We came here before a Wisconsin badger game and made a reservation online the day before. When we walked in the hostess immediately greeted us and sat us down. We were asked if we wanted a booth or a table and we chose a table. I ordered the mimosa flight and the dragon fruit one was amazing. My fish tacos were good but they didn't have that much flavor and I ordered a side Cesar with it. My husband had a burger and he said it was very good. His fries were very good since I stole many of them. My kids ordered a chicken wrap and a breakfast dish and said they liked it and would order them again. We were in town from Michigan to visit our plant and meet coworkers. When I arrived, some of the group were sitting at a high top. I stopped a waitress to ask if I should go to the bar for a cocktail. She took our order. Super nice and efficient. Our table was ready and she brought the drinks to us there and cashed out our tab with her as someone else would be our server. Firecracker shrimp and delicious curds were our starters. I ordered ribeye medium rare. It was a bit thin, so more done than I would prefer. The green beans were excellent and the French onion soup was good. Lemon drop martinis were meh. This was my second visit to Buck & Honey's--my first time back in a couple of years. We stopped in Sunday afternoon around 3:45 p.m. on our way home and were seated quickly in a large booth. It was hot and humid outside, so we opted to sit indoors this time. The patio looked spacious with plenty of tables, but we weren't in the mood to be sweating buckets while trying to enjoy our meal. Inside was cool and comfortable, which made a big difference. Our server, Lexi, was friendly and attentive--great service all around. We shared the firecracker shrimp (also know as bang bang shrimp) and sassy curds. The shrimp had good flavor, but don't let the name fool you--it's not spicy at all. Still enjoyable, just not what you might expect if you're looking for heat. Personal preference, I'd like some heat. The cheese curds were spot on, made even better by the fact they come with both cheddar and white cheese. Perfectly crispy and satisfying. Overall, a solid visit. Great date night! We didn't know, but it was a local homecoming night, and it looks like this is THE place for dinner before the festivities. Groups and couples of high school kids dressed up filled up the place inside. We sat inside, but outdoors was very promising. I would've sat out if I hadn't been hiking all day and not wanting any more sun. We were seated on a high table by the bar. It was great, except that the little tray they leave out to place the food when they come out was right behind my seat - and also right behind another seat around the corner. When the girl sitting around the corner got up to go to the bathroom, she knocked the little tray back, hit my table, made me jump, then rudely went off without saying anything. She was rude, but the tray really was in the way for both of us and should have been placed better or folded up and put away when not in use. Other than that mishap, everything else at the place was very pleasant. Our server, Skyler, was very nice and helpful and completely on point. He could have come by to check on our drinks, but it was a busy night, so I don't really blame him. We could have used another glass of beer but he didn't return until too late, so we decided not to get more. Food: Wagyu burger This was overpriced. I didn't feel like there was anything special about the "wagyu". It felt like a regular burger. And it was under seasoned for my taste. It was a solid burger, just not worth $25. Firecracker shrimp Pizza Quite good. Just a note - it was good for me, not so much for the hubby. Their creamy sriracha sauce is on the sweet side rather than the spicy. The cheese was a little overdone - it was crusty rather than oozy. This pizza is good cold as leftovers too. On that note, the firecracker shrimp would be better ordered in its appetizer form rather than the pizza version. There was live music playing outdoors. Great place for a nice date. Outdoor seating available. We met up with some friends as this particular restaurant between our towns where we lived. We had visited a different location for a private event previously (Monona) but it was catered foods and very good. We entered via the outside seating, walked past a bar and were seated at the back part of the restaurant. It was a cozy seating area. Our friends order a Korean bbq rib strips. It came with strips of meat hanging from a holder that had condiments of chicken different sauces which they enjoyed very much. My husband and I both had the fire cracker shrimp off the appetizer menu. We wanted something light and d this dish was perfect for Is. Just the right amount of heat with light batter. I would order this dish again. On a return visit my husband ordered the pork belly street tacos. He said they were good. We were visiting with another couple once again and not paying attention to our food, otherwise I would have snagged a bite of one of his tacos to get an opinion. I had the beef stroganoff, Which is just what I needed on a dreary December afternoon. It was served with wide noodles and a dallop of sour cream on top with plenty of cubed beef. A roll and butter was served on the side. I ate about 1/3 and 1/2 my roll so had a nice replay for dinner. I enjoyed this comfy dish. We have yet to have room for dessert but someday I will come back for just dessert, or what I have done in the past, order dessert to eat while waiting for my entre or just order a dessert to take home. read more

