She made an error on her phone of the hotel address and after making a U-Turn told me it was my fault it was wrong. She handed me her phone and I entered the hotel address myself and she proceeded to try to drop me first at the wrong hotel (only 1/2 off) and then at a corporate office building (only .1 of a mile off). However, the more important part being the fare came to 22.40, before he changed it to 27.40 before rudely outlining the fact I didn't need to tip him. When asked about the fare, it was the same attitude to the point where he became aggressive. Should be fired. read more

Washington flyer used to be okay, now it's horrible. I booked a ride 3-days in advance of my trip. Driver didn't show up as scheduled, and when I called to find out status, I was told I had no booking reserved! Luckily, we live close enough to Dulles Airport, so someone was dispatched within 30 minutes. On our return trip, I opted to give Flyer another chance, so I booked a taxi that was queued at the airport. It turns out the driver claims that a new pay system was installed in the taxi, but he admitted he didn't know how to use it for credit card payment?!?!? WHAT??? He asked if I could just pay cash...I wasn't prepared to pay cash, and wouldn't have even I could. Felt very much like I was being scammed. Eventually, we got payment worked out, but he had the audacity to ask for a tip on top of all of the hassle! Horrible experience all around this time, will NEVER use them again. read more

the Dull s driver didnt know the address nor had a iphone and asked me to give him directions all the way to Bethesda. He got lost and then Stopped on the shoulder at the highway to pull a tablet and input my address. And this service with a charge twice the Uber rate. Unacceptable! read more

Took a taxi from Dulles to our house the other night. The speed limit on route 28 going southbound is 55 miles an hour. See my attached photo of our driver doing 69 miles an hour! Little did our driver know, my husband is a police officer. So unprofessional! He got up to 74 MPH at one point! read more

Only a legitimate option when you're given a voucher from your airline after a canceled flight and you need a ride home. It's a $60 voucher that doesn't even cover the full cost back into DC from Dulles (and it should). These guys upcharge knowing you have that voucher and just are tired and want to go home. My friends and I were rebooked the next day on different flights. My flight now out of DCA...I called taxi company with my voucher to book taxi to DCA and was told "oh we only so Dulles." So why did United give me a voucher with their company name that specifically stated DCA? My friends who were rebooked out of Dulles, with another $60 voucher were told it would be an additional $45 for a taxi from DC to Dulles. They're up charging and scamming us everyone. United should stop using them as a service. Just get an Uber or Lyft and don't bother with this company. read more

Not bad, pleasantly surprised. We had an early morning flight and since Uber hasn't been reliable (drivers canceled on us multiple times in a row), we learned from our previous experience and pre-ordered a Washington Flyer taxi this time. It was a spacious family van rather than just a sedan. Worked like a charm. Driver arrived 15 minutes early, and was patient (we were of course only prepared to come downstairs at the designated time). Driver was parked across the street, that's a minus. Our address and instruction clearly indicated where to park. In any case, he was friendly and drove smoothly. We arrived at the airport on time. All good. read more

Driver loves to stip at yellow traffic lights. Yep, driver will slow down when a light turns to yellow even with plenty of time to cross traffic. Safety I can understand but purposely stopping at ayellow is time consuming and reduces a tip. Taxi 048, I will pass on next time read more

It is a cab service to and from the airport. Some cabs are super clean, some are janky. Roll the dice but you will get to the airport.

Dulles airport Washington flyer cab 484. Here are the high points. 1.) when we started the trip, the driver handed me his phone to enter the destination. 2.) Google was trying to route him around traffic to my hotel, he detoured away from directions twice to make the trip longer (and it was). 3.) I mentioned this to him and he got real snippy with me. I felt trapped. 4.) He couldn't get the iPAD console to work after the trip and when he did I paid the fair, never got a receipt. 5.) I asked for one and he wouldn't give it to me. 6.) I tried calling to complain at the number, went to voice mail, and the voicemail was full. These guys are terrible. Never use this service, Uber works much better. read more

Short story headline: The ran over my cat at IAD and refuse to pay vet bills. On 8/23/21, my fiance was putting his bags in the trunk because the driver was not helping and placed the cat carrier on the ground next to the taxi. The taxi behind my fiance pulled out of his spot, and in the process of continuing to drive, ran over the cat carrier which contained my cat. My fiance attempted to stop the Washington Flyer Taxi by tapping the car with his hands to get the drivers attention and he proceeded to leave the scene. There are tire marks on the cat carrier. We took the cat to the emergency vet. On 8/24/21, we called the owner of Washington Flyer who expressed DEEP remorse and sympathy that the situation never should have happened and he was going to figure out what happened and get back to us by the end of the week. The end of the week comes along, and no surprise, did not get in touch with us. So we called back again on 8/27 asking for the medical costs (we sent all medical bills, diagnosis, and vet report) and suddenly changed his tune that his driver was not responsible for running over the cat carrier, but it was the dispatch company for telling the driver to go. (last time I checked I didnt know a driver needed to be told to not hit personal belongings). We said that is not acceptable, your driver ultimately hit and ran over the carrier and as a result we have substantial medical bills. The driver was not paying close enough attention to the road in front of him. He then said he needed a few more days. So we again called on 8/30. He said he needed 3 days and would reach out. Today, 9/2 it has been three days and after multiple calls, he is "out of the office for the day." After finally getting in touch with the owner we were informed it is now being claimed on the drivers insurance, so we will see how it goes. But this process has been unnecessarily dragged out. A claim should have been filed the same day, not 10 days later. All in all, do not use this company - they are reckless. They ran over my cat carrier and honestly they are lucky he is not dead. read more

