However this cinemas has a very large number if movies on show each time than others, so those movies that don't seem to be showing at other theaters will most likely be on show here. Other than that, the screens are big, the seats are comfortable and as usual the drinks and popcorn are extremely expensive.

First off, you can't buy tickets online if you don't have an Australian credit card, nor can you…read morebuy them over the phone. So for anyone visiting, I recommend you find another theatre and give them your money instead. Movie tickets are expensive, and concessions are ridiculously expensive. And it was total chaos when we were there - both ice machines were out of ice and it was hard to find anyone to help (and it was 35 outside). Lines were long to pay. Popcorn is boxed up in advance so you're not getting fresh stuff. Sweet only comes in one size, there's no option to mix sweet & salty, and no butter. The theatre seems new and the "Xtreme Screen" was big with excellent sound. The seats are very wide and recline with controls similar to an airplane seat. The bathrooms are far too small for a theatre of this size.

The building's design is slightly outdated but doesn't stop the mounds of people within it. When you enter, the walls on either side colorfully display the numbers 1-10 in a show reel font. There is occasionally a stall along this walkway offering some sort of activity for children. The only reasons you would enter this building is to watch a movie, eat, go to the pokies or use the atm machine. The center space is very large which is necessary as it does get thoroughly packed on Friday-Sunday nights. The second level of this building is devoted to village cinemas.

What I love about this place is the options for food, drink, coffee, etc before and after the movie. With the nearby restaurants and cafes, you can catch up with friends, even on a weeknight, which can be hard at other cinema venues. The cinemas themselves are okay. Slightly dated, but the theaters are big, lots of seats, and ample leg room. The screens are big, and the sound is great. I have never left thinking anything negative about the cinemas (only some of the movies I'm forced to see by my husband!).

Robert Blackwood plays host to a variety of performances and events, from the Victorian Schools Bands Festival, to Monash University Graduation ceremonies, to Grimethorpe Brass Band's Melbourne stop on their tour, to MSO concerts, to opera, to school speech nights... The list goes on. It's got a large capacity, which can make undersold concerts look a bit empty (and sad) and the upper level is so steep gives me the willies (and I'm not usually afraid of heights). Well worth a look, though, the concerts sound fantastic. That's all you need, really.

The 'strip' is a few hundred meters long with an abundance of small cafes and restaurants lining both sides of the street. There are strong Asian influences in this area, so naturally majority of the restaurants are of an Asian cuisine. That said, there are still plenty of western cafes and restaurants too. The strip is located in front of Village Cinema's Century City Walk, making it a perfect destination for pre/post movie meal. The strip is constantly buzzing with people, walking around gazing into shop windows or going in/out of restaurants. There's always people around- even at midnight on a weekday, there are still groups of friends seen dining alfresco on the strip. There is parking available on the strip, but spots are hard to find during dinnertime. The parking spots here are 1Hour, and ticket inspectors are often seen in the area. Most people coming for dinner chose to park in the Multiplex- a multi level car park just behind Kingsway. If you've never been to Glen Waverley before, I highly suggest trying out some of the restaurants here.

The thing with the Palace Cinema groups is that they tend to have a pretty decent range of movies, that sort of drift between the mainstream and the independent. The reason I came here was simply to check out a cinema that I hadn't yet visited, and it was quite nice. You get more of a feel of an old fashioned cinema than those modern multiplexes. However, they have given the cinema a bit of a makeover meaning that there are a few more screens that there was originally.

Anyway back to the cinema.....it's a lovely restored art deco building. The velour seats are plush and comfy, the cafe serves hot drinks, alcohol and scrumptious cakes including panetone. Another plus is that the international film festivals are all shown here - Italian, French, British, Israeli, German. If you love films, become a Palace member & you'll be able to experience the films shown here at a discount as well as attending advance screenings and special events.

The cinema is newly renovated…read moreand I use to think I would never go to Eastland to watch a movie ..but it's now my go-to cinema! Great to see lots of upgrades with Eastland.
