Busy Park, no parking and I think the bicycle riders are rude! However, with that being said, it's a great place to go for a walk, people watch and exercise your pet...lots of pet lovers and outdoor enthusiasts at this park. There is a preferred direction for walkers and a separate place for bikers, the two do not mix and the bikers act like they are riding the Tour de France...slow down or go ride somewhere else would be my suggestion! read more

Wash Park has my heart. literally. I'm madly in love with this place and can list all the reasons why: -perfect place to walk your pooch, as every single dog in the area will be there. -on sunny days like yesterday, it makes for a great place to meet up with friends and walk around the lake :) -no shoes are needed :) met two of my favorite people and spent time barefoot in the grass. no shirts, no shoes, no problems :) -with volleyball nets, grills and a football, complete your day with a picnic. -more than half of the people struttin their stuff around the lake, had a cold beer in hand! Yes This PARK IS Freaking HUGE. Recent visit was on Saturday June 29th 2013. Parking can be a little tricky, though I cannot deny there are Parking Space allocated at this Park, you still can park your vehicle along the Park aka STREET PARKING. There are tons to people watch along the Park and the Lakes inside this Park. Be it for those who play volleyball, soccer, just to have BBQ with families and friends, people on their bikes to cycle along the park, roller blade or longboarding, and not forgetting lots of families brought along their kids to play at the playground... That afternoon while I was there, we opt to have the BBQ nearest to the Boathouse aka Smith Lake, The Big Garden and The Playground aka Picnic Area 2. You also can rent the Unique Cycles at the Wheel Fun Rentals in which we did. We opt to rent the "Surrey". Just make sure they provide helmets coz their policy if the kids were to ride this Unique Cycles, they need to have Adult supervision at all times and put on Helmets at all time while riding that "Unique Cycles". The portable porty, should be cleaned and somehow need to have more toilet rolls... but thankfully where we were at, it was near to the Washington Park Recreation Center. At least there is running water and washroom for the ladies at the Washington Park Recreation Center. All in all its an A-OK park to be at. @143/2013 read more

We had some time to kill on our trip and we really wanted to be outside, so we drove over to Washington park. This place is huge!! There was so much going on, and so much to do. We took a stroll around the lake, then sat and people watched for a while. There was tennis, basketball,volleyball, people on bikes, families with tents, etc. The park was very well kept and maintained. We loved our time! read more

I work here. No, Wash Park nor the city pays me, but this is where I spend a few hours a day while I walk, jog and train dogs. Even in bad weather, it's a pleasant time, except when the wind is really blowing. Sure there are loose dogs, lots of squirrels, bicycle racing maniacs in matching outfits, and the goose poop is a bit extreme. To me, that just part of the park-in-the-city experience....learning how to all use the park and respect each other. I've become accustomed to many of the faces that I see there regularly jogging by and they make me feel like I am part of a community. I know many people are used to seeing me as well, as I will either get comments directly or I will hear someone say, "she sure does get a lot of exercise! I see her all over the place always with a bunch of dogs!!!" In a time where I feel like a bit of a recluse, having these familiar, though not known faces makes me feel connected. It is my neighborhood park. I don't have to drive to get there and I sort of feel badly for the people who do. My neighbor will scream about the out of area license plates and wonder why they don't visit their own parks. It can become overly crowded. I imagine the people in Venice and Paris just want their neighborhood for one day without tourists wandering around. No offense meant. I have to sympathize, it is a great park and who would not want to be there? I remember days and nights there as a high school kid, yeah, I got grounded, a lot. I digress. A gripe - the bicycle dudes in their bike "uniforms" who get their fancy bikes off of their tricked-out cars to go around the park a million times traveling a 100 miles an hour scaring everyone, especially parents with little kids and everyone with dogs. My pup was almost a goner thanks to one of these ding-dongs who then yelled at me - no worries, I yelled back. At Wash Park, you can do it all. Run, jog, jog with a stroller (that freaks my dog out), walk, paddleboat, play volleyball, lie in the grass, sit on a bench, have a picnic, people-watch, or watch my dog try to eat a Canadian goose with determination worthy of an Olympic gold medal (true story; it was very Anchorman, with Baxter and the wheel of cheese -- "I'm not even mad, I'm impressed!" -- although I was embarrassed for a few minutes). It was Valentine's Day and there were a couple couples having picnics by the pond - but that didn't seem like the ideal spot to me? With the geese droppings.... Must still be romantic, though! Thank goodness for parks like Wash Park! During the off-peak times of the day, this is the best place to chill in this part of town. If you can dodge the almost crazed dog-police, you can enjoy a nice time with your pooch in the middle of the park, while your doggie gets to run free! I don't recommend breaking the law, but if you are going to break any law, letting your dog have a brief moment of freedom and bliss in the safest part of the park seems to be a reasonable one to me. Only thing, the city of Denver could take lead from other dog-friendly states and add more doggie-bag stations and trash cans through-out the park. This would definitely help with the dog-waste problem which seems always an issue... Tennis, rollerblading, b-ball, volleyball, afternoon picnics, whatever..you can do it here. All with a great view of the rockies! (And every now-and-again, a good view of the local firemen...never a bad sight.) :) read more