Disappointed - my family and I have been coming to Buck and honey's for many years as it is centrally located in Wisconsin and a great place for us to meet. The service is always great, the staff is friendly and it's a good meeting space for a larger group. I ordered from the brunch menu for the first time and was disappointed in my entrée. I ordered quiche, which was a very small piece, accompanied by three pieces of fruit and a very small amount of hashbrowns. I was surprised because I have never experienced this before. I live in the Twin Cities and when I travel to Madison to visit my sister, this place is always one of my stops. I salivate over their bang bang shrimp app. To this day, I still haven't found any bang bang shrimp as good. I can handle heat, so I wouldn't call these spicy, but if you are sensitive to heat, you may think these are spicy. You can't go wrong with an order paired with their cheese curds. Their homemade ranch is amazing. I tried the hot comby sandwich. That's a massive sandwich with a lot of meat. I split that with my friend and couldn't even finish my half. This was the first time we were able to sit outside. Their patio is huge and has nice patio sets with sturdy/huge umbrellas. Over the years, I've had a few waiters here, but the memorable ones are Jason and Bear. Both guys are super attentive and friendly. My wife and I stopped by here for lunch along with our in laws on a Tuesday afternoon. One of our party is in a wheelchair and the hostess seated us in a convenient table to accommodate the wheelchair. Our server, TC come over and explained the lunch specials, explained certain items on the menu and took our orders right after serving our water as all our beverages. The food was delivered by a kitchen runner and handed out the plates to the proper parties and we dove in to eat. Bout three minutes later, TC came back to be sure all items were tasting good and we continued to eat the great lunch items and three of the four parties ate all their food and a box was provided for take me of the fourth. The Thai Chicken Bowl was a bit heavy with the sauce which drowned all the other parts and it was too salty for my taste. Strangely "shredded" carrots but the ingredients were fresh. They started here and have added two more. It is an interesting place. You can bring the kids for food they like, but then get real food and beverages for yourself. Very nice interior but you don't have to worry about your kids because it is nice, not snooty. But it is a decent nice, but casual enough date place. Not too much, not too little, just right I also appreciate their beer, wine, and mixed drink selections. Their inexpensive wines are good and their expensive are quite nice. They also offer either a six or nine ounce pour of many of their wines at nice prices. If beer is your tipple, good WI micro selection. Again, not huge variety, but a good variety. read more

We arrived with no expectations and loved every moment. The outdoor seating is plentiful and comfortable and we were seated promptly. Live music (Corey Matthews) was strumming nearby and several couples were enjoying date night around the firepit. My brother and I sat near the stage, ordered drinks and took it all in. Service was friendly, if perhaps a step slow, but the place was hopping and we weren't in a hurry. My brother ordered shrimp tacos and I ordered a mushroom filet mignon dish with a side of dipper-fries, and everything was delicious. I have been to the newer Monona location and finally made it to a sit-down visit at the Sun Prairie location. The space is huge (both inside and outside), and they have a large outdoor space that has a variety of table types and sizes. Our plan had been to sit outside with some thicker clothing on, but alas, it started to rain and there is only one or two tables under any kind of awning. We elected to just sit in side. Tables were decently spaced from one another, but it did get busier as the night went on. Similar to the other location, staff and service are perfectly capable and meet your expectations. Nothing that gives you a huge "wow" factor but good enough to get you your food/drinks and be attentive. A bit of a disappointment with the drink menu. Apparently none of their tap beer was available due to some kind of service issue. They did say someone was coming to fix it, but I'm not sure how quickly this was actually going to be fixed, as they were out of practically all of their bottled beer as well due to the lack of tap beer... what a total bummer. We all went with wine instead, and they were out of one of the Rieslings that someone in my party ordered. I absolutely love their scallops and berries salad, and once again couldn't resist ordering it. