I'm really glad I got to spend an afternoon here hiking and relaxing! I was visiting for just a day, and this was the perfect spot to spend my time! There is a typical beach and play area for families, but also there are places to hike, places for solitude, places to go adventuring and more! A great view of the San Juan Islands on the horizon, seals playing in the water, and a beautiful green forest behind you gives a special kind of magic to this place. I hope this corner of the world continues to be preserved and taken care of because it really is a lovely spot! read more

Wow. If you have more than an hour to kill in Anacortes, get thee to this park and drive the loop. Good views, a few trails, what looked to be great camping, and some reasonable beachcombing. Well, it's Washington State beachcombing, so you might need a jackhammer. I'd consider this for a quick car-camping getaway if you are in the market for such an outing. read more

This place is so beautiful. We came out on a mostly sunny but chilly day. We parked at the entrance and walked the entire loop - totally gorgeous. A short walk will get you up to a cliffside where you can overlook the water and the San Juan Islands, and then down to a rocky beach with a little bit of sand. This is a great place to bring kids and dogs, for certain. The water was calm enough that there were dogs swimming. There's a main paved road, just wide enough for 1.5 cars with a few areas to pull over. There are lots of walkers, so don't feel weird. Everyone we encountered was super friendly. There are just enough off-road paths to make it a really fun mini-hike. Just a few yards off the road, and you'll feel like you're treasure-hunting. "Hey, here's a path; let's see where it goes!" Definitely bring your camera. There are tons of things to see and you will regret it otherwise! Worth the trip! read more

Fantastic place for a San Juan Island experience without the cost of the ferry! Beautiful trails, and the road is closed to vehicle traffic for the first two hours of the day, every day. Walked the loop with kids in a stroller and enjoyed the views. read more

I don't suggest staying overnight here. When there is a problem with your campsite, you get to speak to the parks director at the city of Anacortes. Suggestion: Ask him if you can record the call. We arrived on mothers day weekend and the bathrooms are closed with a sign stating "closed for the winter season". It's May 6, 2016. I called the City and the Parks director himself picks up the phone. Not a good sign. Absolutely condescending and rude. "Too bad" and "Oh well, live with it" coming from the mouth of a city manager talking to a customer? Not okay. He says the bathrooms are being remodeled. The entire campsite is pissed. We all paid $25 per night and made our reservation based on the proximity to the bathrooms and the nearest one is at the entrance to the park. Check out the maps, it's quite the distance. Beautiful park for a day trip, but don't give them your money. I'll be posting more pictures of this rundown campground. Stay tuned. read more

If you love raw nature, this is the place to visit. I live in this area and I love to spend my spare time here. It's a little bit of heaven-on-earth. There is a beach park for day use with picnic tables, a playground for the kids, a covered picnic shelter with grills. Bring water shoes, the beach is sand and pebbles. It has a boat launch and a good parking area. There is a loop road through the park for walking or driving. Beautiful forest with hiking trails. Gorgeous views of the water and San Juan Islands and a picnic area overlooking the water on a bluff. Lots of trees, ferns, and wildlife--deer, coyotes, birds, rabbits, squirrels. There's a campground which is best for smaller trailers, rv's and tents in the middle of the forest. A serene, beautiful natural refuge. read more

This park is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous viewpoints of the water and lots of trails that snake through a peaceful forest away from the cars and people on the main paved trail. We ducked off into the forest that sits in the center of the main trail and made our way through it and across the paved trail a little further up and ended up coming upon a pretty clearing/meadow of wildflowers with a beautiful view of the water. We sat there and ate our lunch and then continued on to see even better views of the water and eventually made our way to the highest viewpoint but we were halfway down to the water already so we walked down further and spent a lot of time watching the Porpoises surfacing and going back under the water. This trail is fun to drive or walk. If you drive, there are plenty of parking slots along the way to so you can get out and enjoy the views. There are also plenty of benches and picnic tables along the way--both through the forest and along the main trail. I definitely do not like going here when there are a lot of people, especially because I prefer to hear the sounds of nature and take pictures of birds. All the yelling and noise of people ruins that. I've never visited the boat launch area or beach there as it just doesn't appeal to me. The trails are where you will find the most beauty, tranquility, and the greatest views. read more

We walk the dog here every time we are in town. Amazing 2 mile loop on a point surrounded by the San Juan Islands. If you walk before 10am the road is closed to cars which is great for us walkers. read more

