A School That Has Become Family…read more I just want to take a moment to share how incredibly grateful I am for this beautiful school. My family has been part of this wonderful Montessori community for over 17 years. It all started with my oldest daughter, who was just a little one when she began here, and she was the first of my children to graduate from this amazing school and go on to kindergarten. The legacy continued with my other two children. My son, who is now almost 16, also graduated from this school before starting kindergarten, and now my youngest, who is one and a half, is continuing that same beautiful journey. I truly cannot recommend this school enough. I have been so incredibly satisfied with the care, love, and education my children have received throughout the years. The teachers are absolutely amazing, and the environment is such a healthy, positive, nurturing place for children to grow and learn. I also want to give a special thank you to Mrs.Effie , the owner, who has been so wonderful to me and my family throughout all these years. She has truly become such an important part of our family's journey. After 17+ years, this school is so much more than just a school to us -- it feels like family. Upon walking into each class during our tour, the difference was immediately clear. The children were each fully engaged in their own individual activity, it was quiet and the manners and behavior observed was very pleasing. We knew our child would fit in, and she's been very happy over the past couple months now. Besides the environment, the staff and Effie are excellent in addressing our needs and concerns. They also close down for a whole week between Christmas and New Years and still charge for the week that they are closed. Our daughter, just under two, attended A Child's Garden Montessori for three days before we pulled…read moreher out. We had just moved to the area, and our daughter had previously been enrolled in an excellent daycare from three months old where she had done very well. I'm ashamed to say that in our rush to get things set up here, we didn't listen to our gut telling us "no", and ignored a lot of red flags about A Child's Garden before and during the three days she was there: 1. During our tour, the school director made a comment about how a Montessori curriculum can be great for "retarded children". Our daughter does not have an intellectual disability; this comment was unprompted. 2. The staff lost at least some of our paperwork almost immediately, and then accused us of never having turned it in. 3. The front desk was empty most of the times we were there, including on our daughter's first day. 4. At dropoff on our first day, the AM daycare teacher didn't welcome our daughter, or introduce herself to her, or make any attempt at ensuring a successful initial dropoff. 5. At dropoff on our first day, they didn't have a cubby or hook prepared for our daughter. 6. We got conflicting reports from various staff members regarding the first couple days. One would say she had a good day, another a rough day; one said there were no real issues transitioning, another would say she was really struggling; one said she slept for ninety minutes, another said she slept for maybe thirty. No agreement on basic issues of fact, so we couldn't really trust anything we were being told. 7. At pickup on the third day, our daughter could barely speak. We'll never know exactly what happened that day, but our daughter apparently cried long enough and hard enough that she physically couldn't speak above a whisper for a day and a half afterward. I've never seen anything like it. She seemed traumatized. She was timid, depressed, and overall a shell of her usual bright bubbly self. It terrified us and broke our hearts. 8. On that day - the worst day of our young daughter's life so far - the teacher's notes were empty. Blank. Not a word of anything amiss. 9. When we asked our daughter if she ever wanted to go back - if she wanted to see her teacher (let's call her Jane) again - she became upset and said "no Jane, no Jane, no Jane" over and over again. 10. When I went in to pick up our daughter's belongings and inform them we were pulling her out of the school, and asked her teacher where some of my daughter's things were, the teacher looked at me blankly and said, "Who?" --- Thankfully, after pulling her out of A Child's Garden, we were able to get her into another school where she's done very well; the normal anxiety from being in a new place was handled expertly by a team of caring and professional teachers and staff. She is loved and cared for there, and I once again have a happy kid excited to go to school and learn. I don't think I'll ever fully forgive myself for putting my daughter through those three days at A Child's Garden.

My child started at age 4 at Frisco Trails montessori in 2023 (then called Frisco Trails…read moremontessori, then briefly changed to LIttle Leaders, now renamed to Visionary Montessori Academy at Teel), and is to start Kindergarten this year in Frisco ISD. We moved to Frisco from NY. We went through 2 daycares in NY before we started here. We checked out several montessoris before we signed up for Frisco Trails. There are fancier, more expensive options in Frisco. I wanted my daughter to be in a comfortable, safe environment that's also down-to-earth and not a five-star hotel. We were very happy overall with the montessori. There was some teacher turnover, but not a lot. They dont have too many more closed days than the federal holidays. Teachers paid individual attention to the kids. They have parent-teacher meetings few times a year to update parents on the child's strengths and areas of improvement. There would be time for study but also play, frequent fun activities. My kids bring home amazing crafts. Every week the toddles have a new learning theme, like continents, plants, oceans. They email us every weekend about a summary of the last week, and teaching lined up for the next week. My daughter has learned to read and write fairly well before she goes to KG. They don't have a fancy app to message parents, but in my past experience, updating apps takes up teachers' time and concentration away from their main focus on children. Emails have worked just fine. The teachers and administration are easy-going and generally accommodating. I put my younger kid here as well. She had frequent viral infections her 6 months or so, after that its been pretty smooth. This past winter was not bad at all.

