We chose Washington due to its diverse student population, beautiful park like setting, STEAM programs and after school care. Washington Elementary is the only elementary school on this side of town and continues to boast a diverse population of students, the teachers and staff still know each child and parent by name. Washington has recently re-established a PTA chapter after 15 years without one. The great thing about this neighborhood school is that the majority of students are walked to school by a family member and our parents are very involved. Most events are "Standing Room Only". Decreases in enrollment numbers have put Washington on the list of schools being considered for consolidation / closure by the District. Our PTA, parents, teachers and staff are proactive in our attempts to keep Washington open. We have been conducting community outreach, as well as attending and speaking at School Board meetings, Community Engagement Meetings, conducted by the District, asking for ideas, suggestions and comments by all interested parties. PLEASE JUDGE THE REOPENED SCHOOL ON ITS OWN MERITS-NOT THE PAST To RJ.J- This school is scheduled to reopen as a STEAM school, focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The teachers and principal will be carefully screened and a great deal of time and resources will be poured into the school to make sure that the reopening is success for the students and the neighborhood. You are absolutely correct that our kids' futures are valuable and they deserve a high performing school. This is a great opportunity for a fresh start for this school. I don't have any experience with the former teachers, but I do know that the former principal is a wonderful man-extremely caring about the students and their families. I am sorry that you had a poor experience with him or the school, but please do not prejudge the reopened school based on past experiences. It will be a completely new school. Also, the safety issue you bring up is a very important one. It is imperative for parents who are concerned about issues to go to the principal or PTA and voice those concerns and also have a plan to solve the problem. Be part of the solution. Suggest a locked front area so all visitors must go through the office to register. Volunteer to be a yard duty or cafeteria monitor. Set up a committee to study safety on campus etc. I hope that you will take the time to find out about the proposed reopened school and give it a chance. This neighborhood needs and deserves a great neighborhood school that the kids can walk to and not ride a bus to another neighborhood. read more

My daughter started kindergarten the first year they opened she went there for kindergarten and first grade. It may look really really nice on the outside & the steam Academy program that they have is really awesome but other than that the education part of it is failing. The teachers are all newer teachers. The teacher as well as the principal Ms. Godina advised that my daughter repeat the first grade, keep in mind they kicked us out of the school because of our address the last 3 or 4 months of school, but I just continued to bring her there until the end of the year, we did decide she needed to repeat first grade or complete an SST program if she was going to be staying at Washington but clearly the address didn't allow. I signed her up for a different School in our district to start second grade. Meanwhile I applied for a charter school for first grade thinking that we mutually agreed on her repeating. She could not attend the charter school because she had to start 2nd grade unless the principal would sign a retention form. I called her and I cried and I told her I thought we mutually agreed that she would need to repeat and she said I do agree but I refuse to sign the retention form because if she was still going to Washington she would pass her through to 2nd grade. First of all she knew she wasn't going to be returning to Washington and why would you push her through but agree that she needs to repeat. This school only cares about its ratings. A friend of mine's daughter attends the school still and a few weeks ago one of the kids brought a knife to school and was not suspended or written up, the next day he got into a fight with a student. He is constantly bullying my friend's daughter and nothing has been done about it. I've heard a few parents are going to the school board and complaining. Not to mention it's downtown near Richards Boulevard and if anyone is from Sacramento you know that's where most of the homeless are. Last year there was a man that came on campus and no one was told about it, I had to hear about it from my child. read more

Failed once again, nice try... after school program is not licensed they are running a program taking care of kids in the business is not licensed, I was there in the morning time kids were outside playing by themselves and the gate was wide open for someone to grab them.