We live a block from Washington Park and walk there most days. We appreciate the fact that the park is well-maintained and remains a delightful natural place in spite of the heavy usage it gets. I have contacted the administrator more than once in connection with the boat ramp, questions about possible expansion, timetable on the rebuild to repair the storm damage and they have always been courteous and informative. Going there as often as we do, we are in a good position to note the upkeep. Efforts are made to keep the foliage encroaching on the loop in check. Trails are clear. Doggie bags and maps are always available and the bathroom facilities are very clean. read more

It is close to the ferry. We rode the ferry to Friday Harbor one day, drove across the border to Vancouver, BC. on another day. It is a beautiful place to camp. read more

Explore the best of Anacortes. Let start with Washington Park located on the western edge of Anacortes. Washington Park is a great place just to get away from the house and let the kids explore. Whatever your activity may be; camping, hiking, picnicking, BBQing, playing at the playground, or just chilling at the beach; Washington Park has an activity for everyone. My personal favorite is taking the kids to hike loop road before 10 am. This gets their day started with exercise and time for me to meditate and enjoy the beauty around me before the day gets into full swing. The loop road is a 2.3 mile long paved path shared by cars, jogger, bicyclist and walkers (closed to cars before 10 am). The loop winds around the park offering grand views of Burrow's Bay and the San Juan Islands. The park also offers more typical hiking trails for those who like to hike which lead to the same grand views. Sunset Beach, on the north shore is a perfect place to bring the kids for a picnic. It offers picnic shelters with barbeque pits, an open play area and a playground for the kids to run around and use all that energy they have stored from the day. If boating is your activity, Sunset Beach also offers a boat launch for those recreational boaters. The park also offers a year round campground, with 75 campsites and 45 offering water and electrical hookups. It also offers restrooms, showers and laundry services. We recently took our three kids (8, 6, and 4) to Washington Park in Anacortes for our first family camping trip. We stayed 2 nights in sight B7. The park itself is beautiful and very clean. There is a 2 mile loop trail that is paved with pull outs for cars so passengers can check out the amazing views of the San Juans and Fidalgo Island/Bay. Before 10 am, however, the paved trail is closed to cars and for pedestrians only. Our kids scootered this trail and we stopped at several points to look at tide pools, beaches, and vistas. We saw harbor porpoises, crabs, snails, bald eagles, deer, and hermit crabs all on that 2 mile loop. It's flat in places but mostly hills so could be a challenge for kids but not so long that they can't push through :) The campground was just OK. We picked a spot by a bathroom and found out that it's being remodeled. The other bathroom isn't that far, maybe a 3 minute walk between bathrooms? I hope they do a good job remodeling the bathroom bc the one that was open was pretty gross in my opinion. The showers got cold a couple times which is tricky bc they are on a pay- timer so prepare to either move showers or polar bear it! A nice feature of this campground is that the Anacortes police drove through a couple times a day and there was a camp attendant driving through every hour or so to check on reservations and deliver purchased firewood. You can pay for the reservation and firewood at a pay station near the boat launch at the front of the park and it takes credit cards which was handy. Hang onto your receipts for later. I'm only giving it a 4 for beauty of the park and ease of check in but the bathrooms being closed and having to use available honey buckets (which were a mess) put a damper. Also, many people at the campground have boats bc they leave from the park's boat launch to fish for the day. This means people are up at 4 am and hauling their boats to the launch shortly after. It's a bit loud for about an hour in the early am if the campground is crowded and you are on the road out to the launch. After the mass exodus of fisherpeople, it quiets down a lot. We will go again because of the scenery and because it's only an hour and 15 back to Seattle! read more

Park is set in breathtaking location close to many amenities and adorable Anacortes. The 2 mile loop is not to be missed. However, the camping situation needs to be tended to. Too many campers/tents and cars are allowed in each spot - we noted up to 10 people staying in a space - making for a very noisy and cramped campground. The facilities were not kept clean or well maintained, ran out of toilet paper every day. read more

As far as camping goes for this park, it is completely disorganized. They do not have an office to check-in at, so you arrive and need to get your bearings without being told where the bathrooms or showers are, etc. The signs said to check-in at the kiosk in the park. I did thinking I had to say I had showed up, it was actually just for someone getting a site the day of and I ended up being charged twice for the campsite. I called the park number and some kids answered and said there boss would refund me (still waiting on this part). They came by and got my info and tried to sell me $20 worth of firewood to call it even despite that we were only there for one night. The showers were in with the bathrooms and no windows so it steamed up and everything stayed wet inside, no hooks anywhere so I hung everything on the door handle so it wouldn't get wet on the floor. Running a campground isn't hard, I just need the basics, we camped at 5 other campsites on this trip and this one was the worst. read more