Washington Park is one of the largest inner city parks that I've ever been too. So much to do and see. run, walk, jog, bike and so much more. Plenty of open area to do sports, relax or people watch. This park is very big and there is plenty to do. Parking is a bit funky so your best bet is to park on the street. However there is a small parking lot located near the big pretty garden right off of Exposition. It is also located near the water area where you can pedal boats and the all kinds of pedal bikes and fun things to move around in at the park. Unfortunately, if you do choose to participate in these activities m, it will cost you a pretty penny. My wife, myself and our 5 yo decided to take the sing surrey out for a ride. It was $26 dollars for one hour. My daughter wanted to do the pedal boat but I just couldn't bring myself to pay $40 to cruise on a pond. The single surrey had a steering wheel and a brake gear along with using the power of pedaling. It was so much fun driving around in this thing, we were able to see all of the park. My daughter also enjoyed playing at the playground. There were many people there so it got crowded pretty quickly. We hope to return in order for my daughter to bring her scooter and go on the small little track for bikes, scooters, etc. I would also suggest bringing a blanket and a picnic. Being a Colorado native and having lived all over including the trendiest hoods, my viewpoint is slightly jaded, but Wash Park is much more "people's hype" than it is "Denver's best park" by look, size, and activities. Yes, their are nicer neighborhoods surrounding the park *not Cherry Hills nice* but upper middle-class nice therefore the energy here is exciting. However, past all the superficial exterior stuff that many out-of-stater's & new transplants get drunk on, there are better (not trendier) parks surrounding Denver: 1. Sloan's Lake - both mtn and city views from the expansive 3+mile lake park and lots of festival activities in the summer 2. Crown Hill - gorgeous mtn views, non-crowded, quiet setting, and beautiful large lake 3. Berkeley Lake - recently redone, on the smaller side, but is ideal being near Tennyson St I'm sure many prefer the look&feel of Wash Park based on demographics, but if you prefer stepping beyond cultural biases then get out of The Jones crowd and check out why Colorado's really spectacular: nature. read more

Who knew you could review parks? Not me! I don't really care for running, bicycling, jogging, or playing volley ball, but I do love this park. I come down in the evening/nights sometimes from downtown and do some fishing. It's the closest fishing spot I have to my place, and there's always something going on, even at 11PM. I've seen foxes, ducks, geese, snapping turles, pacu (the fish that looks like a piranha), bass, crappie, carp, catfish, saugeye, sunfish, and perch. My friend even caught a vibrator there once. It's a regular inner-city wildlife habitat. During the day, and especially on the weekends, the place can be a little much. read more

We are also so fortunate that we have parks such as City and Washington (Wash) with beautiful "lakes" (actually ponds), indoor athletic facilities, tennis courts etc. My husband and I enjoy walking around Wash Park (about 3 miles) several times a week. It's beautiful in the spring and summer with its exquisite gardens (thanks to our local parks department). It's just as beautiful in the winter with the frozen ponds. During the summer, we enjoy free concerts - just bring your food and wine (technically you're not allowed to bring in bottles) and relax on the grass. Wash Park's Boat House is one of the most photographed places in Denver. The ped/bike path around the park is wide enough for both however beware if you walk on the side designated for bikes - you might get taken out. read more

