We picked a larger company because we figured it was more likely to not skip pickups. BIG MISTAKE. You can ONLY communicate with them by putting tickets in on their website, that they never respond to. Try finding their 800 number on the website? It's not listed. I had to google it. Then the missed pickups. You put your trash out on Thursday night for Friday, and Friday evening they tell you they were delayed. Then Saturday nothing, then Monday nothing. Then Tuesday they tell you Weds for sure. Then Weds night they say they're just going to give up and pick up 2 weeks worth on Friday. Wish I got a discount for it. Instead they just slip in price increases regularly. Every week it's a crapshoot if they actually bother picking them up. One day they actually said "We couldn't complete pickup because your bins were not on the curb." They'd been there for 4 freaking days. We cancelled and they keep forgetting to pickup our empty bins. I call them weekly and they're very sorry but it'll be another 2 weeks until the bins can be retrieved. Every time I call, another 2 weeks out. read more

Called to cancel services due to increasing to over $90 a month just for base services. Was on hold for 15 minutes before I finally got to speak with someone then they put me on hold for another 5 minutes and told me they dont do refunds and they charge ME $75 to pickup the totes. Waste management was really good before they automated all the trash and recycling pickup. I still appreciate them and what they do, but I don't like the lower quality service we get. 1. I don't like that recycling is only picked up every other week. This is annoying to remember and neighbors forget so totes just sit out all day. 2. The change in pickup rules is frustrating because before they would take so much more. Now they leave anything that doesn't fit in the tote. Absolutely terrible company! Don't sign up with them if you don't have to. They charge all sorts of "extra fees". They are unreliable. Their customer service is awful. And their monthly fee goes up higher every month. In one year my fee rose from $38 to $60. Find a different company!!! read more

I have had no problems with the drivers but their customer service is very poor to non existent. It is almost impossible to reach anyone. I have been on hold on the phone for over an hour. I tried their chat service on line. I was 9th in the que. After waiting for over 20 minutes, I got up to let my dogs out and was away from my computer less then 30 seconds. I came back to a message stating that since I did not respond that my session ended. I have been trying to contact them to let them know that I would not be renewing my contract after receiving a huge price increase. I am guessing they really dont care and it shows in their poor customer reviews. It really does frustrate me that I have to take this much time out of my day to end a service when I have been a customer that has always paid my bill on time. Corfu Batavia NY area. Signed up with WM a few months ago. Took them about 3 weeks to send my tote and recycle bin. The garbage tote is decent and service is ok. Two stars. Until you need a bulk pick up. So we made the appointment around Labor Day. They schedule 3 weeks out. The night before husband moves it to the curb the before the "scheduled pick up" well trash and the recycling gets picked and I see alert it will get picked up tomorrow. Day 2- no pick up. Ok Monday comes. Still sitting there. So now it's moved to Tuesday. Guess what? Not picked up. So I call customer service they escalate it and assured me pick up. Day 5 wanna guess? Still there!! So again I call WM customer service. I was told the driver said nothing was out there!! Unless you're profoundly blind, you cannot miss a couch sized chaise lounge. (See pic). So perhaps day 6 it will be picked up. The agent said they cannot call my local WM but they can deliver a message. If its out there by day 7, I will be out there to meet my trash collectors. I believe this is the 5th negative review I've written this year. But I guess WM doesn't believe in the squeaky wheel getting the grease. After failing 8 times to pick up my weekly trash since January they terminated my contract on July 7th "because of the snow (!!!) even though I'd paid for the year. So I guess contracts don't count with them either. The reason for this, hopefully final, review is that they are refusing to repay the $200 odd they owe me because they need 6-8 weeks to continue to collect interest on it and "process" it AFTER IT'S APPROVED . They've known about it since the beginning of the month, but apparently it's not been "approved" yet. With customer service like this, I can't imagine they're going to survive much longer. read more

