My family really enjoys this park. We have the district park water park pass and have been to all five NoVa district water parks. This one is the closest to us that has not only water slides, splashers, and a kiddie pool, but also deep enough pools for adults and bigger kids to swim in. We also love great waves in Alexandria but the deepest pool is the wave pool and when you want a leisurely swim or float that isn't the place to be. The water slide height is shorter than great waves which my child loves since he's too short at great waves. I haven't had food there, but prices are fairly reasonable considering they don't allow outside food. You do have to pay for parking if you aren't a resident of NoVa. We usually arrive on the weekend at 11 when they open and it isn't too crowded--we stay a couple hours and usually they are at capacity at that point on a hot day but even then it doesn't feel crazy crowded. read more

A few months ago I met a friend here with her kids for a day at the pool. So first you have to pay for parking and it's a different fee if you're from out of county. Then once you park you have to pay to get in. Just a heads up. The pools are quite large and there is seating all around. Most people go to the shade first so it took some time to find a place to sit. There are slides and a separate pool for babies/toddlers. My 8 month old and I visited with my mother (the Baba) on a weekday in July. We spent about 3-4 hours here and had a blast! My son was free and the amount for an adult and a senior was around $13. We spent all of our time in the small kids area. I appreciate that it had a slightly complicated lock and door so not everybody came in. There is a sand play area with a separate entrance but we didn't spend any time there. The mini slide was so cute and I ride it with my son a few times. My biggest complaint is the sand at the bottom of the wading pool which leads to a very unclean feeling. I loved the little padding at the end of the slide- could this be implemented all over? Other complaint (only realized after visiting Upton Hill): not much shade. We visited on one of the hottest days of the year and found ourselves having difficulties getting chairs, and even positions in the pool, in the shade. This was in a weekday, I can only imagine the weekend! On a side note, you can totally bring food although they say you can't. We didn't but another family brought like a whole cookout and ate with no harassment. We, unfortunately, bought fries to share from the food stand and they were limp , cold, and over salted- just don't do it. The large pool looks great for slightly older kids. Love that they have life vests available. The showers are generally cold but I appreciated the soap dispensers. There is a changing table in the locker room. I'd say you don't need a locker on a weekday. We were always within eyesight of our stuff anyways. My son really like the water and is definitely return with him again! read more

We came on a Wednesday at 4pm and the park was not busy at all. I expected more people because the temp was about 100. But we didn't miss the crowd. This is a fun pool not a water park. The main area is perfect for small kids. I came with my 3 and 5 year old who are still learning to swim and the main pool was perfect. The max height is 3.5 feet and there are two slides (one smaller and one larger). It's a pretty large area. The park itself is pretty small. Upon arrival there are signs that no outside doors and beverages are allowed and that bags would be checked - but we were able to walk in and no one checks our bags. I did have a couple juice boxes and snacks for the kids. I find this policy a bit annoying because they sell a bunch of junk that little kids probably won't eat anyhow. ie pizza, burgers, etc. the sand pit area seemed bigger in photos, but it's pretty small. I imagine it'd be pretty cramped on the weekend. I had two free entries for the kids per the fairfax county summer reading program so I only needed to pay for myself - $8.75. There was a larger water slide but we didn't venture over there so I don't have any comments on that. read more

With the BEST sand pit with a water table in the center, a fenced off kiddie pool and a great shallow pool with a water playground at the center... We have been to a few of the water parks in the NOVA Parks system and this definitely is the best among the smaller and cheaper ones (a few cost about twice as much and are geared for the older crowds I assume). The smaller ones like this are perfect for families with small children who can't go on big water slides yet but want more excitement than a regular pool has to offer. The sand pit has a LOT of shade and tons of sand toys. We could have stayed there all day with my 1.5 and 3 year old girls. They were fully occupied playing by themselves. The water table in the middle really is the icing on the cake. It has running water and helps to get wet sand for sandcastles or just do sensory play. There are a bunch of little "table" surfaces to play on too. Yes the food is terrible, cheap, and unhealthy, and the lines are long. Just plan ahead and bring a cooler with your own snacks (lots of people were doing this) or order pizza. read more

I was at the pirate's cove waterpark with my kids yesterday and it closed at 6pm. I helped my daughter take shower and while I was dressing her a staff person came and started spraying disinfectant or sometime or cleaning product next to our legs. What a rude and evil person to spray some type of chemical on us while we were getting dressed to leave. I was very disappointed with this insensitive person's actions. If somebody is so inpatient for somebody to get dressed and leave but instead evil enough to do this type of thing on another person, they should maybe have another job that suits them. They shouldn't be around families and children! read more

