I was surprised to see their lack of COVID19 precautions since I'm here for a Red Cross class. Only this class is masked.
    Rohan D.

I was in for a Red Cross training class, and that was run very well. The instructor was knowledgeable and followed the Red Cross standards carefully. In the process I was able to see what was going on in the rest of the place at the same time, I was in all day. The swimming instructors seem to be excellent. This Y has good equipment that appears to be well maintained. Note that I visited in the middle of the Pandemic, if I weren't vaccinated I would have turned around and left upon entry. Many of the workers and most of the patrons are not masked, not distancing, and remember, people are working out. There's lots of breathing into other peoples faces, this is a busy, crowded facility. There isn't a lot of surface cleaning between patrons, there really isn't time or space. Vaccinated or not, this place is dangerous during Covid 19 and this should stand as a warning for their actual practices of "responsibility, and safety," which is part of a five part mission statement spelled out in banners. I suppose they're good on the other three. Afterwards I looked it up, and the area did have expanding rates that month, it's just one of those areas where the critical mass of community members are science deniers. Also, you know what the Village People's YMCA song was really about? I'm not sure since I'm a little naïve about stuff like this and I kept a safe distance, but I think there may have been a bit of that going on in the adult men's locker room. If I were you I would wait until after the Pandemic and maybe even then, think twice.

I took about a year and…read morea half off due to surgeries, etc. during this time I received a notice that one of my credit cards had been hacked. As time went by HBO and the car wash both informed me I had to use a new card. No problem. I went to Planet Fitness finally they told me the same thing. My card had been turned off for about five months. When I first came in, I told the lady at the front desk about my situation. She had absolutely zero empathy or ability to think outside of the Tiny little box of training that she had in her head. very sternly, she cut me off before I could even explain and said I had to pay for all of the months that I did not use it and late fee for all of the months that they weren't able to charge my card. I explained to her what happened and that I understood I had to pay for the months, but did not think a late fee should be charged. I honestly would've gave in if she had just explained nicely the situation. But she was so harsh with me and looked at me with such anger in her eyes. It immediately "triggered" me. at this point, I demanded to speak with her boss. The boss was willing to waive the late fees, but was unwilling to even acknowledge that the lady at the front desk was extremely rude to me. She stood there over the Manager shoulder glaring at me. I just finally stormed out before I said something I'd regret. Sat in my truck and cooled off, and I started thinking about it. If I drive away now, will they continue wrapping up monthly charges? So be grudgingly I went back in and spoke with the manager and she said yes they were going to continue charging it and take me to small claims. I paid the bill right there minus the late fee and I told them they would never get another penny from me. Just so you understand. I am the perfect client for the fitness center. I hardly ever show up and when I do, I don't use showers or lockers or suntanning or any of that crap. I do a little work out by myself and I walk out. Sometimes all I do is use the massage bed. But the lady at the front desk couldn't see any of that. In fact, she couldn't even understand. I hadn't been there in a year and I was still willing to pay every month.! I now spend my money at the WAC. Same price as Planet Fitness since I'm a military veteran and my wife is a member. 30 bucks a month for everything swimming pools, hot tubs dry saina steam rooms. Do you want the amenities and perks like massage chairs, hydromassage and tanning beds? Then Black Card is for you. For me, taking my kids to soccer practice 30-45 minutes away, I'm not driving home to only turn around to pick up. I like the ability to go to another PF. I travel for work and occasionally will hit a PF in that city. I like the use of a massage chair here and there. I've visited perhaps 6 other locations and absolutely the Waukesha location is the cleanest, seems to be bigger and brighter with all of the windows. They are franchises, so perhaps that is the reason. Full-Body Workout Options Your location may have one of these options to help you get in a full workout: A Synergy 360 machine (a versatile workout station allowing you to work many different muscles) A 30-minute Express Circuit room where you rotate between strength and cardio stations for 30 minutes Weight Lifting If you're passionate about weight lifting, this is the one area where Planet Fitness might not serve your needs very well but I have found it to be adequate. They have a solid collection of free weights (dumbbells and barbells) as well as Smith barbell machines, but most Planet Fitness locations don't have proper bench-press or squat racks, or bars heavy enough to deadlift but they have assisted type "squat racks" and most use this for squats and bench-press beyond the 80 lbs. dumbbells. If you're looking for good weight lifting equipment, check out another gym even if it bumps up your budget a little, again, I slowly found this is adequate especially for the price. All members have access to Planet Fitness changing rooms, lockers, and showers. Note that for the lockers, you'll need to bring your own padlock or rent one from the front desk if you want to lock up your belongings while you exercise. If you plan to use the showers, bring your own towel.