Horrible service, they will not let you cancel, you're on hold for hours, forced to call again and again, chat no better, while on hold there's a detuned radio playing static and horns, no way to request a call back, no way to speak to anyone, if you don't respond in a way the automated system likes, it will cause a long delay and put you in a loop, until it finally hangs up on you. A couple times it sounded like someone answered and hung up. how do you have a rating of 1.5 and go on? We switched EVEN WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CANCEL and are so much happier with the service, equipment and price with the new place. Can't believe we supported this overpriced scam as long as we did. Waste Management had to be hands down the worst untrustworthy refuse collection company. Missed pick ups, impossible to reach customer service. Difficult to cancel. Avoid them as there are many refuse collection services that are responsive and st a much lower cost. read more

TL;DR if you have any choice whatsoever - STEER CLEAR. The usual trash pickup is ok. Everything else is horrible. Recycling? The absolute worst experience. They are messing up the schedule, changing the schedule, missing pickup, and missing pickup for the missed pickup. Customer service? As bad as it can get. Good luck finding a phone for customer service to begin with (it's +1 (800) 972-4545) by the way). Get to the phone? Be prepared to get through "an automated system" to actual human beings. The best shortcut I found: call the number, press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then 6 for "everything else," then say one word "representative," then wait. Didn't work? Every time the robot starts to speak, say "stop, representative" (or just "stop"). It should get you through quickly enough. The main thing - do not try to engage with this robot in any way - it is designed to stall, not help. The favorite phrase of customer service people? "I'm sorry. You will have to wait up to 48 business hours." Chat? The virtual assistant is absolutely useless. Humans are no better. Chat itself has no history, no ability to save the transcript, no notifications of any kind, it's impossible to scroll up, it blocks half of the site, and it disconnects randomly and deletes the whole previous conversation The website/app? useless for anything but paying bills (that's the only feature that always works). No communication whatsoever. No phone call, no email, no text message, no push notification, no in-app notification, no postcard, no mail, no driver stopping by, not even a pigeon with a scrap of paper. If they changed your service you are supposed to magically know about it on your own. If something changed - the same thing. I left a 5-star review a couple of years ago. Since then, the excellent people in charge of our trash and recycling are no longer on our route. With the new people, I am having to contact WM 2 out of 3 weeks because either the trash or the recycling has not been picked up. When I log on to my account, I am told either it WAS picked up or that the containers weren't out. Both statements are false. I will then have to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get their website complaint function to work, repeatedly having to put the same information in because their AI is not very I. Calling involves very long wait times. I had warned that I was going to leave a bad review, so here it is. And I also said that I was considering a different service. The final straw was when my recycling was not picked up after Christmas, and the site indicated my next pickup would be January 9th, 2 weeks away. I paid for my service a year in advance, and my contract is not up until May. But I am going with a different trash collector and will try to get a refund. My advice is: Stay away from WM! read more

Don't make the same mistake as I did signing up for Wm residential trash pick up. The first year was extremely expensive and they tried to raise my price significantly. There pickup was always a day late and there was often trash blowing on my yard from the neighbors late pick ups as well. After I had already found a better cheaper service I called to cancel and then they were trying to negotiate with me .. too late your service is horrible. Not only that but they had the nerve to charge a $75 trash and recycle bin pickup fee. They don't allow you to drop it off yourself for these cheap bins that cost $30 for something similar on Amazon. Do yourself a favor and don't even sign up, they are offering some sort of deal because they will definitely raise your rates and charge you an arm and a leg just to try cancel your service read more

One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with ! Four years ago I closed a small 2 car detail shop on the property. I informed them that the house was rented to a single retired lady and that the trash would not be more than 1 toter per week. The bill was to be $60. per month. I retired, Im 75. my son has been taking car of the paper work for me. He discovered that they have been charging over $300.00 per MONTH !!! I have checked all around the neighborhood and nobody is paying anything even close to that. Every body in the area is paying between $50-70. per month. I have no idea why they have been ripping me off..were going to court. They have just told me they would give me a $250 credit and lower the bill to $150 per month.
