Worst customer service, charging way too much. Zero consideration for customers who have been loyal. BYE!

Well first off I see a rating of 1.3 which is very telling! So for pickup and trash hauling I give the folks on the trucks a 4.5. But for customer service the lowest rating I can give is a 1. Zero would be more fitting. What in Gods name do you have to do to speak to a human being at Waste????? Ive tried everything! What HORRIBLE service to its paying customer base. Horrible service, they will not let you cancel, you're on hold for hours, forced to call again and again, chat no better, while on hold there's a detuned radio playing static and horns, no way to request a call back, no way to speak to anyone, if you don't respond in a way the automated system likes, it will cause a long delay and put you in a loop, until it finally hangs up on you. A couple times it sounded like someone answered and hung up. how do you have a rating of 1.5 and go on? We switched EVEN WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO CANCEL and are so much happier with the service, equipment and price with the new place. Can't believe we supported this overpriced scam as long as we did. I left a 5-star review a couple of years ago. Since then, the excellent people in charge of our trash and recycling are no longer on our route. With the new people, I am having to contact WM 2 out of 3 weeks because either the trash or the recycling has not been picked up. When I log on to my account, I am told either it WAS picked up or that the containers weren't out. Both statements are false. I will then have to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get their website complaint function to work, repeatedly having to put the same information in because their AI is not very I. Calling involves very long wait times. I had warned that I was going to leave a bad review, so here it is. And I also said that I was considering a different service. The final straw was when my recycling was not picked up after Christmas, and the site indicated my next pickup would be January 9th, 2 weeks away. I paid for my service a year in advance, and my contract is not up until May. But I am going with a different trash collector and will try to get a refund. My advice is: Stay away from WM! read more

Waste Management had to be hands down the worst untrustworthy refuse collection company. Missed pick ups, impossible to reach customer service. Difficult to cancel. Avoid them as there are many refuse collection services that are responsive and st a much lower cost. read more

TL;DR if you have any choice whatsoever - STEER CLEAR. The usual trash pickup is ok. Everything else is horrible. Recycling? The absolute worst experience. They are messing up the schedule, changing the schedule, missing pickup, and missing pickup for the missed pickup. Customer service? As bad as it can get. Good luck finding a phone for customer service to begin with (it's +1 (800) 972-4545) by the way). Get to the phone? Be prepared to get through "an automated system" to actual human beings. The best shortcut I found: call the number, press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish, then 6 for "everything else," then say one word "representative," then wait. Didn't work? Every time the robot starts to speak, say "stop, representative" (or just "stop"). It should get you through quickly enough. The main thing - do not try to engage with this robot in any way - it is designed to stall, not help. The favorite phrase of customer service people? "I'm sorry. You will have to wait up to 48 business hours." Chat? The virtual assistant is absolutely useless. Humans are no better. Chat itself has no history, no ability to save the transcript, no notifications of any kind, it's impossible to scroll up, it blocks half of the site, and it disconnects randomly and deletes the whole previous conversation The website/app? useless for anything but paying bills (that's the only feature that always works). No communication whatsoever. No phone call, no email, no text message, no push notification, no in-app notification, no postcard, no mail, no driver stopping by, not even a pigeon with a scrap of paper. If they changed your service you are supposed to magically know about it on your own. If something changed - the same thing. If they said something to you like "work order" you are supposed to know what all their lingo means read more

Don't make the same mistake as I did signing up for Wm residential trash pick up. The first year was extremely expensive and they tried to raise my price significantly. There pickup was always a day late and there was often trash blowing on my yard from the neighbors late pick ups as well. After I had already found a better cheaper service I called to cancel and then they were trying to negotiate with me .. too late your service is horrible. Not only that but they had the nerve to charge a $75 trash and recycle bin pickup fee. They don't allow you to drop it off yourself for these cheap bins that cost $30 for something similar on Amazon. Do yourself a favor and don't even sign up, they are offering some sort of deal because they will definitely raise your rates and charge you an arm and a leg just to try cancel your service read more

One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with ! Four years ago I closed a small 2 car detail shop on the property. I informed them that the house was rented to a single retired lady and that the trash would not be more than 1 toter per week. The bill was to be $60. per month. I retired, Im 75. my son has been taking car of the paper work for me. He discovered that they have been charging over $300.00 per MONTH !!! I have checked all around the neighborhood and nobody is paying anything even close to that. Every body in the area is paying between $50-70. per month. I have no idea why they have been ripping me off..were going to court. They have just told me they would give me a $250 credit and lower the bill to $150 per month. A dysfunctional back office and website. You can't speak to anyone. No one calls back even when you leave your phone number for a callback. Even when you leave a message on their site, no one responds. When you try to enter a new credit card, they won't allow it but are quick to tell you you're delinquent. They do pick up the trash reliably, but, don't try to communicate with them. read more

