This was a great stop on our day trip to Baltimore. The ground level is free and has some signage about the history of the monument. We also paid the $6 to walk to the top of the monument (over 200 steps), and enjoyed the unique experience and view! Overall I highly recommend if you're in the area.

What a beauty. I love statues and monuments. I love how this landmark is just not a beauty to look at, but I love how the city does events here. The fireworks over the monument is absolutely stunning. Check for events on the website and come check it out for yourself.

Beautiful scenery. It was a gorgeous day and everyone was outside in the park enjoying the sun. The buds on the trees are starting to bloom as well.

The first Washington Monument (over 50 years older than the one in DC) should be on everyone's to do list if you're in Baltimore. Located about a half mile North from the inner harbor, this part of the city (Mount Vernon) is beautiful and the square itself is a great spot for family photos. Beautiful architecture, cobble stone streets, a fountain and pretty urban landscaping surround the white marble monument to GW that stands at 178 feet 8 inches. It was $6 per adult, $4 for children to climb the 227 steps to the lookout level. My oldest son and I took our time going up and had a blast talking about the inside of the monument and our first president (he's a big fan). The views from up top in each direction are gorgeous. You can spend a good amount of time up top taking pictures and I would recommend giving yourself 20-40 mins to experience the entire monument. The Gallery area inside the bottom of the monument is free to check out and has a bust of George Washington, a bronze memorial centennial plaque and a bicentennial plaque. There are also some virtual tour touchscreens, plus camera feeds from the top. You can buy tickets online or walk in, but definitely include a stop to this over 200 year old monument to our first President!

I always say this is the first place I had a happy memory in Baltimore. I love this piece of the city so much. It's the best in the spring when the magnolia trees and cherry blossoms are in bloom. The fountain area has been under renovation since 2020 (there's pieces of the stairwell that are broken). It's right by the Walter's Museum and the Peabody library. This part of the city always makes me feel like I'm in a smaller NYC. Nearby is also the new Hotel Ulysses and Sugarvale - a cute cocktail spot. I've actually never been in the monument but will have to do that soon!

A quick easy stop that I made after visiting the George Peabody library. It was a nice view and had some pretty park space on either side of it. I wouldn't go out of my way for it but if you're in the area it's worth seeing.

This is one of my favorite areas in all of Baltimore city! The cobblestone streets, the gothic style church, the historic homes, and of course... the monument! I stopped by the annual monument lighting ceremony this year and was very happy I took the time to do so! Last year's ceremony was cancelled because of... well, you know, and this year's lighting was brought in with a bang (literally). The fireworks display was beautiful and was timed with a medley of holiday songs. While the view from the front of the monument was perfect and not overly crowded at all, I bet the view from a rooftop restaurant like Topside would be pretty spectacular - maybe next year! The lighting is celebrated by local businesses with many extending their hours into the night or offering great deals like all night happy hours. The lighting ceremony was set for 5pm-8pm but most of that time is filled with different performances. The lineup this year was really great from local artists and even the Morgan State choir. That said, if you're not prepared to sit around for 3 hours staring up at the sky, then I recommend arriving sometime between 7:30pm and 8pm. The stage area was very, very crowded so we stood off to the side. The lighting didn't actually occur until 8pm on the dot so I was glad we arrived later in the evening. Many people brought lawn chairs and their own refreshments because they knew they'd be waiting awhile. Pro tip: check out Mount Vernon Place by visiting the Walters Art Museum (it's free). The museum purchased the mansion a few years ago and created an addition which connects the main museum to the historic property. The inside is stunning and they've done a fairly good job at telling the story of the home and past residents.

Very beautiful historical landmark. You can drive around it and take a walk around the neighborhood. This neighborhood is super cute and has a lot of cool little eateries in restaurants and bars for all your entertainment needs. Very walkable. Love the historical architecture here.

It was such a cool experience walking up to the top of the Washington Monument in Baltimore. We had no idea that this was the first Washington Monument. It only cost $6 to have access to walk up the stair case. The 200 steps are tiring but worth it! We enjoyed the view of the city from all directions. This was a fun little excursion. The whole experience took less than 20 mins.

If you can walk up the narrow stairwell to get a view of the historic art in Baltimore. I walked up maybe one flight and became claustrophobic. Masks are required and food and drink are prohibited. Oh and the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable!

I first visited this monument when you could climb to the top and walk outside on the vertigo-inducing balcony. That was a thrilling experience all the more so because it would have been too easy to accidentally fall off. After a $7 million renovation completed in 2015, you can still climb to the top but you can't access the balcony anymore. Yes, visitor, you have to be protected from yourself. (You also have to be protected from the pandemic so put this on your list of places to visit once this national nightmare is over.)

    Kenya G.

Mount Vernon and the Washington monument are absolute must sees in Baltimore! It was such a thrilling experience to be able to walk up to the top of the monument. The views we're absolutely stunning and it was so cool you can see in every direction! Each direction of the monument had different statues and nice fountains in the different parks. Overall, make your way downtown! You wouldn't regret it.

I think the feel of the place is supposed to be spooky, unfortunately, I picked a spring break day to do it and there were enough teenagers running around here like savages (just kidding, they were all really sweet) it doesn't really have a scary feel to it at all. To explain the ruins, it was Roman Catholic school in Ilchester, Maryland. The ruins are near Ilchester and Bonnie Branch roads (so the Yelp location is pretty straight on). It was called hell house in the 70s after it was abandoned and vandalized and rumors have it a strange cult started living there. It also had an over zealous caretaker who had a gun and some dogs and would assault vandals. He was displaced after the school was set ablaze by arsonists. Hell House altar structure that most people take pictures of is at the top of a very steep hill, about a mile in. It used to have a large metal cross, and it is a very unique place for a photoshoot. For easy access, park in the lot for patapsco state park (right past the train tracks) where the trailhead is and start coming up to the left of the train tracks.

Fell's Point is located along the north shore of the Baltimore Harbor and just less than 10 miles from our hotel... we made our way here on MLK Day. Surprisingly, not all the businesses were closed on a holiday. We arrived around 10:30a and found parking. There are a few options for parking including metered parking and convenient lots and garages. We found an open spot on Thames Street. Fell's Point is beautiful as it was once a bustling shipbuilding port. We walked the snowy sidewalks and enjoyed the views of the wharf. Fell's Point is a historic waterfront and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Baltimore. It has served as the home to jazz singer Billie Holiday and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. I loved the cobblestone streets with many waterfront restaurants and bars and the local cute boutiques shops. We had brunch at Barcocina and did some window shopping at the cozy shops. We also shared a pastry purchased from Pitango Bakery Cafe located right there at the waterfront. Review #3664

Very easy to start conversation and harder to end it. I learned today that the meat is not what makes calzone but the dough that hosts the meat inside. The meet was good but the dough was memorable. Speaking about the dough - how about delicious sweet fried dough for $3 that is impossible to finish by one person - even if you are a true Italian. I was advised by two elderly Italian ladies, "take real sugar because the powder sugar is too messy, and have sugar on both sides." I am sorry that I did not try meatballs but I can testify that calzone and pizza were the first class and worth the trip. I am very tempted to repeat the experience on a similar event - August 19 and 20, 2017 - this time just a saint will be different (St Gabriel in August).
