It's been known as the top course in the area, and the cost reflects that. Anyone who has read my golf course reviews knows I like a good round for a nice price. On Monday we found a very nice deal for today, so out we went! To start, the place is gorgeous. The clubhouse is exquisite, as one would expect it to be. The grounds are immaculate. It's a great feeling to get into an electric golf cart with GPS built in. We headed over to the driving range to knock out a few balls before hitting the first tee. Nice Taylor Made range balls - livin' the high life today! The course itself is amazing. It's not your standard course where fairways run along each other making you feel boxed in by all the golfers. This course is a stroll through the rolling hills and woods of Verona, WI. While the course was busy, we only really noticed the group behind us. No big worries about slicing one into a crowd (because there's woods there...). The holes are challenging and not your "cookie cutter" holes from more basic courses. Interesting turns, strategically placed bunkers, and some water here and there make you think about your next shot. Same with some tee shots - do I go over those trees? Do I lay up because the fairway ends at 250? Do I drive the green and cut over that woods? Oh, to have some shots back... To summarize so far - we have a top-notch course, immaculate grounds-keeping, and a creative layout. What a place. Keeping that in mind, this is NOT a place for hackers to visit and work out the kinks. The course wants you to play to pace (2:15 per nine holes). If you start falling behind pace (they track you via GPS), they will come tell you to pick it up. If your shots are all over the place, you're best suited for a different course that is more forgiving. If you duff a lot, you will likely draw the ire of the members behind you waiting to play. Thankfully, we were ahead of pace and having a nice morning! It was an exquisite treat for me. Will I pay rack rate to shoot here? Probably not, unless it's a special occasion or I win the lottery. Will I keep an eye out for some hot rates online? You betcha! I loved playing this course and look forward to hitting it again.

The range is hitting off mats (like many places) and is decent value at $6/11/15 for small/medium/large baskets. They also a rangecard special where you can get $100 value for $80. The practice putting green is usually in good shape and is a good decently large area to practice your short game. As far as the course, I've only played the Billy Goat Par 3, and found it to be fun for beginners, with a range of distances from 90 to 180 yards. The greens and bunkers are maintained pretty well, given the harsh weather conditions in southern Wisconsin recently.

Pro-Tip: Check Groupon for deals beforehand! When you show up, it's a super rugged looking space. Just park somewhere next to the other cars in the dirt, and start your orientation at the main hut. Seeing as we were first timers, Brandon and Carver were put in the round to protect and guide us! There are 15 fields, so we started playing with the big group in a 15-minute session. It was intimidating because they were all big, muscular men, but we played along anyway! Following that, Brandon and Carver were gracious enough to take us out on a separate field and let us play against each other, which was SO MUCH FUN. It's going to be hot, and you're going to get dirty, so just wear some old clothes. The paint does wash off, which is a plus. If you can, protect your head and hands. I went home with a super bruised, swollen knuckle, which was painful but bearable, and another girl went home with a very large welt on her head. It happens all the time, so if you're not one for pain, cover up appropriately. I would highly suggest giving paintballing a shot! Go in with a good attitude and you're guaranteed to have a great time!

The four stars is a combination of location, price and quality. Is this a "four star golf course"?…read more No, that's a high bar. Is this a four-star bargain? You betcha! The rack rate here is $15 for 9 holes, and $25 for 18 (it's 9 holes, so you'd just do two laps). But watch for deals - you can often find the 10am rate for $10. What disappointed me there was the $10 "convenience fee" booking online with them. I did an end-around and booked via Teeoff.com and saved that fee. Whatever you do, it's a pretty decent deal to walk 9 holes "in town". Course quality is okay. The layout is cool - for an executive course (3 par 4s, 6 par 3s), it's got a lot of character. Mature trees, some elevation change, a little water, and some well-placed bunkers give you more to think about than just the pin position. The condition is the "okay" part - some of the more-used parts of the fairway (like, around 220 yards out where many drives land) was full of crabgrass. While not ideal, you're still golfing in town, so you deal with it. This isn't U-Ridge! People - I was greeted by a friendly fellow in the clubhouse. He saw me in the system let me know me and my friends could get out a little early if we wanted to. Very nice and helpful. In short - this isn't a bad little course if you don't want to leave town to scratch that golf itch. If you're looking for the class 18-hole adventure with cart and a well-stocked clubhouse bar, you'll want to go somewhere else and pay up. But this is a nice little slice of nature right in town, and it gets the job done.