I just had an incredibly rude experience on the phone with a man representing this company. My boss has used this service for years and last week the taxi was a no-show at his home for his trip to Japan, causing a lot of stress for us both. I called the numbers I've always called to order a Dulles taxi in advance of my boss' trips, they're saved in my phone, and I spoke with someone who answered the phone saying they were Washington Flyer. I gave him all of the pick-up details as usual, but a couple of days later the taxi did not show up when it was supposed to. This has never happened before. I tried to explain what had happened to this young man who answered the phone today, Friday, October 20th around 1:12pm, but kept talking over me and would not listen, saying I must have called some random taxi service. I asked for the name of the owner or a manager whom I could speak to instead, but he would not tell me that or transfer me to anyone. He just kept talking over me. I asked for his name and he said he didn't have to give that to me. I also tried to explain that the phone number listed on several websites does not work, and I asked him what's the best number to call so this doesn't happen again? He started talking over me, making excuses, trying to blame me for calling the wrong number. He said you can't just start calling random companies and asking for that information. He really went on a tangent and kept talking and talking at me, so he didn't have to actually listen. It's rare to experience such a level of rudeness from any human being, much less from someone representing an established business, and one that my boss has used for many years for his international travel. I don't know what is wrong with this person or what he has going on in his personal and work life, but he's obviously very unhappy, and should not be working in customer service. I hung up on him because he kept talking over me nonstop telling me I was mistaken and must have called another taxi service, which I did not because as I said my boss has been using Washington Flyer for years. I tried to call back several times and kept being sent to a voicemail service but could not leave a message as it was not yet set up. He was obviously sending my call to voicemail. I am writing to receive an apology from Washington Flyer and to request that they take corrective action against this incredibly rude young man who is representing their company to customers in such a hostile, unprofessional, and unacceptable way. I used Washington Flyer taxi from Dulles out of the convenience of not having to wait for a ride and because they are professional and after a long flight I wanted my ride to be safe and seamless. The driver understood and plugged in my destination address and had me confirm it. Off to a good start you think? We arrive at my address and the driver doesn't let me know what the cab fare is and he rudely points to meter which I cannot really see from my vantage point. Rude behavior #1. He walks away as I try to use the credit card device for payment. He comes around and tells me sternly there is no power. Really, yes. Rude behavior #2. When I asked nicely to use a credit card again he said it wasn't working because there was no power. You would think he had a back up battery but no he doesn't. So I take out cash and ask for change and the taxi driver tells me he has no change, really, yes. Rude behavior #3. Funny how I can see he has cash while he opened his wallet. I have been using WFTS for decades with no problems. Today I called to reserve a pick up to Dulles and received a recorded message that they were experiencing 45 minute to one hour delays in answering. That was a deal breaker. I opened my Uber App and had a reservation immediately. WFTS apparently has a contract for exclusive service at Dulles. Monopolies breed poor service and low investment in infrastructure and service. After years of tolerating declining service from the Washington Flyer Taxi, I vow to NEVER EVER use them again based upon my most recent horrible experience. Look, I understand why companies like the Washington Flyer Taxi Service hate outfits like Uber/Lyft. Traditional taxi drivers have to submit to more rigorous screening procedures for criminal/credit/background checks - and on a more frequent basis. There are also more costs associated with licensure to not only operate in a particular jurisdiction, but also to work at the airport itself. And this is one of the reasons, I prefer traditional taxi companies. For the most part, when I have used companies in the past like Yellow or Fairfax Red Top Cab (and even Washington Flyer), my experiences have been good and the drivers professional and courteous. I scheduled Washington Flyer for a pick-up to Dulles and stated a few times, that there would be TWO passengers with two large suitcases and two backpacks. So when the driver showed up, did he arrive with a van, SUV, or station wagon to accommodate the passenger and luggage load? Uh, no. He showed up with a tiny Prius sedan! So one of the suitcases and the two backpacks were shoved into the shoebox sized trunk while the other suitcase was jammed into the front passenger seat length-wise. This meant, of course, the front passenger seat had to be pushed back (into my knees) so the suitcase could fit - all of which made for a "comfortable" 40 minute ride to the airport. The trip was non-eventful enough, but the problem arose when we arrived at the departure terminal. The driver didn't help us unload the bags and when it came time to pay the bill, he was quick to remind us, "fare doesn't include tip." Yeah buddy, I've taken a cab a few times, so I understand how taxi rides work. So when I just tipped him $5 (cash) on a $60 dollar fare (paid with credit card), he was visibly upset. He kept asking if I wanted to add additional tip on the credit card. No, if I wanted to add additional tip, I would've done it the first time. And I explicitly told him, "I don't want to add any more tip to my credit card." I've worked in the service industry in the past, so i realize how important tips are, but I also don't believe in handing them out willy-nilly. As the customer, I reserve the right to give gratuities as I deem appropriate. The driver gave me my receipt and then huffed and puffed off to his next fare. So imagine my shock, when I checked my credit card charges on-line a few days later to see that the driver had "adjusted" my ride to add another $4 in gratuity, which I had not authorized! I am currently disputing the charge with Washington Flyer and my credit card company. And while this dispute resolution process is taking inordinate amounts of my time, this matter is not about $4. This is about principle since if Washington Flyer "looks the other way" regarding their drivers adding unauthorized tips, then this speaks volumes about their business practices and ethics. So my advice to the Yelp community is to AVOID WASHINGTON FLYER!!! From now on, I'm only going to use Uber/Lyft when I need to fly in and out of Dulles. read more

