I love India Point Park & I love that they've been doing more work to make it nicer and more inviting. The swings are a great addition, and I use the bike path and walking paths there frequently. As the weather gets better, I'm looking forward to spending more time there. One of my favorite parks in Rhode Island! So well maintained & full of nature (bugs, birds, squirrels, & more) despite being very much in the middle of the city. It connects Wickenden to the water in such a pleasant way. I also swear the plants & trees cut down the traffic noise from the evil Washington Bridge - which is much appreciated. Whoever was on the civil engineering team for designing this park deserves major props. Big fan. read more

This park is on the bay, where the Providence and Seekonk rivers meet, and located in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence. It was established in 1680 as the first port in Providence; it was a major transportation hub for material goods and passengers. Tea and spices were traded with the East and West Indies, hence the name India Point. Steamships transported passengers from Baltimore, Miami, and Philadelphia. There's so much history there. There was a wide fishing dock and plenty of people fishing on it when we went; signs all around mentioning to not gut the fish on the dock, once caught, for obvious reasons. A beautiful walking path with views of the water. There were old wooden poles sticking out of the water which I'm assuming were old docks. There were plenty of green space and benches throughout. My toddler enjoyed the fenced in playground; it had a beautiful stone wall with art on it, swings, slides, climbing playscapes, benches, and tables. There was a large soccer field adjacent to the playground. A pedestrian bridge which goes over 1-195 can be accessed there as well as the East Bay bike path. There are many events that takes place there like the annual fourth of July celebrations. Overall, a lovely park with an immense amount of history! read more

India Point Park is located in the historic Fox Point neighborhood. There are beautiful views of the Providence Harbor and Seekonk River. On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, City of Providence's Independence Day Celebration was held at India Point Park. Programming begins at 6pm and the fireworks display runs from 9pm to 9:30pm. There were live entertainment and food trucks. I arrived at India Point Park around 8:00pm and there were many people around. People had portable chairs or blankets and enjoying the night. The fireworks display started at 8:58pm and it was magnificent. It lasted till about 9:30pm and there were a lot of people heading out. Thankfully, we walked and didn't have to be in the car traffic. I am looking forward to next year's Independence Day Celebration. read more

India Point Park is a place that I've frequented a bunch this summer. One of the reasons I enjoy it is because it's in close proximity to downtown and the Fox Point area. I really appreciate all the activities taking place at the park this summer. Last weekend, I stopped by for the fireworks and went to the Cape Verdean parade. I think it's location on the water makes it so peaceful. It's easy to find a place to sit and meditate or feel the breeze coming from the water. Definitely a place I would recommend for people with kids or pets. read more

One Sunday we were walking by the water in Providence, and we found ourselves passing India Point Park. While we were passing, we saw quite a number of mobile/movable food stalls which comprise a Food Festival. Tip: The price for one of the tickets necessary to visit the food stalls is $20; we considered the value proposition and decided to pass. read more

A good park along Narragansett Bay. India Point Park is the best shoreline in Providence. Lots of open green space. Getting here from downtown is kind of hard because there's not many parking spaces and the fastest way is a bus. This still isn't that far of a walk. It sits between the shoreline and I-195. Listening to that traffic is the worst thing about it making it less enjoyable than it should be but after awhile you ignore the noise. The access to the park is a bridge over the interstate coming along East Street. A great view is at the end of the bridge. The park is down the large staircase. Cool features in and around. It's across the street from Narragansett Brewery. This is also close to the Brown University campus so you can spot some eggheads which makes for some interesting people watching. read more

One of my favorite parks in RI. It's by the river with amazing waterfront views. They normally (pre-Covid) have concerts in the summer and fireworks on the 4th of July. Perfectly sized for families with young children. Tons of parking in the lots and n the sidewalk I love their rope playground so much and wish an adult-sized version existed. I climbed onto the jungle gym and walked across the rope bridge while the kids were away and had so much fun while getting a little workout. (climbing ropes is so much more fun than rock climbing). The East Bay bike path starts at the park, making it a beautiful ride! read more

