a car at a gas station
    John M.

Wawa has certainly expanded its presence throughout Florida and that is certainly good news for Floridians, but for Floridians who relocated here from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, it was bringing a piece of home down here to the Sunshine State. Wawa is so much more than a simple gas station. Yes, it features a multitude of gas pumps offering competitive prices and I applaud them for offering air for your tires from an air pump that does not require a payment. Should be common sense, but most gas stations have decided that they can generate a few more dollars by charging people to put air in their tires. Wawa goes above and beyond in customer service by letting people get air without a surcharge. But for me and I would hazard a guess that endears Wawa to most of us is the food that they offer, mostly their subs (what they call hoagies due to their original locations). These subs, er, hoagies are freshly made 24/7 and many, myself included, have ended an evening festivities at a Wawa grabbing an end of the night snack in the form of one of their subs, hoagies, or whatever you want to call them. They have both hot and cold sub/hoagie things, as well as other foods like breakfast sandwiches, bagels, bowls, etc. I also have always liked their pretzels, available at the cash registers. Oh, speaking of their food, keep an eye out for Hoagiefest, where they offer any sub st a discounted price. Truly a good deal. So, yes, I recommend Wawa. I would almost climb a mountain to scream its praises for the four winds to carry to the far planets of this world (perhaps even going so far as to reach my home state of New Jersey). Check them out, you will be a convert.

This is the plain burger when you add all the free ingredients.

I know there is a worker shortage and all, but just got a big order and it wrong all kind of ways. First off, no quinoa to make the brisket bowl and they waited until we checked in then asked do we want rice or mashed potatoes. Then, only got one kids meal, not two, so we were waiting while they made that. Then got home and the bowl was actually not a brisket bowl, and instead was a black bean bowl with spicy stuff in it. So I paid like three dollars extra for the brisket, but I did not get any brisket. Tried to call and was on hold a while, then the system hung up, then called again, and on hold a while and person answered and hung up, them called again and so much on hold, and that time stayed connected and they gave me a refund. What a bummer. The whole reason I did WaWa was that they have all these brisket items that are new. Gonna try again but maybe try for brisket mac n cheese, which is brisket on top of mac n cheese. Anyway, WaWa is good for food, but I would definitely say that you should only order one item and then definitely open it and poke around with a fork and make sure that you actually got what you ordered, instead of it got mixed up with someone else's order. A big order (7 things) was way too complicated. So... The food: The plain burger with all the free fixings (that are not spicy) was amazing. I think the sweet peppers did it. Also got sweet pepper cherry sauce, which looks gross in the pic and was super drippy but tasted great. The plain burger with bacon looked amazing. Child that ordered that was angry that he did not get a kids meal although he had picked burger and fries. He ate all of it, though. Lol Kids meals were ok. I got them for little kids. They are halves of subs and have a little and are better for older kids. I would say 5 and up. For little kids the shredded lettuce can be messy. Chicken penne was not so exciting. The Alfredo sauce was definitely flour based. It has cooked pasta and chicken and steamed cherry tomatoes served on a bed of fresh spinach. There is no way to customize with fancy stuff, but if you get nacho chips, you can order sauces for those in a cup on the side and so can customize anything that way. It is an expensive way to customize, but when I've eaten at WaWa in a group, it's a good way to get lots of sauce for all the dishes. The brisket bowl... I think they got my order mixed up with a vegetarian because I got a black bean bowl with no brisket. It also had fried pickles in it, and think I had maybe ordered pickles, but definitely did not have an option for fried, so I think I got someone else's fancy order. What a bummer. It tasted good, but had got cold by the time I got through on phone to find out do I have to exchange or show it. By the way, all the WaWas are great for travel and quarantining. You can order on the app and it's like 10 min until pickup and they do curbside. Great for getting a half gallon of milk and simple groceries with no minimum order. And, for locations with outdoor seating (this one has outdoor seating), which is good for stopping for lunch while on the road because can order and then get the food and eat outside. Because this is in Gainesville (I think) they have paper compostable bowls and burger clamshells. This did not do well with the alfredo sauce and drippiness of the chicken dish, like I didn't feel it was great for leftovers overnight. Fine to get home though.

They have the best quick subs in town. You can order the sub via their app and it will be ready to go when you get there. It's a fantastic value for $5.

So yeah, expectations were not exactly low. I pulled up and kept it simple. Cheeseburger, fries, large iced tea. No need to get cute when you're dealing with a place that's been doing one thing longer than most people have had careers. Let's start with the burger, because wow. This thing absolutely delivers. Cooked to order, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and hits that sweet spot where you take a bite and immediately understand why people won't shut up about it. Five out of five, no notes, no complaints. This is the kind of burger that makes you question every overpriced, overbuilt "gourmet" burger you've ever had. This is how it's supposed to be done. And then... the fries showed up. Hot? Yes. Fresh? Seemed like it. But somehow they pulled off the impressive trick of being both hot and soggy at the same time. It's like they skipped the part where fries are supposed to have texture. Total letdown, especially sitting next to a burger that's basically winning awards in my head. The iced tea did its job. No drama there. So here's where I land. The burger alone is worth the trip. It lives up to the legend, no exaggeration. But those fries dragged the whole experience down just enough to knock it to four stars. Mac's is this close to perfection. Fix the fries, and we're not even having a conversation. Right now, it's a legendary burger with a side of "what happened here?"