What a cute, small-scale water park close to home! I came here with my 2 year old during a weekday around noon and although it was pretty packed, there are plenty of chairs where people leave their bags around. I didn't feel pressure to splurge for a locker. I think admission is $8 for 2+, but the gal behind the desk didn't charge for my son so I was fine with that. I like that this water park is geared more towards 6 and under; all the water is pretty much 4 feet and under so my little man was able to walk around without his swim vest (which they also have available for free). The slides and equipment can get pretty rowdy with a bunch of older kids and boys shoving and pushing, so if you have a little one you should try to shadow them as best as possible. The slides go fast. The lifeguards are pretty whistle-happy and overzealous but I'm glad they are doing their job. They also have a nice small kids park (with gate) for kids 5 and under to wade around and go down a smaller slide, which is where we spent most of our time. I got him a cheeseburger at the concession stand, which was fine and I didn't experience the wait or all the problems everyone else did. No one looks in your bag for food so I don't think food should be much of an issue regardless. Overall, the kids can be a bit rowdy here so if you have more than one child, you should keep that in mind, but we had a great time here for a reasonable rate. read more

I came with multiple children & had a minor emergency when one child ended face down in the shallow area, the staff all jumped to attention and had emergency services on scene ASAP. Did you know the fire station is just down the road? I didn't but I'm sure glad it was! The child was fine, just had gotten scared witless (first time swimming) & I'm just so glad (maybe even a little embarrassed) at all the attention given by the staff. Well it's a great water park but several times you go to the pool and the lifeguards are just now cleaning the pool after it opens. There is no sense of urgency as people have payed to swim. The causally trot around the pool dancing and joking with each other as people who paid money watch. Besides this issue the pool is very nice. read more

Entry was hassle free and efficient. We came in for a birthday party therefore we don't really know the pricing of this place. Environment was enjoyable and waterpark itself is very spacious. However, I would say that the staff does not keep the area clean at all, as I've been soiled diapers laying in the sun by the water which was making the whole area smell like urine. I went here on a Wednesday morning I got there when it opened and stayed through 1:30pm. I love the upkeep on the facility. A clean, well preserved, fun environment for the kids is always a treasure to find. The prices where low. Lounge chairs seemed ample but quickly fill up I suggest arriving early. The parking was ample. The kiddie pool was a big hit with the 1 year old. The big pool was a huge hit with everyone else. The food served was good but I wish they had a dedicated children's window. We stood in line for 20 minutes not for line length but because each child in front of us (5) wanted to buy something with the $2 they had brought with no math help from the staff that took a very long time nor did an extra staff member try to take adult orders for food. It seems like that could be streamlined somehow. I highly recommend this park. And they have a dog day in September before closing the pool annually. How fun. read more

We visited this water park over the weekend, it was great! We have a 2.5 year old and there's a smaller wading pool with a zero entry slide. There's also a sand pit and my daughter LOVED it. It's nice they provide life jackets for free if your child needs them. The water slides are fun and my husband enjoyed them. The yellow one is much faster. Note - If you want a nice chairs/lounges under an umbrella, get there when it opens. We got there about 45 mins after, and chairs were scarce. We found some together, but in the sun. Also, the concession stand (nachos, hot dogs, etc) was actually very reasonably priced. We got 2 hotdogs, nachos, fries and a bottle of water for like $14. It's hot, so bring water if you can. read more

Certainly would help if larger. $8.75 admission would be worth it however the #1 complaint is that as a paying adult customer you are still forced to exit the pool when the lifeguards take a break for 15 minutes. Completely absurd given the fact that the deep end is 4.5 FEET!! Now time to go check out some real parks that take care of their paying customers and allowing the use of the facilities that they pay for. read more

We had my daughter's four year old birthday party here and I was pretty unimpressed with the staff that answers the phones and takes reservations. They acted like I was a huge inconvenience each time I called...which was multiple times because only an authorized manager can take birthday reservations. The day of the party I was introduced to the person who would help us throughout the party. We arrived prior to our reservation of their party area and despite the fact it wasn't being used by anyone else at the time, they wouldn't let us put our towels and bags there until our reservation time. We had decided to serve food an hour into the party and the little guests got restless so we ordered "appetizers" of chicken fingers until the pizza arrived. They were pretty accommodating in that regard. Overall it was a good experience and the pool areas and sand pit are pretty great. read more

