As she wrapped up my purchase, she took the time to write down a description of all gemstones and elements in the jewelry so I'd have it for my records. The jewelry and artwork was reasonably priced, especially when I remembered to tell them I live in Oregon, so no sales tax was collected. It is great to be an Oregonian, even in Washington. Birdnest is a stop on the Gig Harbor Art Walk held on the first Saturday of every month.

With the typical weather patterns in the Northwest, indoors is good. Art is so personal, I am always conflicted about assigning stars. One person's masterpiece is another person's candidate for the junk pile. So don't read too much into this rating. Of the seven galleries/studios we visited, nothing here 'spoke to me.' I ended up making purchases at two other galleries on the tour. It was the largest gallery of those we visited and the artists were welcoming and had snacks for visitors. My rating is based purely on my personal impression of the collection. Again, the largest, but nothing that knocked my socks off. However, collections change, so I would give it another try the next time I'm in town.

Cooperative membership galleries are the front line heroes of the art world, and this gallery boasts an impressive array of artists! Cooperative galleries, which are usually owned by a group of artists who share the expenses (and sometimes duties) of running the gallery are great places to always see work by a lot of artists at once. They also have to sell artwork in order to pay bills. Artists usually pay a monthly fee or a small commission on sales and keep the bulk of their sales. I particularly liked the work of visiting artist Jeanne Anderson, especially a gorgeous watercolor of a waterfall. Also liked the fine art woodwork of Dale McDaniels, whose intelligent pieces once again showcase why just because it's wood it doesn't have to be relegated or labeled "craft." If you're in Gig Harbor, this is a must visit place!

I didn't get the name of the artist who helped us, but he was just a sweetheart. He was an elderly gentleman who had a peaceful, laid-back vibe. I purchased a greeting card and a small ceramic bird on a metal stick. I'm very happy with my purchases. Prices ran the gamut, there was something there for almost every budget. We weren't in there for a very long time, but I'm happy we visited and felt that it was well worth the stop.

Most of the art are paintings, but there are also sculptures, photography, jewelry, and even some furniture. I am one of the local artists, and I have been so impressed by how well they have treated me and all the other artists I've met. Their customer service is beyond anything I've encountered before! They work closely with both artists and customers to create a customized experience, unique to each person's needs. It's definitely well worth your time to check them out!! The artwork is frequently rotated, but you can see their full collection by clicking on each artist on their website. Anything you would like to see in person, they'd easily arrange. They also host a solo artist exhibition each month with lovely complimentary food and beverages. It makes for a great date night!!! You can find the dates for each month's exhibition on their home page. Barlow is honestly a wonderful place to visit - there's nothing else quite like it in Tacoma!!!

I read about the Art Walk in a Tacoma paper and so we decided to cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for a little outing, not really expecting much. I thought it might be held outdoors along the waterfront, similar to a Farmer's Market. Instead, galleries open their doors, and in some cases offer appetizers and drinks, which is so very smart with our typical NW weather. There is also a scavenger hunt element. Pick up a form at any gallery, collect the stamps at each location and you are entered in the monthly drawing for a gift certificate or prize from one of the galleries. The Art Walk is just an excuse to visit the charming city of Gig Harbor. My husband was ready to strap his kayak to our car and move here. It was that beautiful. When we visited, there were seven businesses participating in the Art Walk and everyone was very welcoming. Most were clustered within easy walking distance of each other in the heart of Gig Harbor, so it was a nice way to see this town. One gallery was located about a mile north, but still an easy drive with a pretty view. Of the seven businesses, we made purchases in two. So great for the businesses and even better for me.
