    Rosie-Roo enjoying her freedom

I had the day off, and had to run an errand on Pitman Street, so my wife encouraged me to take our dog, Rosie-Roo, and check out the nearby dog park. We'd tried to visit it previously, but had trouble finding it. Here's how I got there today: From Pitman Street, take Butler Avenue, and when you see Whole Foods Market on your left, take a right on Waterman Street (it's a one-way street). The park will be on your left, before the road forks (do NOT take the left fork, because that will put you on the Henderson Bridge; if you drive by the park, take the right fork, then go right at the rotary, which brings you back to Pitman Street). There is some on-street parking; just be careful, as cars on their way to the bridge tend to speed. I had no trouble parking, probably because it was raining steadily this afternoon, and the park was empty. I imagine parking on Waterman Street would be scarce on days with pleasant weather, so you may have to drive into the rotary at Richmond Square and take a left to park along East River Street. The entrance to the park is easy to miss; look for some chain-link fencing amid a wooded area. It looked deceptively small from the entrance, but once my dog and I got inside and walked around, we realized it was much bigger, and dog heaven. The park is basically shaped like a big oval, and is completely fenced, so no worries about your dog escaping. It's in a wooded area, with marked trails, and islands, delineated by logs and branches used as borders. There is an open area, with benches, about a third of the way in. If you continue down a trail, it will take you to an even larger open area at the back of the park, where you can see traffic getting on and off the Henderson Bridge. Due to the rain, there was only one other dog, who was approximately Rosie's size and age, who left shortly after we arrived, so Rosie and I had the whole park to ourselves during most of our visit. She was in her element and happy running the trails; going off-trail to sniff and explore; and chasing the ball I threw in the large open area, which has a slight slope. There is no grass at the park (playing dogs would tear up grass anyhow). Instead, the areas are surfaced with mulch or wood chips, which kept the mud down somewhat, while giving my dog traction to run and change direction suddenly. Still, I was very glad I had put an old sheet across the cloth bench seat of my truck, as Roo was a very dirty girl after our excursion (thankfully, she's a brown dog). There are dog poop bag dispensers, but trash cans are at the front entrance only, not in the park itself. I saw several water bowls dispersed throughout the park, as well as random balls and frisbees. There was a water spigot at the entrance, but it was turned off, probably since the recent sub-freezing weather, so I would recommend bringing water with you. Even though it was cold, rainy and empty today at the Waterman Street Dog Park, Rosie-Roo still had a good workout, and is napping soundly on our couch as I write this.

Honestly cannot ask for a better dog park! It has poop bags by the door. Double lock gates. Even has an area for smaller or shyer dogs that prefer individual time. This park is on an incline but at the end of it is flat. Plenty of water bowls. By the highway so easy access and not sketchy. Very well maintained with lots of logs for jumping over or for humans to sit on. Trash cans. People here are nice and respectful and are the dogs. This park and bell st dog park are my two favorites!

I came with my friend and her family to this dog park after a nice morning treat at PVDonuts. Since it was pretty early in the morning (about 8:45-ish), there weren't very many dogs there. My friend's dog did get to meet 3, though! All were friendly. There is a trail-like area that later opens up to a larger empty space. The entire park is enclosed with chain link fencing so there's no chance of escape. There are also tons of tennis balls and sticks up for grabs so if you forget a toy, no problem! The only downside to this dog park is the close vicinity to the roads/highway. There are cars zooming by all the time so be careful.

Beautiful trails to walk through to get to the large play area

Great dog park. Plenty of space and room to run. Great wooded feel and there is also a smaller area for tiny four legged friends

The park is split by a road that goes between the River Road and Butler Ave (Irving Ave can get you there heading towards the river). It is set off and not easy to find if you don't know about it. One half has wide easy to walk on paths that loop and can give some sense of being bigger than it's foot print. The other half is more challenging due to it still wild nature, the trails are footpaths that can be difficult due to rocks slopes and leaf litter, but still a great easy way to get some steps in with a little added cardio. You have to cross Irving Ave to enter the other side. Speaking of Cardio, there are dirt and log "steps" that bring you down to the water. Dogs are welcome but should be on a leash this is NOT A DOG PARK. I say this because I have had unleashed dogs lunge for me only to be reprimanded by said dogs ignorant owner for complaining in the dog park, sheesh. Please go, bring you doggie poo bags in and bring them back out! The park usually has bags at the sign as you enter the trails.