The course layout can be a bit confusing so take a picture of the map when you arrive, drop your donation, and get to work. With a range of yardage from 130 to 200, you get a good variety of different distances with plenty of hazards in the form of pine trees and one pond (no bunkers) The greens are a bit rough so not a place to really practice your putting, but again, it's maintained by one guy, Mr. Maly, so keep your expectations in check.

The bunkers and Tees boxes could use some loving care but the fairways and greens are very very nice. Depending on the precipitation, the roughs encourage a player to stay in the fairways as they can wreak havoc on your second shots. Played in late October and the down leaves did not cause any issues in the way of finding balls throughout the course. I will definitely return as it is easy to get to from the Madison area. Facilities are definitely dated for this price range.

This was my first time going to Pinseekers with my husband and a group of friends/family…read more Pinseekers is a large hybrid gold entertainment facility In Deforest, WI fun for the whole family, a group of friends, or as a date night! Even though, I know nothing about golf or how to golf I still had an amazingly fun time at Pinseekers golfing in the golf hitting bay/golf suite my friends rented out with TopTracer technology and interacting with the interactive smart target greens/games. We had such a fun time golfing even though alot of us don't golf. It was very cold out but they have heated golf suites. The service, food, and drinks were great! We really enjoyed the food, snacks, and cocktails! I highly recommend trying their massively delicious well seasoned nachos with chicken which was a huge nacho platter that fed our whole group! We also really loved their Southwest Chicken Egg rolls which were so good! I only went there for the golf but Pinseekers actually has a-lot of fun activities to do with your group or family with a putting course, multi sport simulators, mini bowling, and restaurant and bar. If you are looking for something fun and unique to do in the area check out Pinseekers! They have great food, drinks, and activities that is fun for your whole group!

The bay had a comfy couch to sit on while it wasn't your turn which was nice & relaxing. I'm not a golfer but my husband and father-in-law complained about the tee being too short. That made no difference to me tho! My biggest overall complaint is the reservation time process/policies they have - 1) when reserved online, it said 2 hours 15 minutes but when we checked in we were told only 2 hours of play time and the 15 minutes was for us to clear out at the end and then 2) We were 1 hour 55 minutes into our play time (or so we thought) and they bay games shut off on us because apparently they start your timer as soon as you pay at the cashier so hurry scurry to your bay to get the most of your time!

It was an interesting process for him to get a tee time - members rule the roost at Hawk's, so you take what you can get. Thankfully, they found us a great tee time on a Friday morning - perfect. The course is fantastic. Granted, there are challenges to playing a course for the first time. You don't know where those hidden "gotchas" are. Like - hole #1. It looks like a nice, wide fairway. My drive rode down the left side of the fairway and looked to be in great shape. When you drive up, you realize at the edge of the fairway, it drops off and feeds into some wild grass. I went from "yay" to "boo" in seconds. While I was able to find my ball and hit onto the green from there, I think I could have done better off the tee knowing what was up ahead. But I digress... The entire course has character. Many courses have a few signature holes that everyone remembers while we forget the 14 other drab "straight and boring" holes. But not this course. There is character galore here! I'm not a big fan of courses that have houses along the fairways, but it's not a big problem here. They're only in range if have a terrible hook or slice. While I can slice with the best of them (and did a couple times), I only ended up in one yard (and barely). Some of the houses are pretty impressive and add to the experience. If you insist on a woodsy, all-nature golfing experience, this isn't your course. We didn't have any problems with friendliness - not from other golfers (members) or the staff. Everyone was quite nice and the smiles were out everywhere. I can't afford to golf here often, but if I could, I'd love to.