A summer staple to say the least. Kids always enjoy themselves and while it can get crowded with camp kids, it's only for a couple of hours before they vacate and the pool is yours. The main pool is very large and I believe you have more than enough room to swim. Get there early enough and you can ride the water slides a dozen times before lines form. Price is more than acceptable and we enjoy eating their food. Pro Tip: get food from the restaurant 10-15 mins prior to the first 'rest' whistle. When they blow the 'rest' whistle to have everyone out of the pool, the restaurant is jam packed! read more

Met with a good friend of mine with her kids so our kids can have a play date. Im usually very skeptical about water parks since I always picture them having dirty bathrooms and dirty pools and having a 1 and 3 year old I usually stay away from them. We went on a Friday and before going into the waterpark you have to pass through the bathrooms and it was CLEAN! There were open showers as well as 3 showers with a privacy curtain and benches and lockers. Since my kids love sand we spent some time in the sand pit. There were some rowdy kids, but I just kept on the other side. Theres a toddler pool that my kids loved with tiny fountains and a kid slide. We didnt spend too much time in the big waterslide since my kids were too little and I didnt want them to get trampled by the bigger kids, but the toddler areas are fenced in and theres several lifeuards on duty watching every part of the whole park which is awesome. Also while playing in the toddler pool a toddler threw up and they made everyone get out so they can clean and inspect it. Just shows you how clean they keep everything! Showers were COLD!!! My 7 and 4 year olds had a wonderful time at Pirate's Cove! My oldest really enjoyed the three stories tall waterslides. There was a stretch where she went down them at least 20 times in a row! My youngest loves buccaneer beach playing in the sand and with the water stations. She even buried herself in the sand. The food was good and reasonably priced. The lifeguards were very focused on their duties and more playing around like sometimes see at other pools. We felt very safe there. Will definitely come back again. read more

Great place for families. Definitely not a place for the college crowd. Relatively inexpensive. However it is is painfully slooooo to pay and enter. Plus you're standing in the sun waiting. When we got to the entrance there were four employees there. Three were standing around doing absolutely nothing while one was handling the admissions. No real big exciting rides. Separate 1foot deep kiddie pool with a small slide. Very clean water and area surrounding the pool. Plenty of large umbrellas and chairs. Lifeguards are everywhere and extremely attentive. Bring plenty of sun screen. Changing room/toilets with showers and small rental lockers for 75 cents. Room was clean. Another slooo process is the snack bar. It takes an eternity to order then another long wait for food to come out. There seems to be ample staff just very slow. Picnic table are available. You are not permitted to bring in your own food/water, but you can leave and re enter. Just get your hand stamped. There are only two picnic tables outside so you need a blanket or chairs for the kids to sit on or tailgate from your car. Obviously they are not making it comfortable for you to eat your own food. Our family visited Pirates Cove Water park in July 2017. We had a great time, lucky for us we visited on a Thursday when they tend to do fun family friendly activities. The staff was very friendly, we were having issues with the locker and the young lady was able to resolve the issue. There was a reasonable amount of chairs, area was spacious. What I love the most was the extra amount of life guards. They were very alert and mindful of the toddlers. My 2 year tried sneaking off the older kids slide and before I could grab him the life guards had a hold of him. Brought comfort and safety to a mother who had three kids to look after. The pool is a reasonable depth for children 3-10. Of course they have a side for the Pre teen/teens. They have a great closed in sand play area my girls loved. And for the babies and toddlers they have a pool that's closed in for their safety. Although my 2 year wanted to be with the older kids. Mainly for me I was able to keep an eye on my girls while chasing after my son. They have two big slides which have 2-3 life guards and they defiantly take everyone safety seriously. I'm telling you this brought comfort We brought meals which were okay. For the price and the portions they are great. They have pretty good meal options and snacks. My kids continue to ask when we plan to go back. read more

And then he gets to the door and they tell him he can't get in because it's at capacity, after I specifically mentioned that we want to pay for him as well. So now we inside and he can't get in!!! Perfect place for family fun. My daughter is almost 4 and Pirates Cove had everything we could ask for. Good prices, kiddie pools and slides, and digging for treasure. Not too crowded and not too overwhelming for little ones. The adult pool and slides are roped off so you don't have to worry too much about the big kids rough housing around the little kids.