Not only do you get the quietness of a forest but also a great view of the Seekonk River. Very little road traffic , and if you like kayaking, there is a launching place into the river near here. There is also the start of the Blackstone walking path which is on Blackstone Blvd. All these places are dog friendly!

If I had written this post prior to this weekend I would be giving all 5 stars. Unfortunately,…read moreirresponsible people and more specifically, their dogs, have let me to drop a star. Lets start with the park itself. If you're looking for it via your GPS it's smarter to do Pond Street North in Seekonk, as the park is right on the line. Once you get close you'll start to see signs for the dog park. It's right across the street from the Animal Shelter which (if you read the story below) is a good thing. The park has a large dog side and a small dog side. My dog is just over 30lbs and loves to play with big dogs, so we are often found on that side. Most time, the small dog side not occupied. There are water bowls and free water, as well as poop bags and trash bins. There are also a few benches, which on hot days, the dogs will dig under and lay. The land itself has grassy spots and also bark mulch/sticks in some areas, which turn into chew toys for some. All in all, it is a very nice dog park. STORY TIME! Last Saturday, I had been at the park for about an hour and a half. My dog, Lincoln, had been playing with a variety of different dogs big and small. They had been slowing down when a couple with their bulldogs (Brazilian Bulldog and Blue Southern something or other) enter the park. All seemed well for the start. Their dogs didn't seem very interested in running around or playing, which could have been the weather. In an attempt to stay relatively close to Lincoln, I switched benches and over heard a conversation about the woman's bulldogs get "attacked" by a husky/malamute mix that was a regular there. She stated that she thought this dog had to be a wolf hybrid mix and how she Googled it and blah blah blah. If it is the dog I know of, I find this highly unlikely, since this dog plays great with my small dog. No sooner am I thinking this, that one of her bulldogs LUNGES at Lincoln. He begins yelping at the top of his lungs and running, tail between his legs. It started quite a commotion with all owners running after their dogs and trying to break it up. The woman threw water at them and then literally laid her body down on top of the dog to get it to stop. I promptly got my very shaken up dog and see a woman from the Animal Shelter running over to make sure all was okay. We checked Lincoln over for blood and she made a wild guess as to which dog it was, yes, the bulldogs! She said they had been in a few other altercations and unfortunately they don't have a "three strikes and you're out rule" or else they would be gone. Moral of the story, if you see this blonde woman with her two bulldogs... steer clear! I will not stop coming here, but I will absolutely leave if I see her, or at least switch sides. To seal the deal she remained quiet as a mouse as I left. No apology, no acknowledgement, no nothing. Pretty unfortunate.

Swan Boat Restaurant…read more We were looking for a place for lunch to celebrate my adult daughter's birthday and spotted tables and chairs from across the water, the location of the swan boat. We ordered a chicken flat bread, roast beef flat bread, Greek salad, and some pasta. Not knowing what kind of food to expect at a boat house we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The chicken flat bread was wonderful, crispy on the outside, warm and moist on the inside. The roast beef sandwich was also delicious and warm. Both good sized sandwiches were served with homemade chips and a pickle. The Greek salad was refreshing and plentiful full of mixed greens, tomatoes, olive, cheese, and cucumber. Siting by the water front was so peaceful and relaxing after walking much of Roger Williams Park. The park had other restaurants by the carousal and in the zoo, but those served fast food hot dogs and such. We finished off our meal with a couple of ice creams. The Swan boat restaurant was such a wonderful and tasty surprise that my group all agreed, it was the best and most memorable part of our day in the Park. The waterfront atmosphere made it perfect! Roger Williams Park in general was very nice and quaint. We enjoyed walking through the botanical garden, Japanese garden, and the next day the zoo since we were short on time the first day.