if I could give 0 stars I would for a million reasons. 1. outrageous increases every year 2. when they miss a pickup they offer to come back to get it for a $120 charge. 3. when I called to cancel it was never canceled & I was charged for another month. from there when I called they REFUSED to refund me the money on top of sending me a bill "anywhere from $80-$120 for a cancelation fee" & wouldn't transfer the payment from the month that was supposed to be CANCELLED as payment for their "fee". NEVER go through them, they are a SCAM & their online chat is useless, it will kick you off mid conversation & if you somehow get anyone on the phone they will keep transferring you. Absolutely horrible service! This company has gone downhill dramatically over the past few months. I can't get my garbage or recycling picked up on time. When I try calling I'm waiting on hold forever then I get nothing but ridiculous excuses why they are not doing their job. A couple weeks back I had 3 lousy extra garbage bags leaning on the bin and they had the nerve to move the bags, empty the garbage can and then proceeded to put the 3 extra bags in the garbage can and not pick them up. Watch the guy drive down my dead end street only to back out instead of doing their job. Called and had to wait 1 week for them to pickup recycling, only to have them not take my garage. We used to love WM for many years! Their service was always reliable and on time. When you called to schedule a bulk pickup, they arrived in a timely manner, and everything was collected. Now the company is AWFUL! We scheduled a bulk pick up only for the driver to refuse the pick up due to the nature of the components. When we spoke to the customer service representative to see if they would collect cut up shed pieces, the representative spoke with her manager to verify if they could do it. After being on hold for a bit, she returned to share that they can pick it up, and would schedule the service. It's been 3 weeks now dealing with issues with getting this service taken care of. The items are still sitting at my crub after we were told they would be back to collect the items due to the fact that they customer service representative shared they could pick it up. My husband and I spent a who day cutting the pieces into 4x4 sections because we were advised they could not be bigger than that size. We also bundled the piles per the customer services request. I want my items picked up, however it's impossible to get this company to do anything correct or in a timely fashion! If you need waste services, I would look elsewhere. You don't want to deal with all of the headaches that this company is causing its current customers due to lack of staff and care for their customers. read more

I am a Senior citizen living on a fixed income with my husband who has a lot of medical problems. I wanted to get the cost lowered. I usually get the senior discount and 10% for paying ahead of time. I may have to change this company, because I can not afford this. Each year I would call up and they would change the price, but this year I can not get a hold of a live human being. In Knoxville, Waste Management has always been good. The guys went the extra mile for customers, and always waved as they drove by. I moved, and it's a different story. It took 3 days and many hours to get through to them on the phone to set up service. And then I find out they offer no recycle service. Throwing recyclables in the garbage can makes it fill up in a hurry, but they insist not to overfill the can. Their website talks about their concern for the environment and recycling, but that's not the case here. They talk a good talk, but that's about all. read more

Yestserday after 5 attempts to reach a human and being on hold for 45 minutes a piece I tried to use the chat feature. I was met with rudeness and snark. Immediately I called and signed up with their competitor in the area. This morning I am trying to cancel my WM service and have been transferred to 4 different people in another 35 minute phone call. I left a scathing review on WM and WM called me to find out the issue. Multiple missed pickups was first issue. Most annoying issue - you can't ever contact them by phone and that's by design. Service was OK for a couple weeks after that first Complaint. My pick up day is Monday. Guess what I found that afternoon MY GARBAGE . Reason was alley way was blocked. So what!! After finding another service that was more than a hundred dollars a year cheaper, I cancelled my service. They informed me that it was a $75 charge to pick up the bins (The WM hub is a mile from my front door. $75 really?). Never been charged by any other refuse company when changing service companies. Then they said they would be by on the 3rd to pick up our bins. We brought them to the curb only to never have them picked up. Went on their website and found that the service was delayed by a day. No phone call or notification from them. There are cheaper options, without the ridiculous fees for cancelling their service, and an actual full size tote for your recycling instead of the little bin WM gives. WM is very inconsistent with pick up. WM also makes a mess 1/2 the time...leaving garbage, full garage bags and cardboard on the side of the road. I live in a multi-family home, so there are 2 garbage bins and 2 recycling bins. At least once a month, WM will only pick up one of each and/or leave one of either the garage or recycling untouched. At first, I ignored it, but then began to become a weekly to bi-weekly fiasco. I've called WM regarding the missed pickups and half the time someone would come out, but the other half I was stuck with either an already full garbage bin or recycling bin, leaving me to leave trash on the side of the bins come next pickup, which they don't pick up anyways. I DO NOT RECOMMEND WM. IF THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE OTHER. I now use MODERN and I've had nothing but a great experience. They pick up both garbage and recycling weekly. Horrible company. In February they missed 3 weeks of pickups. Last week they didn't pick up again. They tried to say the garbage wasn't in the bin they left the prior week, but like picking up the garbage, they also don't drop off new bins. WM, don't bother posting a reply to this review asking us to contact you. My husband is on the phone constantly with you and you do less than nothing to fix the problems. These reviews are deplorable, but you don't care. So don't waste (no pun intended) your time pretending like you want to help any of your customers. There is a law of sowing and reaping. worst company I've ever dealt with. Just reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Took four weeks of me calling and arguing with them to get them to come the first time and pick up the trash. Meanwhile I had prepaid for the service. now it's several weeks later and they only pick up the trash or the recycling. Never both. Going on three weeks where only one can has been emptied. I have called this company more than 20 times. It's always I'm so sorry. I'll take care of it. I'll get someone out there today and then another and nothing happens, and I have garbage all over my street having to keep it in my kitchen. And my invoice was incorrect. They were supposed to credit me back for the month were they did not pick up my trash and they didn't me for two recycling containers when I only have one and they don't even empty the one that I already paying for. As a current customer I waited for 1hr 20min just to talk to a rep and get no help or referral to help dispose of my broken TV. Recommended Best Buy or Salvation Army when it is broken.