I think I waited about ten minutes, before my food was sitting in front of me. My thin, hot ranch fries begging for ketchup, flanked a tall chicken sandwich that could only be eaten using a napkin wrap! Wow, what a first bite!! Crunchy, hot and delicious! Just as I am getting into the bulk of my lunch, about 20 people ramped into the place! Boy was I happy I got here when I did! This time I got a kraut dog (I didn't share). I wanted all of that warm tangy deliciousness to myself! I also tried their smash burger. Yes, yes, everyone has their signature burger...but folks...I'm going to say something here that speaks to only the burger aficionados out there...y'all know who you are. My people. The person that goes to a fancy restaurant and while everyone else is ordering the shrimp or ribs or a steak and you're ordering a burger. You know who you are and I'm one of you. This burger literally BLEW my mind. I've tried other smash burgers, but this one was actually executed PERFECTLY. What is the difference? A true "smash" burger is done just that way on the grill so that every crack, every crevice on that grill gets crispy and delicious. And the bread they use here? Soft and pillowy with just the right amount of give and chew. They literally toast the inside of EVERY bun! And not that little tiny throw onto the grill for a second or two...that nice hard grill that makes the butter hard crisp the bread so you get that crunch inside with the nice pillow outside. Shred the lettuce so it's on every bite and not falling out before you take those bites. Perfection. Added some Big Mill's sauce and wow. Just plain yellow American cheese is fine with me. I'm no cheese snob. Next time? I'm definitely enjoying a double. Just wanted to try the entire kraut dog for myself. Worth it. That grill crisped bun on the dog was soooo good. I want it on a double smashburger next time! The staff comes and checks with you and brings you your food when ready. Asks if everything was okay and if you need any sauces or utensils. That is so surprising every time to me. Well worth every single penny I've spent here. The attention to exact details and the comfort and hominess this place exudes along with the selection of awesome 60s and early 70s music (which is exactly from my era) they play is the reason we'll keep coming back over and over again. It's also why this little place is packed on a miserable Sunday afternoon. I'm so glad I went here at the behest of my hubby or I would've missed out on my new favorite burger place!

Located in midtown, this appears to a fast casual place that caters towards college students. They serve "Greek" street food, salads, quesadillas, burgers, and more. The food is relatively inexpensive. Service is fine, actually the people working there are friendly. Food is made to order and comes out quickly. There is some seating available inside (it's limited) but there are plenty of tables in the hall. I ordered the Street Chicken Souvlaki which included grilled chicken with tomato, onion, fries inside a pita, topped with ketchup and mustard. This was a very large portion. The pita was good, but pretty much fell apart the second I picked it up. While I liked the chicken, it was over seasoned and I didn't care for the "sauced" quality of it. I'm not sure if they marinated it or tossed it in some sauce, but it was too much. The fries were decent, but not super crispy. I felt that they were not necessarily and a little over-the-top. The tomato was fresh and but the red onion slices were very thick. The mustard and ketchup didn't work with the seasonings on the chicken. The dish was just all over the place and I couldn't even finish half of it before I started feeling sick. I ordered a side of onion rings as well. This was a large order and the size was great. But these onion rings were over-battered and were fresh, but not crispy at all. I bit into one and ended up pulling out the whole onion rings. Not good. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience. The food was so heavy and overly salted I couldn't even eat half of it. I ended up giving it to a homeless person on the way out. The food left my stomach in shambles the rest of the day. Service is fine. But the food is not desirable. It is safe to say I will not be returning, which is unfortunate.

Entering, the place is nice... simple counter service location with seating both inside and out, though the outside seating is pretty close to Archer Road, so not that great. Too much noise from the road to really be enjoyable, sadly. I went for a slider with fries... just wanted to get a taste and not eat too much. The heat level was fair, and for the most part the sandwich was tasty. The fries were also good crinkle cuts. The only complaint I have was that the sandwich could have used some more coleslaw. This is a small national chain, so I do expect quality and customer service to be on par with the rest of the chains, and that is what I got. The product is fair, but nothing really excellent about it. I know of locally owned places that I would rather go to, but I suppose that if I were running around on Archer road and had a hankering for a hot chicken sandwich like this I would be inclined to return.

Just about everything was cold and the chicken sandwich was incorrect, just like it was this time. Why am I paying for cheese and/or bacon on a sandwich but never getting it? Last time, cheese but no bacon...this time, no cheese or extra mayo. (Which they should actually put honey mustard as an option but they don't--if so many people like to dip their chicken strips in it, why not option it as an add-on to your sandwich??) Worst of all, no one has bothered to clean all the greasy fingerprints off the doors as you come in...hard to find a clean table as well. What does the nighttime crew DO before they leave? Just leave everything disgusting for the opening crew? That doesn't make good sense at all! Management needs to make either one or the other do some cleaning BEFORE opening for business the next day! Seriously!! How hard is it to wipe down some table tops and benches? 10 minutes of work goes a looooong way towards good impressions. Also, instead of mopping and sweeping while customers are trying to sit and eat...let's think about doing that BEFORE or AFTER they're in the building. Who wants air from the floor blowing God knows what into their faces or food?? Thank you to whoever the man was who directed both fans into my face and food. It'll be another long while before I come back again. While yes, the food TASTES good, my fries were quickly cold from the blowing fan on me and who knows what was being directed onto them from the floor. Again, no cheese on my sandwich, although AGAIN, I paid for something I did not get. Are the employees just not awake this time of day when they're just starting their shift?