According to the Friends Of India Point Park, India Point Park features 18 acres of open space, trees and walking paths along its 3,600-foot shoreline. Located at the confluence of the Seekonk and Providence Rivers where they widen into Narragansett Bay, the Park is the only broad expanse of Bay shoreline in Providence accessible to the public. It gives nearly 200,000 people a day a dramatic view of the Bay. We arrived here early to catch the Providence-Newport Seastreak Ferry. The Providence Terminal is located adjacent to the park. As we had plenty of time before our ferry was to depart, we decided to stroll around the park. It is a very long, and relatively narrow park, offering great views of the bay. There are nice bike paths, walking trails and a playground. It also offers a long shoreline for fishing, or just sitting down to take in the view. read more

We love this park! great park to stroll sit or take kids to playground. Its mostly a big kids playground 5+ but little ones can enjoy some of the sections too. Its a great place to bring snacks or basket of food and look out on the beautiful water. Parking is awful but I always end up finding something sometimes street parking. With the colder weather rolling in, I'm beginning to miss roaming this park in the balmy breezes of mid-summer. No worries though, this wonderful plot of open air and space has so much to offer no matter the season! Winter: This place turns into a magical winter wonderland during this season, more specifically... when it is blanketed in snow! The large hill that runs up to the walking bridge over 195 turns into a sledding/snowboarding/skiing extravaganza! Last winter following the gigantic blizzard that hit Rhode Island, I suited up and trekked over to the park and snapped a couple of the shots I attached to this review. Simply stunning! Got a kick out of watching the snowboarders and skiers jump over the rails and slides over self-built snow ramps. Spring: Whats better than a walk in the park as the world begins to thaw from the frozen depths of the early months. Flower are blooming, people begin to enjoy soccer games in the field, fisherman populate the docks, tightrope walkers wrap cord around tree trunks, the list of interesting sights and sounds goes on and on. Summer: Fireworks!! The park fills up tremendously to enjoy this summer in July staple. More enjoyable to spend time nearer to sunrise and set, there are plenty of people that lay out to catch some rays, ride bikes to join the East Bay Bike Patch, etc. If you're lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a cruise ship docked in the park's center. I've seen speed boat conventions, weddings, boating classes, and so much more. Fall: The leaves falling, a crisp chill in the air. Check out the Rhode Island Seafood Festival that makes its way through this park in September. Or perhaps you could hang around and check out the sunken remains of a ship right over the rail from the path following the water. Overall, I love having this little piece of heaven nearby to enjoy the great outdoors. Plenty of paths for exercising or trees to provide shade to lounge around in. read more

India Point Park is a great place to take a nice stroll before it gets too chilly in Providence. It's not far from Brown's campus and has ample space for a cute little potluck during the Spring (which is, in fact, what some of our friends did last year). There is a great grassy area for dogs to play, a playground for the kids, and nearby bike paths. A lot of people jog through the park as well. There is a beautiful view at sunset and for all you Pokemon Go lovers out there, it's a great place to go during Community Day since it is near the water and there are more than a few nearby Pokestops! Not going to lie, India Point Park is the perfect place to contemplate life or take a much-needed smoke break (if you smoke, that is). I'll only be at Brown for 2.5 more years, so I'm excited to see what that park is like during some kind of event during the warmer seasons! read more

From scrap metal a park is born. India Point Park is a 18 acre park on the south east side of Providence between the Seekonk and Providence Rivers. It was built on the remains of an old scrap metal yard and some large chunks of junk are still visible and passes for art. The park has a waterfront of almost two thirds of a mile and is a cool place for a walk, especially in the colder months. India Point is also the northern most end of the 17 mile East Bay Bike Path and makes a nice place to take a break before turning around. Plenty of benches, tables and little playgrounds as well as informative plaques explaining the history of the park and area are scattered throughout the 18 acres. Unfortunately when I-95 was completed the park was effectively cut off and isolated from the rest of the city. A very wise decision was made to put a pedestrian bridge over the highway and now a very cool fifty foot wide bridge allows access to the park from the north side of the city. The scenery is more historical than aesthetic. Lots of old rusty bridges and ships to look at and old decaying piers and wooden things of functions that can no longer be determined are scattered about. A great place to ruminate about the past and wonder what the waterfront was like decades ago. Even though India Point Park was built on junk it remains surprising clean, not a lot of graffiti or broken bottles or used syringes. Because of the relative isolation probably not the best place to hang out after dark but during the day certainly seems quite friendly and safe. read more

