I haven't reserved any time yet but I plan to in the future! I took a small tour of Waveform and I have to say I am very impressed with the photo studio. They have a bunch of new gear which includes some Einstein light packs, a ring flash, pulley-system backdrops (black/white/grey), props, and a green screen and they say they are adding another tile backdrop for even more options. They have over 20 feet of shooting length between the backdrops and the back wall (which has vanity mirrors/ lights and a changing area for your models). I was told that during a photo session, the photographer/model has reign over the music in the building which can set the mood for whatever you're shooting. During my tour there were two other bands rehearsing and one person in the drum room (this space is a rehearsal spot for musicians as well, which adds to the overall live, fun feel of the place) but the bleed from them was very minimal. With the music playing in the photo studio the bleed from the bands wasn't noticeable until the music changed songs or changed genres. So all in all, this place at this price is unbeatable, just stop by for a tour yourself! read more

My two experiences at Waveform Austin have been exceptionally wonderful! The first time was last April. I needed a place to do some product photography, did some research online and found Waveform. Owner Sean Mackie was very accommodating about scheduling a half-day session for me, and at my request, arranged a professional photographer more familiar with studio lighting than I to assist me. The studio space, lighting and equipment are top-notch, the lighting help was just what I needed, and I was very pleased with the results. On the second occasion, just this week, Sean himself worked with me to shoot a different product, with him as the photographer and me as the stylist. He was extremely professional, artistic and exhibited a great deal of care in his work with my product..I deeply appreciate how Sean runs his business, his approach and attitude, and his flexibility and patience. Waveform Austin is a brand new band rehearsal space in North Central Austin. There aren't too many options for rehearsal spaces in the area, and this one blows away any competition simply based on the acoustic qualities of each room and the great value and service provided. The owner is a sound technician and the three rooms have been custom built for a three, four or five piece band. We practiced in the three piece room which included a PA and monitor. The sound was extremely clean, and the acoustic qualities of the room kept bass guitar and vox clear as a bell. The rate was $12 per hour with a special 50% introductory rate, so we basically played for two hours for $12 bucks, incredible value, but even paying full rate - this place offers great bang for the buck. Highly recommended. I think the cheap rate runs through April - if you are a musician that lives in central Austin you should definitely check this place out. read more

From the 1st day of booking, our band has received nothing but the top notch treatment. The owner is very personable and has taken pride in the construction and maintenance of his establishment and hiring of his staff. Speaking of which, the staff is very professional and always greets everyone with a smile, respect, and a willingness to help each band settle in comfortably into their room. They literally open the door for you , as you load-in your heavy gear and offer to help as well, if need arise. In addition, whenever we have made a request, it is taken care of immediately. They are very affordable and personable! I refer any musician to this establishment, because they stand apart in their knowledge, professionalism, and customer service. (As a side note, which is important to me, the rooms & even the bathroom is clean, which is another matter that does not compare in other studios around town). read more

I was so impressed with this practice space. I'm working with a new band and we needed a place to rehearse songs. The rates are very affordable, although slightly higher than Music Lab, but if you live north, you'd spend the extra money on gas commuting down to Oltorf anyway, so I'd say if you're concerned about the little bit higher expense, it kinda works out. Also, Sean, the owner is extremely nice and easy to work with, and you can tell he takes great pride in his product. He takes the time to explain the acoustics of the rooms and how sound reacts in each space. I highly recommend this place! I also got a change to peek at the photo studio. If you're looking to make some interesting and well-lit portraits, this place looks like it would work well. read more

Love this place. Enough that I am almost apprehensive to write this review because I don't want to share!! I have used the photo studio a couple of times now and Sean has done an amazing job creating the perfect space with top of line equipment, strobes, stands, backdrops on a convenient rigging system, and all the misc, necessities you could need. There are is convenient wardrobe/vanity area right there on site. The cost to rent the studio is unbelievably reasonable. The only drawback I can think of is that sometimes you can hear some noise from the band practice rooms, but I believe this is being resolved. read more

You will not believe how good these rooms help you to sound! Very balanced frequency response in all parts of the room, no matter where you're standing. I was a little skeptical regarding the eccentric, (not 90-degree junctures) layout of the ceilings- but this was literally the 1st time I've ever rehearsed in Austin and NOT had to factor in standing waves in speaker placement. The bass traps work perfectly and result in a very warm, full sound across the spectrum. Every rehearsal hall in the country should sound this good- and Sean really should copy-write the template! read more

Love this place and could not believe how inexpensive it was! Don't let that fool you, the equipment and set up is TOP NOTCH. We did a 7 hour photo shoot and the vibe in the studio was perfect. Big open space, amazing background ( all provided to us) and even a change out in flooring. The equipment was top of it's game as well and our photos turned out better than we ever expected. We decided to use Waveform exclusively now. Oh and the owner, Shawn was a super laid back guy that was very much interested in making this a great experience for us. I recently used Sean's studio for a couple different shoots. One for a local fitness boot camp website and another time for a Shock Top Beer shoot. Both times we were greeted by very professional assistance from both the staff and Sean himself. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed the experience. I will be using Wave form in the near future for some local fashion shoots I am doing. I run a local ecom site and need to shoot for my site monthly. Waveform has been absolutely great for that purpose. They have a variety of equipment (all top of the line), several backdrop options, and a dressing/changing area for the models. They also provide you with speakers and an IPod just in case you are concerned about the noise factor from the band rooms. And truthfully when it's on you don't notice the noise at all. The engineering in this place is great. I mean some real thought went into designing it for the best sound possible. Acoustic traps and non parallel surfaces in each studio keep the music from canceling out and sounding dead like in most practice spots. The only place I've ever seen like it and it sounds great. The pricing structure is awesome too, every 5 sessions you get one free. Top notch gear in each room, for just $5 a session. Our band has a new home for sure! read more

I've rented lots of photo studios and Waveform is tops! The gear is great and in good working order, the space is clean, the price is unbelievably low for the value you receive, and Sean, the owner, is responsive and professional. I loved using Waveform for my auditions. This place is pretty awesome... Very friendly staff, they were there just enough to inquire if I needed anything but obviously kept their distance to allow us to work. For the quality of the studio rooms, the hourly rates are more than reasonable. Basically this place is a bargain for what is included. This place is brand new and quality! The rooms sound great and have clearly been made with care. Lots of parking right at the door, which makes load-in real easy. The owner is also real knowledgable and helpful, just a great vibe all around. Been to Waveform 6 times now and have been very pleased with the rehearsal rooms and service that I've received so far. If you need assistance they will go out of your way to help you. They lent me a very nice set of headphones for a recording session after mine had broke right on the spot. I was in dire need to find a backup and they quickly provided a solution. The price is just the first surprise of this studio. Clean, well-lit neighborhood at night, safe for female models to park and come in. The studio is stocked on professional lights, reflectors, rigging system, backdrops, furniture, you name it.
