What an absolutely terrible company. My disabled/elderly veteran father moved to be closer to me for support. When cancelling service I was shocked at how terrible this place operates. We were passed around to different people until we landed on a very rude lady that proceeded to tell us he would not get his almost whole year worth of pre-payment back. This is contrary to their very own website. If this is true, I don't know how it is legal. Stop the missed pickups and Stop lying about it. And telling customers you are coming back to pick it up and don't . And then putting it in the computer saying you picked it up when you did not. And then telling me I have to wait two days to get it picked up , because you don't do same day pickups when I called to complain. I am being forced to cancel because the landlord is taking over the trash management and they want to charge me six months cancellation plus $375 removal of the container. That is just egregious for something that is completely out of my control. The person I talked to at Waste management was extremely rude. Argumentative and didn't offer any alternatives just kept stating that was your contract. I have been with this company for almost 10 years and this is how they treat me when I need to cancel the contract for something out of my control. read more

Absolutely one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. I have been asking for over a year to have our two dumpsters moved out of our customers parking spots. Every week I'm dealing with the same issue. Worst customer service, literally they do not care what you say. From the workers locking the dumpsters without putting the lock handle up (who does this???), and making it impossible for us to unlock the lock because the cable is stretched so far that it won't move! I received a $700 bill in March even though we are a seasonal business. Every year we stop service October thru March. And every spring they tell me I never called! They decided to start picking up our empty dumpster in the beginning of March and charging me for it. It took 10 phone calls (which means you need to block out a huge chunk of your day in order to talk to anyone) to have anything done about it. Then the guy that I spoke to said we were getting two new dumpsters. When that didn't happen, I emailed him and his response was that he no longer worked for them and couldn't help me. How convenient! Way Way too expensive as well. Time to get a new company. I've tried to be patient. I'm done. I'd leave zero stars if that was an option. read more

I was a business customer of Waste Management from October 2017 to May of this year. During this time, I was subjected to unethical, IMO, business practices which were neither reasonable nor practical for small businesses like mine. For instance, WM only offered me three (3) year contracts with rates that were only good for one (1) year. WM then placed the burden on me to object to the yearly increase (regardless of fuel prices, even when they went down during the Covid years) rather than seeking approval of increases from me before implementing increased rate changes. Then WM required me to renew my contract term just to lock in for another year which created a scenario where I could never get out of the contract with a lower rate if I objected. Effectively, the only way to "object" to the rate increase and get a lower rate was to extend the contract again with the increase virtually guaranteed within 12 months. In addition, WM would not make rate adjustments retroactive, meaning if it took time to negotiate a lower rate or if we went past the 30 day objection period (just one business cycle), we had to pay the higher rate in spite of our objection. To make matters worse, we were obligated to the three year contract ..... no exceptions, but WM only had to honor their confiscatory rates for 12 months AT MOST. Then, if those practices were not oppressive enough, WM assesses substantial financial penalties for a customer canceling, including, but not limited to, excessive fees for dumpster pickup when you have to provide service through the contract end anyway. Why couldn't WM just pick up the dumpster then? I finally had enough of this yearly charade and notified WM of my intention to cancel my contract with proper notice in December of 2024. Of course, WM wanted me to renew but would only give me a modest rate adjustment and the typical three year contract with me but with the 12 month rate lock on you. I told her I found WM's monthly service fees to be exceptionally high and indicated that I was certain I could get much better pricing elsewhere. WM asked me to provide her with pricing but then gave me their "rock bottom" rate for my service schedule shortly thereafter. This rate was still over double what I am now paying for the identical service with a competitor. In short, WM's rates are confiscatory and their business practices highly unethical. I told WM in December that 1) I rejected their increased rate and 2) that it was my intention to cancel with 45 days notice. WM advised me that in spite of my objection to the rate, that it would remain at your increased rate until I extended the contract and if I cancelled, I would pay a $350 dollar dumpster pickup fee on top of it. Further, WM advised me that my contract could not be cancelled without penalty until March 31st of 2025 (which requires me to pay 4 additional months of the increased fee in spite of my objection to the rate). I asked WM if there was any way of avoiding the $350 dumpster removal fee and WM indicated that I would have to pay the increased rate through April and WM would waive the fee. WM subsequently slipped in an email (which I didn't notice at the time) that it would be through May but that was only because WM kept moving the cancellation date back (presumably to collect the higher monthly rate). I had in my head based on our conversations that even though my contract ended in March and I had given proper notice of cancellation that I had to pay the higher rate through April to avoid the fee. We paid our final invoice bringing our balance to zero and the dumpster was picked up at the end of April or first days of May and we went with our new service at more than half the price. Then I received in the mail a delinquent invoice for the $350 dumpster removal fee plus a late fee on the amount though I never got a prior invoice and don't have access to WM's website because my account is closed. I STRONGLY object to this fee when I only paid the higher rate for additional time because of WM's promise that I could avoid the dumpster removal fee. THEN, just like my contract, she moved the date back and refused to reverse the charge when I called WM. I highly recommend you check other services and their fees before getting into a contract with Waste Management. You will be surprised just how high their costs are and then the contract provisions are totally outrageous. read more