Although Wonderland was the furthest from our house in Allen (20 min each way) and we passed direclty past 4 other schools on our way there every morning we picked Wonderland. For the last two years they have exceeded our expectations every day. Our daughter started when she was just under two. Immediately her vocabulary grew exponentially. She also showed increased focus and started thinking of others, using words like please and thank you routinely. Her social skills improved and her personality blossomed. She was fully potty trained before her 3rd birthday. As she continued to attend she started doing things like getting her own breakfast of berries and cheerios (at 3 years old). EVERY member of the staff truly cares and does their job because they love kids and believe in the Montessori method. The facilities at the school are second to none. Last month we had to move to Austin for my job. Since the move we have toured 7 schools, all more expensive, and none with the staff or facilities Wonderland has. Wonderland is something truly special for kids in McKinney.

Wonderland Montessori School in McKinney has tremendous factors that I as well as any parent would find intolerable I feel the teachers' appearances should be professional and most importantly appropriate for a school environment. However the kids at Wonderland get to view their teachers with body piercings, see thru provocative shirts and tops, and multiple tattoos over their bodies. The Montessori should be called daycare because of the fact the children are not receiving a quality Montessori curriculum let alone structure. Children are behaving wildly, having complete control over their classroom, hitting teachers as well as other kids with multiple objects, clearly substantiating dismissal from such a "quality" school. There seems to be no planning of events that involve the parents and their kids. Communication is not consistent, let alone any communication of any kind whatsoever. I have found on several occasions staff members not present in specific key areas where they clearly should be. Who holds a conference with parents in the "hallway," who throws events together spur of the moment? Clearly there is no leadership at this school. Clearly there is no set guidelines for the classroom structure and curriculum, and clearly the communication I have rec'd in talking to multiple parents is that we are no longer going to "Wonder" What in God's name is happening at that damn school...Wonderland...and it's no "Wonder" why I like many other parents are headed outta there and enrolling in a proper environment such as Starwood Montessori in Frisco, where my money is being used for a good cause- my kid! Teachers are in uniforms, there is structure in the classroom, the setting is truly a "school-atmosphere." I chose Heritage Montessori based on rigorous research of DFS infractions, online reviews from…read moreparents, and finally my in person visit and tour of the school. I was pleased to find this school had only 1 very minor infraction that was immediately handled and had numerous great reviews from parents. Furthermore, I felt very welcomed during my two in school tours by myself and then again with my two boys. Ms. Guyatri was especially loving and the teachers had been their for many many years. All of the above reasons are why I chose Heritage Montessori when our nanny gave us a two week notice. However, I feel absolutely compelled to write this review so that ALL parents understand the importance of looking at the provided camera detail of the classrooms. Had I not done this, my oldest son would have continued to be singled out and mistreated by Nimmi Gudavalli, the Elementary class teacher. On our first day, Nimmi was at the front desk and was immediately surprised when we told her that our son was going to be in her class. She was not at all welcoming or friendly. While I understood her surprise having not been told or having not met us since she was on a field trip during my initial visits, this was not a good representation for the school. From then on, I was told very rudely that my son's photo would not be put up like the other students because it was close to the end of the year and there would be a new teacher for the summer, and because she had heard my son wasn't coming back for the fall, among other questionable actions. Two days after my son started in Nimmi's classroom, I was granted access to view his room. And immediately, I was completely horrified by what I watched first hand. Despite their being at least 20 empty desks in the classroom facing inward toward the world map rug, my son was turned around facing a black refrigerator in a corner BY HIMSELF. For circle time, my son tried to join the other kids on the rug and when Nimmi came back into the room she made him leave the circle and sit back in the corner facing the refrigerator. I was livid. I immediately called Ms Guyatri and she also saw the video of my son in the corner by himself while all the other children and Nimmi were having class on the rug. She was stunned and agreed to immediately go to the classroom and get my son out of the corner and have him with the rest of the class. The sad part is that had I not been watching via my phone, I don't know how long Nimmi would have thought it was ok to single a child out, turn their desk around and put them in the corner as if they are being punished. Of course after meeting with Ms Guyatri I switched classrooms. To my surprise, Nimmi had already packed my son's things and put them at the door as if to say Good Riddins! Her excuse was she didn't think he would understand what they were going over during circle time and would be distracted. In other words, there was no good excuse for singling out 1 student and making them feel like they weren't part of the class and putting them in a corner. She had met my child 3 days prior and had assumed he wouldn't understand and felt her actions were appropriate. As a so-called teacher, this was beyond unacceptable and she and Ms Guyatri were told as much among other things as any parent could imagine. Ms Guyatri tried to say Nimmi was stressed, but honestly if stress causes a "teacher" to mistreat a child then they no longer need to be a teacher. No child deserves the treatment my son went through during his first 3 days of school. And women like Nimmi Gudavalli are the reason some kids get off to a bad start not having a loving, nurturing, inclusive environment where they are encouraged and pushed to become their best selves. I really write this long story short to make parents aware of the need to monitor their children, ask questions and always speak up when you see something that is not right. After all, while Heritage is a far cry from what I was paying for a full time nanny for the past 5 years, I'm still spending my money and am entitled to better.
