After three visits, all for the Duck Flurry, Waunakee continues to be excellent. A very challenging course, at a great time of year (we've always had really awesome weather for a day outside) and with extremely friendly staff plus plenty of giveaways (the three year tally includes 3 boxes of shells, a cleaning kit, a screwdriver set, 3 bags of duck decoys, and a million candlepower spotlight, just from door prizes) - all of those things keep us going back. I know I have the second weekend in September booked on my calendar on a perpetual basis. There's even pretty good burgers, brats, and chicken sandwiches for sale, no need to leave to grab a good bite. I can't recommend it enough. read more

We stopped in a couple Sundays ago with: 2 experienced hunters 3 not-so-good people 1 girl who's never shot a gun It could have been a joke, but everyone welcomed us newbies in with open arms. They even lent us a couple guns since we only had two between the group. Shooting skill aside (I think we combined hit 30/150) it was a blast and a quick trip from Madison - you don't even need to be a member! Tons of fun for only $7 per person. Check the website for open shooting times. Boxes of shells (12 & 20ga) are $7 each, which isn't horrible, but they suggested a stop at Wal-mart before to save a couple bucks. read more

Fun place to go with friends or family to shoot clays. Sporting clays are well set up and enjoyable to shoot. System uses a card to track your clays so you pay for what you throw. This includes any misfires, but they usually spot a few as a courtesy for their guests. Afterwards there are drinks to be had and a game to watch after you clean your equipment with their complimentary stuff. Phone ahead just to make sure they will be open in the event of inclement weather. read more
