Our server Sasha was great! We had a wonderful meal (date night) and drinks. Interesting mocktails. The ambience outside was stunning.

I took my boyfriend here last night for his birthday. We were seated on the water which was very tranquil, and were promptly served by Britney, who was very friendly, happy & took great care of us making for an excellent experience. What a great spot - I hadn't realized that they were waterfront dining and I'm so glad we decided to check this place out. It's an utter shame how terrible Dane County is about making lake/water space accessible to the public (one thing Chicago does way better than Wisconisn, unfortunately), but Water Street Tavern totally gives me the waterfront dining fix. It's along the river, not the lake, which gives it a bit more of an intimate feel to it. Their outdoor space is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend checking it out. We came here for our monthly fish fry, never having been here before. We came around 5:30p on a Friday and were told no indoor tables until about 8pm. It was a tad chilly out but we opted for the immediate outdoor table. There is a fireplace out there, but it's more aesthetic than anything, it provided no heat our way but we were find with sweaters. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and super fun to chat with. I wish they had your basic cod on the fish fry menu - and I was surprised they didn't - but I opted for the walleye instead. It's one very large piece but it was pretty good! Crunhcier breading but not excessive. I enjoyed the house old fashioned. I wish they had supper club boozy ice cream dessert drinks, but they don't so I opted for a cocktail as dessert instead. My dining mates got the cheesecake and ate the whole thing. We left around 7:15pm and it was empty inside, not sure what happened there, but either way I'm glad we ended up outside and I will definitely be back here more often now that I've discovered this wonderful place! read more

Was so fun. And amazing. This is such a cute place. Can't wait to go back to the town. The server was spot on for recommending item. She was just like my flavor twin. So we went for 11:30. I got the maple blueberry gimlet cocktail and was it amazing. For lunch she recommended the brunch burger. I am not a sunny side up girl but this was so good. The flavor was so fresh and enjoyed it all. So there was 4 people and funny enough two ordered the burger and 2 got the scrambled du jour. we were all happy with the picks. We also got some art-o-mat tokens. To be honest this is the reason we came to town. And the restaurant was a happy surprise. I can't wait to try dinner. Thanks for a great meal. read more

When I think of tavern, I think of a bar with bar food. This is a nice little restaurant with a bar. It is very clean and tastefully decorated, including the bathrooms. We started off with a drink at the bar, then were seated quickly when requested. I ordered chicken cordon blue with Brussels sprouts and bacon and a side order of loaded mashed potatoes. The included side salad was fresh and crispy. The blue cheese dressing had no chunky cheese, which I prefer, but tasted ok. The chicken came in small medallions filled with cheese and wrapped in bacon with a crispy crust and creamy sauce, and tasted excellent. The Brussels sprouts were baked to perfect texture and the loaded mashed potatoes were delicious. My wife ordered the salmon and asparagus with a side of clam chowder with bread. The glaze on the salmon was too sweet to our taste, but the asparagus was very good. The chowder was great, thick and chunky and the bread was light and crispy. We finished by splitting a piece of carrot cake, which was a healthy serving and delicious. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The only issues were the overly sweet salmon, though some may like that, and the fact that we felt chilled due to the temperature and had to keep our coats on. There was a slight cool breeze blowing on us from the ceiling vents throughout the meal, and we were told that nothing could be done about it. read more

This is such a nice spot for brunch! The inside lighting and decor is flawless. Such a timeless feel. The portion sizes are great for the price. I wish the mimosa came in a flute instead of a glass but it was still good! Our server was new however she did a great job for her first day. I loved the biscuits and gravy the best! Three stars may be a little generous.. We have been here twice. Both times, with a reservation, we have been given the worst table. Sitting in a high traffic area by the restrooms. On our last visit someone destroyed the men's room and we had to smell it.. Then they sat a table right next to us when they could have easily spaced us apart. We had the same entrees both times. My wife's steak was underdone both times and my pork tenderloin was way over seasoned the second. On both visits I only drank water and in the second visit our server wouldn't bring me a larger glass as I requested. I was given two high ball glasses with very little ice in them. We may be back in the coming months but it won't be a priority read more

First time there. The bar was nice, service good and the drink tasty. The restaurant. The table for six was small, good for 4 people but not 6. There was not room for both your salad and the entree. The menu is limited and if you want fish, it only comes fried. That was an issue. The French fries were too salty to eat according to the people that got them. Service in the restaurant was good. Food arrived quickly. Overall not terrible, but we will go to other places for the fish fry in the future. read more

Food was excellent and the service was outstanding. We had steak, prime rib and chicken parm and each entree was made to perfection. Salads were also fresh and well made. Great cocktails, fries and service. The burgers were really good at first but they have been really thick and undercooked the last few times I have been there. If I could offer advice, I'd recommend they serve thinner burgers like Settle Down. Outside and inside seating is lovely ! read more

I've been to Water Street Tavern multiple times and it's always amazing! They have a beautiful outdoor patio that's right along the river. All of the food and drinks are delicious but my favorites are the Sunflower Salad, Tavern Burger and their french fries. The watermelon margarita is very tasty as well. The bartenders and servers are friendly and offer great service. The owners always check in with customers to ensure they are having a great experience too, which is great. Food is good. Drinks are good. Server was great, helpful, talked to us and even answered questions. When the red head walked by I told her it would be nice to have side salads. This snotty owner told me they have large salads I could purchase and not get dressing on it and take it home. I told her I wasn't interested in doing that, I wanted a smaller salad with dinner and she blew me off. Not interested in going back to be ignored by the OWNER!! I came back to this place because food was good, but I prefer speaking to an owner who's accepting of what the customers want to see on the menu. That's not how you run a business, even if you don't like a suggestion, you thank the person for their comment. This lady blatantly ignored me and waved it off. I miss the Nauti Norske. They were top notch!! And it appeared they had issues with the waiter chatting with us. Not very friendly! Doubtful they will get my money again! I'm only giving 3 stars because of my server and the food. Owner lacks common kindness! read more