Denver's park equivalent to Central Park in New York City. So much to do here. Walking, biking, running, jogging, tennis courts, playground equipment, lake activities, bbq/charcoal grills, lots of picnic tables, a recreation center, gardens, two lakes, large open green space for football, volleyball, frisbee, soccer, rugby, bocce ball, cornhole, baseball, anything you can think of outside. I have seen bicycle riders getting tickets from the police for riding too fast. They can and will pull you over and give you a ticket. Dogs are all over the place, it is smart to keep your dog on a leash - it is the park law. I've heard fines are almost $100 and not worth it, just be smart about it and keep your eyes open for the police golf cart or just keep your dog on a leash. Many local and community dog owners get cranky about this. Alcohol is also ok to have, just make sure you do not have glass containers. Unless you want a fine for that too. I play on a volleyball league here in the summers and enjoy seeing the park covered with people on Thursday nights. read more

A total treat. Really well taken care of they have walkways and bikeways for everybody. It can get busy on weekends and parking can get a little tricky when there are events but mostly it's relatively easy to navigate. Everyone is very nice, including the park rangers who are kind about telling us to put the dog on a leash. They have multiple lakes to walk around. It's an awesome park. read more

I've frequented this park since attending South High School across the street and the beauty of this place never gets old! This is the only park where I feel safe enough in it to go for a late night run! It's well lit and in an ideal neighborhood so that you can feel safe and enjoy the sights! The moon over the lake at night is a beyond beautiful sight! Everything is so lush green, the park is well taken care of by staff and the lake is always pristine! The playground is awesome for the kids and they feature a great tire swing! There is paddle boats to rent and plenty of room for dogs to run and play! The walkways are designated for walkers on one side and things with wheels on the other side so you have like no chance of being run over which is great! 2 mile tack on the inside of the park 4 mile gravel track in the outskirts edge of the park, good for any type of runner! read more

I'm going to say it and people are going to hate it and frankly I don't care. Wash Park is so overrated. How could anyone ever say such a terrible thing? Do you want an itemized list? I live very, very close to the park and so I'm not just a weekender. The Good: - Fantastic landscaping and garden areas. - Great path for running. - During the winter months you can enjoy the park in nearly complete solitude. - If you play tennis, they have plenty of courts for that. The Bad: - Well let's start with the obvious, it is packed full of people. Way too many people! I don't go to the park to hang out with half of Denver. I am also not trolling for a hook up like a lot of the creeps hanging out in the park. - I also suppose that if I wanted or enjoyed playing volleyball then Wash Park would be more enticing. On the weekends 75% of the park is taken over with nets. Thanks for taking all the good, level lawn space not located beside the garbage bins. - Another reason that this place is overrated, the frat boy keg parties. This isn't Lodo, no matter how hard you fist pump and GTL it. - Though the park has great running paths, you'd best be ready to put up with creepy leers unless you run early in the morning. - Try driving around the park to leave your neighborhood with all the people trying to parallel park. We get it, you're terrible at it. The simple truth is that people come to this park to see and be seen. There are far better parks in Denver (Cheesman and City Park just off the top of my head) if you just want to enjoy some quiet time with friends or alone. For me, Wash Park (even if I do spend a lot of time running in the park) doesn't stack up. read more

This is by far my favorite park, and one of the things that convinced me Denver might be a cool place when I considered moving here from the Bay Area. The lakes remind me of Oakland's Lake Merritt and Novato's Olopali State Park lake. Anyway, what I love about Washington Park is that it's filled with people! People playing volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, frisbee ... funny looking echelons of speed skaters, cyclists, and runners galore! I love running around Wash Park, but it leads me to ponder the following paradox: If I run ten minute miles (as many folks do), run counterclockwise (as probably half the people do), and go on the same schedule ... doesn't that mean that the people most like myself are the ones I'll never see or meet? If we perfectly spaced out, running the same pace in the same direction at the same time, all we ever see is all the people who like to run the other way! But I digress.
