Only reason for the one star is because it won't let me do negative stars. I've seen countless students who have quit flying after having their funds for training lost due to endless hours of needless, useless flight instruction covering things which were not in the ACS (which is the list of things to be taught to students published by the FAA). The owner bills himself as some kind of Guru but hasn't ever worked as a real commercial pilot. In fact at the time I was taken for 75 hours of instruction by this company the instructor didn't even have an instrument license. I came in telling them I wanted to be a commercial pilot and he wasn't capable of helping me reach my goal. but he certainly represented that he could. Never the less every time I got to the point of taking the checkride he would tell me I'm not ready and not sign my books. I should have been referred elsewhere due to the fact that he didn't have the capability to continue my training. But instead he just kept dragging it out. (This happens to the majority of their customers) I went to another school and had my commercial license in a week. This was not in part due to Wausau flying service. It was due to self study and seeing what someone following the ACS and teaching to standards can do. The school I went to always had a plan and followed it. And they didn't charge me ground instruction while preflighting their airplane (something Wausau flying service actually does). If you do business with them the instructors will add time in and try and sneak it by you on the bill hoping you won't ask. Flew in on February 26, 2018. Although runway 5/23 was closed, the winds were only a 10-knot crosswind, so I landed on runway 13. On final approach, it was pretty cool flying over the frozen lake with all of the ice-fishing shacks on it. As I taxied in, the FBO kindly asked if there was anything that they could do for me. I asked for them to top me off with 100LL and chock up the aircraft. The airport dog welcomed me into the clean and well-decorated main area of the FBO. They have vintage posters on the wall and model aircraft hanging from the ceiling. The staff was very professional. I also requested the courtesy car, which they provided. It was one of the nicer courtesy cars that I have used (a Ford SUV). Angela personally lead me to the door and held the door open for me. (Did she know I was going to give her props on yelp?) They asked if I could leave the brakes off, so they could move my single-engine Piper aircraft. I said, "Yes."
