I thought it would be awkward and I'd be the oldest or least experienced person in the class but not even close. Everyone is welcomed here. The courses were casual and comfortable and taught me basic skills to get me independently out on the water. And the CSC staff were knowledgeable, friendly, kind, patient, and supportive throughout my experience. And once you've learned how to sail, if you don't have a boat or a place to put one... the rentals and reasonably priced season pass practically guarantee you (and any friends or family you might want to bring along) at least a couple hours a day out on a sailboat (or a kayak or paddleboard if there's no wind lol) for the whole summer. It's hard to beat sailing on beautiful Lake Champlain on a sunny and breezy summer day!! If you've ever wanted to sail but couldn't or were hesitant... it's not too late and this is a great place to do it!

None of us had ever been sailing before, and Gideon made the whole experience welcoming, fun, and genuinely memorable. What stood out most was his patience with our three kids (ages 9, 11, and 13). He didn't just let them watch -- he showed them how to untie and coil the ropes, raise the sail, and take turns at the wheel. Watching them work together, encourage each other, and take real ownership of "helping sail the boat" was such a highlight of the day. As parents, we couldn't have asked for a better first sailing experience. Gideon's knowledge, hospitality, and attention to detail made us feel completely at ease on the water, and the views of Lake Champlain were beautiful. I've been camping in the area for almost 10 years now and this was my first time hearing about this…read moreplace- not sure how long they've been around. A group of six of us went out this weekend and had an incredible time. The friendly and professional owner (and his adorable pup) were very detailed in mapping out which canals to take and where to go when others had dried up, he'd even given us a laminated map to take with us. We showed up around noon or so and with filling out the waivers and paying, he had us on the water in less than 15 minutes! The scenery of the Ausable River, the bridges, and the exposed fallen trees were an outstanding preview to the breathtaking Lake Champlain and mountain views. The map led us to the sandy beaches near the local campground, plenty of space on the coast to feel like you have your own beach! Would definitely recommend doing the 4 hour trip as it gives you ample time to enjoy the beaches without needing to rush back. Highly recommend and can't wait to return.