This place reminds me of Evanston, IL. A lot of very friendly people. Great to sit by the river on a sunny day or even in the fall. You can oversee the bridge. Connects to the east bay bike trail. Perfect for a picnic though I did not see any grills. Good for playing soccer, frisbee. The people who bring their dogs ar every friendly. As we approached the park for the first time, I was shocked to see the towering pylons bisect the landscape. I briefly imagined pushing my children on swings setup inside of them. I stopped to park the car on India Street but the traffic continued to whip by in both directions. Nobody stopped to let us pull in. Nobody. Honestly, it was frustrating. WIthout even stepping foot in the park, I found it to be lacking. Fortunately, I was elated to discover that, albeit a cliché, this trip proved that you can't judge a book by its cover. The park really opens itself up as you continue to explore it. Between the wonderful smell of barbecue, the soccer games, the people crabbing by the water, the walking bridge, and more, this spot offers countless pleasantries to its visitors. This park is cute and the water view is great. My favorite thing about the park is that you can see the bridge and the water from where ever you are. My least favorite thing about this park is that it's right on the road and the road will always be in view and earshot. I think that Providence would be a sad place if this park wasn't part of it. Providence has many small parks and many dark parks and this is one of the parks in Providence that actually FEELS like a park. You can feel the sun here, and most of the Providence parks do not allow the sun to penetrate all the trees. Because the water is on one whole side of the park you don't feel that the park is boxed in by the city. Last time I came here there were some shady characters, thus the three star. If you're a young woman and you plan on staying in one place I do recommend that you bring a friend. But all in all, the park is very pretty. It's not big enough to really get a workout in unless you're doing stationary yoga or tai chi but it lends some nice atmosphere to Providence and really brightens up the place. It's big enough to tan in (I've humorously noticed people doing this) but It's still not nearly as big as a park should be in order to accommodate an entire community. India Point Park has only 18 acres of land (as opposed to Slater Park's 197 acres). There are dozens of parks near where I live in Providence but India Point is the most appealing off-campus park nearby. read more

India point park is a cute park in providence tight on the water. I usually grab some coffee on Wickenden street and then take a stroll through the park, sometimes walking all the way to the crook point bridge. They also have lots of events here like firework on Fourth of July, food truck seats, a seafood festival with music, food and entertainment. There's also a pretty large playground for kids to play on and several paved paths for runners. I personally like to walk here on chillier days. During the summer people fish and gut them on the side and there's a bit more trash lying around and it gets a little smelly. During the summer there is more people walking around on hard drugs and homeless people hanging out. I have not been bothered here or felt unsafe because there's usually at least several people walking their dogs, jogging, or hanging with their kids. If you're on the more nervous side I would just bring a friend! read more

So if that's your thing, too, you're in luck! More broadly, however, our family likes the playground area, the meandering walkways and cycling paths around the periphery and through the center of the space, the views across the bay and toward College Hill, the stairway and ramps to run on your way up to and down from the bridge, and even the non sequitur hulking metal objets d'art in the middle that are great for zooming Hot Wheels up and down. To be clear, with the highway so close by, it is pretty noisy. If your main focus is to find a patch of grass and relax in peace and quietude, maybe we could interest you in the Prospect Park model, or perhaps the Blackstone Blvd vicinity would suit your needs. Still this park fills the bill nicely for a variety of activities, and belongs squarely in the thick of your park rotation around Providence. read more