i've been waiting for my garbage to be picked up from the curb since December 24. Tuesday is my pick up day, and most all neighbors of my black garbage have already been picked up. I called WM WASTE management on the 24th, the 26th, the 27th, and today, December 28 and they promised me someone was going to pick up my garbage. This is the worst thing the City Of DETROIT could've done to it citizens, it's taxpayers. Shame on your lying waste management company. If you say you're gonna do something, follow through with it. We have had WM for about 1 year and switching over to Priority. At least once a month my trash was skipped, for the most part when I spoke to them they sent someone the next day to pick up. I was frustrated because they always blamed it on me for them not being able to pick up and it was never my fault. Once it was not picked up because it weighed over 50lb and I offered to go out and wait for them to come back and weight every piece of trash to show it was not heavy where they couldn't move the bin. Another time they said it was not out on time, yes we placed it out the night before. A few times they stated it was not out and I was actually out and seen them pass on the Main Street but never pulled to our street. And yes at least once a month they blamed me for their mistake. On 3/7/23 it was the last straw, they were supposed to pick up and they didn't. When I chatted she said my bin was frozen to ground, I asked for the video since I know they are supposed to have a video of the pick up. She then changed the story to street not safe for driver, when confronting her why she changed her story magically the chat ended. Started a chat back l, the guy I chatted with says my streets is not safe and trash pickup will be the following week. Now not sure how safe they need the street to be 3/7 was way after the snow storm and what am I suppose to do with the extra trash! I didn't have more room in the bin and it can't weigh more than 50lb. That was all I needed, called and cancelled and got Priority who don't have a limit on their trash and according to my neighbors they are very reliable unlike WM. read more

They have not picked up my garbage cans and empty my garbage cans. I guess we just complain here there are no ppl answering the phone in detroit at all A waste management truck came on my bulk day and would not pick up my bulk my neighbor bulk or nothing. We have tables, regular extra trash and household materials wood and boxes and dry wall in bags. they put a pink note on the trash saying a truck with claws are needed. WHY it is primarily patio wicker furniture and boxes. LAZY LAZY LAZY. How is Detroit functioning. I have all of this trash bc I am leaving detroit forever, these are the laziest full of excuses ppl ever. YOU CANNOT GET BASIC SERVICE IN THE 48219 AREA. The are BEYOND BAD. Stay as far away from this company as you can. They changed me $132 for 3 months and now it has been 1 month and my trash still has not been picked up. I have called and called and they keep telling me the weather is bad. HELLO THIS IS MICHIGAN. Called and canceled my service. I say go with Community Dis. They are $48 for 3 months not $132 and they actually have been down my roads every week even in this bad weather. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT DEAL WITH WM.
