Wawa has certainly expanded its presence throughout Florida and that is certainly good news for Floridians, but for Floridians who relocated here from eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, it was bringing a piece of home down here to the Sunshine State. This particular location is in the growing SODO area, name for being south of downtown Orlando. It is on the corner of South Orange Avenue and Pineloch. Wawa is so much more than a simple gas station. Yes, it features a multitude of gas pumps offering competitive prices and I applaud them for offering air for your tires from an air pump that does not require a payment. Should be common sense, but most gas stations have decided that they can generate a few more dollars by charging people to put air in their tires. Wawa goes above and beyond in customer service by letting people get air without a surcharge. But for me and I would hazard a guess that endears Wawa to most of us is the food that they offer, mostly their subs (what they call hoagies due to their original locations). These subs, er, hoagies are freshly made 24/7 and many, myself included, have ended an evening festivities at a Wawa grabbing an end of the night snack in the form of one of their subs, hoagies, or whatever you want to call them. They have both hot and cold sub/hoagie things, as well as other foods like breakfast sandwiches, bagels, bowls, etc. I also have always liked their pretzels, available at the cash registers. Oh, speaking of their food, keep an eye out for Hoagiefest, where they offer any sub st a discounted price. Truly a good deal. So, yes, I recommend Wawa. I would almost climb a mountain to scream its praises for the four winds to carry to the far planets of this world (perhaps even going so far as to reach my home state of New Jersey). I visited Wawa this morning for breakfast and ordered a sandwich and a latte. While the food is always delicious it's common that there is no staff at the drink station and often requires someone to be pulled from the food line or store to prepare the drink taking a good deal of time. This morning I was pleasantly surprised to order my drink and have it handed to me almost immediately by a very friendly and delightful lady- I think her name was Aubrun. The drink was excellent and the service was even better. I didn't feel like I was inconveniencing anyone because I ordered the latte. She shared with me that she worked at StarBucks if that helps identify her. Please recognize her as an exemplary member of your team who goes above and beyond, is efficient and with her friendliness could make anyone's day bright. read more

I will bypass other gas stations to go to a Wawa, that's the seriousness of it. This one is no exception and since it's now the closest one to us, I've been here several times already. They have a semi difficult parking lot, only because I need to make a left getting back out of it, and that means crossing four lanes of high traffic road. Not earth shattering though. Came here to get a smoothie and a frozen caramel double shot at 11pm. The "manager" Gina had the worst attitude I've ever encountered at a Wawa. She made the caramel double shot but it tasted like it had no caramel and it was melted before I even got out of the store as if is was left over from another order. My husband brought it back into the store and asked to speak to a manager and it was this Gina lady that had made the drinks. She was raising her voice at my husband asking if he wants her to make it again with an attitude. If she's the manger they really need to reevaluate their methods of hiring managers. read more

It's generally cleaned inside, and gas prices are fair for the area. The parking lot can be pretty chaotic, as this is a very busy location. Sometimes it's a bit of a challenge getting in and out. We dashed in, got a couple of Freestyle Fountain sodas; and, were on our way. Wawa was running a promotion for any size fountain drink for $1, but we like the insulated "polar" cup, so we settled on just 33 ounces. Still a great deal; and, no condensation to contend with in the car. The store is large, the parking ample, there is easy access at the traffic signal; and, just south of the light. Maybe it's just this location but as far as the sandwiches and drinks made by the touch screens, it's usually wrong. I think I've ordered from there 4 or 5 times, and out of half of those the order was wrong. I ordered a caramel cheesecake shake and ended up with pumpkin. Another time my husband ordered a sandwich but all of the toppings were missing and he was greeted with a less than pleasant employee when he brought it to their attention. WaWa For Fast Food and Quick Service Since a new WaWa is under construction in Melbourne, Florida, not far from where I live, I decided to check out the eatery elsewhere. I had heard a lot of good things about the company and I was curious. This was my first visit to a WaWa eatery. Since there are many located in Orlando, I decided on my next trip to Orlando to visit one. Yesterday, we were at Orlando Regional Medical Center. We chose the WaWa, Holden Heights, South Orange. The restaurant was about a five minutes drive away. We easily found a parking space in their private lot. The eatery was busy although it was 2:00pm. I walked around the selection of food items on display and was impressed not only with the freshness and variety of food, but how clean the eatery was. There was a big selection of fountain and refrigerated soft drinks including Caffeine Free Diet Sod and lemonades. Off to the other side of the kitchen area were Smoothies, Frozen Cappuccino, Lattes, Hot chocolate, Milkshakes, Furricanes and Coffee. I perused the menu conveniently posted on a floor stand, quickly deciding on the Chicken Quesadilla, $4.49. My husband decided on the Meatball Sandwich. Orders are placed on a tablet which was easy to use. We completed our order without any problem. I had to chose the two cheeses that I wanted and I added Avocado and Sour Cream, $.25 to my order. My husband declined an extra slice of cheese but requested that the sandwich be toasted. We took our receipt over to the Pick Up Counter. There we chatted with two young men who informed us that we could pre-pay for our meal at the register to save time. We decided to pay afterwards since there were only a couple of people waiting for their orders. Within minutes our order was ready. I was surprised to find bottles of wine available for purchase near the register, $11.99. My first disappointment was that we had to eat outside. This is Orlando, mid-day in the summertime and it was in the low 90s at the time. I was not expecting this. We chose one of the empty tables available and ate our meal. My Chicken Quesadilla was a little too soft for my liking but it tasted good especially with the packet of rich sour cream that I added to it. It was cut into pieces but still a little messy to eat. My husband enjoyed his meatball sandwich, which came with a slice of melted cheese. He wished that his meatballs were less soft. We were both satisfied with the taste of our meals and felt full after finishing eating. The lunch menu at WaWa is surprisingly varied. Choose from a variety of Hoagies and Sandwiches, Three kinds of Quesadillas, a variety of Paninis, Deep Dish Focaccia Pizza, several varieties, Chicken Strips and numerous Soups, Sides and Bowls. There are also prepared ahead of time choices that are always available such as cut up fresh fruit selections, fresh-looking salads and 5 Wraps - even a Bagel Melt at the register. Some of the salad choices, $4.49-$4.99 are Chicken Caesar, Turkey BLT, Chef, Garden and Thai Style Chicken Mango. The Chocolate Chip Cookies, $.99 and Stuffed Pretzels. $1.69 looked tempting.
