just didn't like the way he was treating and talking to them. I don't think this person would be a manager, so I think a manager should bring him to the side and have a little chat with him and let him know that his behavior Is unprofessional and that he needs to know that guest can see when he Is being unkind and not being respectful to his other employees. First off: get the spicy edamame. It'll change your LIFE. Garlic, sriracha, wasabi, and some other good things make this absolutely addicting. My lips were burning in the best way! Next up: ramen. My dad got the ramen and absolutely loved it. Perfect bowl with big egg noodles and a soft egg. I got the Maki A roll--three rolls that filled me up! Great presentation. Not sure if they have a sushi happy hour, but they should! Finally, the miso glazed salmon. This is the ONLY thing my mom ever orders here because she got it once and is so obsessed she won't get anything else. I stole a bite and now I know why! I'd forgotten how much I loved this place. No I didn't forget, I just pulling your leg. Valentine's Day. Yes. Valentine's Day. Early evening, no reservations. Took a chance. I smiled super sweetly. The kids behind the desk gave us "that look" but Shawn stepped over, looked around, took a deep breath and made magic happen. He was going a million miles an hour. "Don't answer the phone. " someone said.... but moments later he was talking to someone. I love this place for sushi. They had it together and knew the rush was coming. Our sessions waitress said they had to turn off the take out phone line cause they were too busy. She stated us with waters, then took the sushi roll "crunchy salmon skin" and miso soup. We also got the Thunder Roll and Rock and Roll . My soup came first warming me up, then the rolls. I guess there crunch salmon skin takes a bit to make cause it came last. We both tried it together, watching each other's reactions. It was different. I about cried with laughter when my husband referred to it resembling a cat treat. I had been thinking the same thing. It was really good, just different which was what we'd wanted. When I could breathe again we devoured or sushi and made a timely exit. We didn't want to hold up a table that had been reserved for the smart people who had called ahead. Fantastic food as always, fantastic service, and great customer service that really made our night. My husband and I were craving some ramen so we tried Wasabi-Johnston tonight. Big mistake. We both got the kimchi ramen with pork in it. We both thought the ramen was very bland and underwhelming. Ever since Krunkwich closed we've been looking for a new ramen place to fill the void but we haven't found any place half as good. The pork didn't taste seasoned or marinated so it was pretty bland. The kimchi tasted like it came out of a jar (store-bought) and didn't have any great flavor to it. My mom used to make the best kimchi in the world when I was growing up so I know my kimchi. The broth was also pretty bland and didn't have that umami flavor I was hoping for. The noodles were almost as thick as linguine noodles and weren't authentic ramen noodles. And last but not least, my husband's egg was very cold. I didn't want an egg so I didn't get one. They probably precooked a bunch of them ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator. We were sorely disappointed and don't see a need to come back. I hate it when I'm excited to try a new place expecting great food and being disappointed. read more

A much-needed addition to the paltry Johnston dining scene, Wasabi is perfect for groups or a date with your main squeeze. The atmosphere in the dining area is modern and energetic, and the food was amazing. There's a small outdoor dining area, the bar is pretty neat if you like sitting at one of those, and the main dining area has plenty of booths and large open tables to choose from. We ate here with a group on a Friday night in the summer, and it was quite busy. The staff was able to keep up with everything and the service was quite attentive. We ended up sharing some rolls and a couple bottles of wine - it was a really nice night out. I was pleased with the selection of fish / sushi rolls, everything was fresh and well presented. The next time I eat here, I want to try one of the sushi dinners for two - it seemed like a really great value and the food looked amazing.