But I get ahead of myself. I really want to give an honest, useful review, and I will write from good to bad. Food Program: 5 The diet and exercise program is effective, without being overly complex. In 6 weeks, following their required minimum attendance at 3 bootcamps (I did 4 for two weeks), and mostly following the food plan religiously, I lost 20.1 lbs and reduced my body fat % by 4.4. The results are there to be had, if you commit and don't get injured. They tell you up front that the weight-loss results are 80% from following the food plan rigorously, and I have to agree. The horror of my normal diet was revealed to me as I converted to a low-carb, high protein "clean" diet. I was not hungry ever, though changing habits to cook within the program limitations required some extra time. Nothing worthwhile is easy I guess. Exercise Program: 5 The workouts were excellent. High intensity circuit training, with variety every day. I was amazed to find out how thoroughly my body could be worked in no more than 45 minutes! Different trainers bring their individual styles, and after a couple weeks I knew which classes to attend for best satisfaction. (If you're new to exercise, have laid off for too long as I had, or generally don't know your kettle bells from your lats, please pay attention to the "Personalization" section, later.) Staff: 4.5 Generally decent. The front office staff involved in getting me started all knew their specific roles. Though the "on-boarding" seemed a little rushed, they do have a well-oiled system for getting more and more people into their system. As for trainers -- They all know what they're doing, and led fun classes. I found 3 regular instructors to be especially knowledgeable and willing to work above and beyond the minimums: Hat-tip to Alex Mariani, Andrew McWilliams and Justin Pleznik, who all contributed directly to helping me avoid injury!! Each person will find their own favorites, and these were mine. Personalization: 2 I entered the program as a sedentary 52 year old with back issues. I explicitly noted to everyone I talked to that my priority was not injuring my back. During the induction process, everyone assured me that there would be plenty of custom tailoring to my needs, but I found myself to be largely on my own in making sure I didn't push too hard, too fast. Know thyself! As I noted above, if you're new to exercise, circuit training, groups, free weights, etc., you will mostly be expected to figure everything out on your own, or by watching the regulars. Take things at a pace YOU can tolerate. Don't push too hard and injure yourself on day 1. No one will be telling you not to, aside from the general guidance to work to your own limits. For the price, I expected a little more personal attention to technique, form, etc. I got if from the three mentioned above, but I think those first couple classes are the balance point between a successful course, and a potential horrifying crash into injury. YMMV. Cost/Advertising: 1 I have two issues: First, false/misleading advertising, and second hidden prices/evasive answers. === False/Misleading Advertising === I responded to a Facebook Ad boldly touting a "FREE" 6-week challenge bootcamp. Within moments of entering my initial orientation, I was sat down to discuss cost. It's free, right? Well, "The Challenge is free... we normally sell that for $799, but we're giving it away to you! All you have to do is pay $294, for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks your "Membership will automatically continue at $49 per week. You can cancel any time after your six weeks, but you have to give us 30 Days cancellation notice..." tl;dr - this FREE challenge will cost you $294, which is -- wait for it -- $49 a week!! The same price you will continue having automatically debited after your six weeks ends. And if you're not careful, you're also locking yourself into 4 weeks BEYOND the 6 weeks. If their phrasing leads you to believe you can't give notice of quitting until after your six weeks is complete, you will be locked into 4 more payments of $49. To successfully leave this Six Week program you have to give 30 days notice before you even begin your THIRD WEEK! When I wanted to continue, but not at the VIP level, I asked for alternative price packages. They have nothing in writing to give me. I asked, what would the price be for the right to attend 3 classes a week, instead of unlimited. I was told $67 a week. That is insane, if my unlimited package is $49. Stop the misleading ads. Just tell people it is $49 a week, and no alternatives exist. The only reason I'm not continuing the program is because of this cost/evasiveness issue. Larissa (GM) was super, processing my cancellation quickly, with no hassles. Thank you
