Door Creek golf course is a nice track just East of Madison in Cottage Grove. The price is a little high and the course is a very walkable layout with some nice juicy water holes. The bunkers and Tees boxes could use some loving care but the fairways and greens are very very nice. Depending on the precipitation, the roughs encourage a player to stay in the fairways as they can wreak havoc on your second shots. Played in late October and the down leaves did not cause any issues in the way of finding balls throughout the course. I will definitely return as it is easy to get to from the Madison area. I am giving this a 5 star under some caveats. First off, the course is in absolutely top notch condition (July 22, 2024). The fairways a lush and really well maintained, rough is punishing, and the greens are also well maintained - almost too much so. The scenery is beautiful without any gaudy subdivisions or other structures nearby. My partner and I had a hard time scoring despite us hitting some pretty decent shots. The greens feel super fast. Hard to say what they are on the stimp but we just couldn't make our shots hold the greens. After a while we tried to hit our approach shots well short but we'd still find the balls over the green. Anyway, this is a really good golf course and very cheap for its quality. Top notch, especially if you can chip from the back of the greens ;-). read more

The course itself is 4 stars. The facilities felt a bit dated compared to other 4-star courses I've been to. So that's where we're at. The course is very nice. It's your standard Wisconsin "woodsy" golf course. No shortage of trees! And, where there some open spots, the designers have strategically placed bunkers where my ball is likely to go. Fairways are well kept, the bunker sand is decent, and the greens are fine. Some of the tee boxes were a little rough, but that's not high on my list of concerns. I rode in a cart, but I imagine walking 18 wouldn't be too hard. There aren't a bunch of big elevation changes. Layout is good - a few dog-legs left and right with a few shots to carry the creek here and there. It's not just simple straight back-and-forth holes (though there's a few). While distance is great, shot accuracy is probably better at Door Creek as you want to stay out of the woods, water and sand. I'll hit this course again, no doubt. read more

Today on the executive course there were 2 groups of 5 golfers. I think they were a high school team as a coach was there. Why allow groups of 5? Why are they golfing during the prime am hours---9-11? Most high school teams like football, swim team, etc have to practice at 7am. Why don't they do the same? Also, I had my bag sitting near a sand trap and a young guy decided to drag the trap as I was standing there sending a dust storm over me and my bag. As groups of adults gathered to wait we all had the same opinion on letting a golf team practice at that time instead of early am and not in groups of 5! Also, the course maintenance staff was not waiting for people to play a hole and sitting back like they usually have done in the past. We golf here often and they really need to patrol this course more often. read more

We acknowledge this is a golf course, and that 95 % of the reviews will be about the course (which is how it should be). However we aren't golfers, so this review is solely about the bar/restaurant. The menu is somewhat limited, but you can tell they went with the "less is more" philosophy because they really put a lot of quality in their selections. Massive flavors, decent portions, great prices, and phenomenal service through and through. It is a nice somewhat-out-of-town alternative to the downtown Cottage Grove options. The outside patio is amazing, and a great way to unwind. The layout is awesome whether at the outside bar or at one of the tables. And although we aren't golfers, it is clear that golfers appreciate the same thing after they are done as the place is usually pretty busy. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is it is completely seasonal, virtually shutting down in the winter. I mean, we get people don't golf in feet of snow. But the venue could easily be leveraged for live music, and any number of other potions to keep the crowds through the winter. With the amount of parking and other amenities, it is just a shame to lose the place for 3-4 months in the winter. read more

Dude charged me $21 for 9 walking as I questioned the price making sure I was playing 9 and not riding; he assured me it was $21. After playing a trashy corse with debris everywhere I found that is was indeed only $16. So yeah place is wack read more

My son & i were in the area visiting family, and i decided to sign him up for a golf lesson at door creek. My son had a great first lesson, and we've returned several times so he could practice at the driving range. I can't say enough nice things about the staff at door creek! They have been so helpful & friendly to my son as he learns the game. Thanks for an awesome experience - we will be back during our next visit home. read more

I really liked the course! Not many houses surrounding it, pro shop was pretty nice, course was in pretty good shape. My only complaint is that they overbooked everybody. Everything was fine until Hole #8, then we had like 2 groups stacked up, waiting forever. I had to join with another single, and once we got to the back, it was smooth sailing. This is a forgiving, well-maintained basic public golf course. Within its class, I give it 4 stars. It's great for golfing with beginners. In addition to the championship course, they have a 9-hole executive course with foot golf. The executive course, like any par 3 course, can get chewed up quickly in summer, but it's great for practicing short game. read more