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and I could've eaten another four of them instead of the salad! Could've used a bit more goat cheese, but I completely cleaned my plate so can't complain too much! We've been to each of the different Buck and Honey locations a number of times, and have consistently had a good, although not overly exceptional, experience. If you are looking for a fancier ambiance for date night, I would recommend their Monona location over Sun Prairie. Their food is good, and I have yet to have bad service. Their fire cracker shrimp is one of my favorites. I learned this evening there are items they offer that appear not to be listed on the menu, like the Mac-and-cheese pizza and a specific salad. It didn't appear these were specials, but instead off-menu items available for order. While you will very likely have a positive experience overall, it is important to know even the lower price point menu items are approximately $20. Make sure to check out their week night specials. This is for the Waunakee WI LOCATION. NOT Monona I just left Waunakee - Buck and Honeys - which is their newest location. It's not even listed on YELP yet I had the worst dinner experience EVER! Was alone and sitting at the bar with a few people at the bar. the bartender suggested the Thai bowl. It was extremely DRY and I had to cut up the huge chunks of individual ingredients. I asked for extra sauce and the bartender twice forgot to bring the sauce back. It was only 4:30 pm and the place wasn't busy. I've noticed most people don't frequent there. This was after my MD appointment. Never got extra sauce. Then I refused the meal and asked to order a replacement dinner. One bite and I was done with the Thai bowl. Horrible and he said it was a popular bowl. I then ordered the meatloaf which I thought was safe bet. The garlic potatoes was runny and also had way TOO much garlic. I asked the bartender who was horrible in service for me " if the cook was new?" His response with his back turned to me - said " he's been here for years". The place has only been open for 1-2 years with a lack of customers. Lied. I quickly packed up my second dinner " to go " and paid the full price of the meal ( which most managers would give a discount for horrible service and 2 meals) I gave more in the tip than I should have. I eat out often and this is the WORST dinner experience I ever had. Do NOT EAT AT THE WAUNAKEE WI LOCATION. I never refuse an ordered meal. I will NEVER go there again. Dinner and drinks went well. The food was tasty, instead of fried walleye they made for me baked or grilled walleye, with a side of broccolini and asparagus. I also tried Chipotle Chicken Pasta, it was delicious. We began by ordering margarita & asking for sugar rims. Mine arrived with a salt rim. This is not good for me. My main course was the walleye, I appreciate that they were able to grill or bake the walleye. Some seasoning would be nice. A dash of chipotle, or even salt and pepper but I did not ask prior. The broccolini was my absolute favorite I can order two servings of that. I would order the Chipotle Chicken Pasta the flavors were nice and although it is in a sauce it was not overwhelming. First of all, the food was mediocre at best. We had items off the Sunday brunch menu and they were not hot, or well presented. The hash browns were greasy and the bacon cold and cut way too thick. The service was poor. Our waiter did not present options available on menu selections. We had to ask for coffee and water refills, as he came back very few times to ask if we needed anything. Not very attentive. Would have understood more if he would have been busy, but the restaurant in general was not busy. Nor did he listen well. When it came to the bills, he somehow managed to mix them up even though we told him just a few minutes before how to separate them. Ambiance...the temperature needed to be adjusted. This review is for catering. Buck and Honey was very easy to work with and executed 100% of what they committed to for our Wedding day. Everyone we worked with; Aimee, Mera, and Andrew, were kind and professional. For example, we asked for the food signs to call out allergens for the certain foods to accommodate our guests with allergies and B&H were more than willing to help and made signs. They had a great selection of food options and were reasonable priced compared to the other 4 caterers we got quotes from. We got bacon wrapped dates and chicken fingers for appetizers, loved by all wedding guests. For our meal we had 3 proteins; salmon, beef, and stuffed chicken and people loved that there was enough food so they could try 1 of everything. For sides we got mac and cheese, broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes, which were the best garlic mashed I have ever had. This catering team is extremely organized as they manage communications in a system and updated contracts immediately which led to perfect execution on the day of the event. For example, our main contact went on maternity leave and it was no problem at all as the other team members easy saw the notes and made sure everything went as planned. All the staff at our reception were very kind and even made sure that my husband and I got to have appetizers and every flavor of wedding cake. I am truly appreciative to B&H as everything went seem less and I was able to enjoy my wedding day fully due to their quality catering service.