Complete crapshoot on the cabbies. Some of them are friendly and efficient. Others seem annoyed to have a fare. On more than one occasion, my cabbie has griped about trips to Reston. Apparently, there's some sort of broken system. In pseudo-code, it looks something like... if roundtrip_time_minutes is less than 15 then return_to_shorter_cab_line else return_to_longer_cab_line Now, I've made the trip to and from IAD a gazillion times. Considering how frequently I travel, I think it's safe to say that making it roundtrip in fifteen minutes is unlikely (if not impossible) traveling within legal speeds. My husband had a reservation, with a confirmation number, 24 hours before the scheduled pickup for a business flight to the west coast. No one showed up at the designated pickup time. He called for support was told "on their way" -- fifteen minutes later still no ride. Called back again, and told they would send someone ... in 40 minutes! Very poor performance! Highly unreliable. Aweful! Disgusting! Those of you who take taxis often probably know about what I'm going to say already. For those of you who only take a taxi occasionally, here's my advice...if the cab roles up with the windows down and it's 33 degrees outside, go to the next one! Even if you're directed to the on with the windows down. I got in the cab at Dulles International and just wanted to get home after an 8.5 hour flight. Of course, the window was down, so I didn't immediately notice the stench inside the cab. When we got on the interstate, I had to roll up the window - it was 33 degrees! By the time my 20 minute ride was over, my head was spinning from the smell of smoke, B.O. and whatever the weird goo was smeared all over the back seat and door. My clothes stunk so bad my wife thought I had taken up smoking. 2 stars because the driver was nice enough and I got where I was going. Bad experience overall, though. read more

Not impressed! Asked driver to take us from Dulles Airport to the Westin in Reston. When I tried to direct the driver because he was confused on where to go, he got agitated and just ignored me. When we arrived at the hotel, the meter said $18.90 which is what the fare should have been from Dulles Airport to the Westin. I gave him $22 and told him to keep the change. But he then said it was $24.55. Um, where did the extra $5.65 come from. He never explained, didn't seem to speak much English and instead I gave him $28. I'm not sure why we were charged extra, but based on some of the reviews that I've read, it seems like I've been ripped off. This is why I use ride sharing, but since the hotel screwed us with their shuttle and we were far from the ride sharing pickup, we chose to take Washington Flyer Taxi, but never again. read more

At one point, my husband and I were going to ask him to let us out because he was swerving in the road & at one point slowed to a COMPLETE STOP on the highway because he said his GPS wasn't loading. Quick version: Almost was in a wreck due to a tree that had fallen in the road. I yelped, as one does skidding across the road. The driver threw the car in reverse, started screaming at me what a stupid girl I was, then when I tried to get out of the car how he was going to take the tree branches and beat me with them; he then said how he should kill me. Aaron, the supervisor said it was all due to a language barrier. 1) words aside, there's no excuse to throw the car in reverse and scream at me. 2) there was no language barrier when the driver at the start of the ride said he had been driving over 12hrs, was exhausted, and hated all the rules and regulations he has to follow read more

Consistent Service I travel cross-country roughly once a month (and have for the past 10+ years) and for 95% of those trips I've flown into Dulles...which means I've been in many Washington Flyer taxis. The service has always been consistently of high quality, but my most recent trip was really great so I wanted to give a shout-out to my driver Alula Gateachew (cab #283). I usually land around the beginning of rush hour and dread the 45 minute drive to my hotel. But we had a great conversation and it made the trip seem like 15 minutes. He was completely professional. So, kudos to Alula, and to Washington Flyer. I would still rather use them than an Uber or Lyft! read more

Horrible service. Got picked up at airport by cab 42. Half way through the ride, she tells me her system is not working and to pay her with cash. I told her I can only pay with card. She said, "ok you don't need ride, I take you back to airport". On the way back, she calls dispatcher/support and he insists that I give my cc number to her so she can charge me later. She said she doesn't know how to run it manually and that cc number has to be written on a paper, so they can charge it later. Great way to handle electronic personal information, I know!! 20 mins of bickering through this whole ordeal and I was super tired after a long day anyway...she drops me home, insists on a tip to be added to the order as well. No supervisor available to talk until tomorrow morning. Avoid them- no ethics, no customer service, no communication skills.
