I didn't come here to shop; I came here to sell my collection of music CDs that I had collected between 1982 and 1999. I hadn't even played a CD since about 2010, so it was finally the time to rid myself of the few hundred CDs that had been in storage for all of these years. Wuxtry Records is a quirky looking music store that looked like it specialized in selling used CDs and vinyl records. I had called the store asking one of the employees about them buying my CD collection, but he couldn't commit to anything until he saw the condition of the CDs and their genres. He explained that he would not buy CDs if they already had enough inventory for that title, but would consider buying rock CDs. I had a lot of those! Parking was easy on the weekday that I went, and I didn't have any trouble finding a space in the free parking lot that is shared by all of the retail stores in the shopping center. I brought in about 200 CDs to the front counter and was told to come back in about an hour while they went through all of the CDs and determined which ones they were going to buy. During my wait, I just browsed in the store. There were lots of CD titles and groups that I have never heard of, and lots of familiar ones too, and they all looked in great condition. And there was a lot of quirkiness! In the end, there were about 40 CDs that I was not able to sell to Wuxtry Records. This was fair to me and was a good experience. I didn't receive anywhere near the money that I spent to get these CDs, but my goal was to get something out of the CDs that I knew I wasn't every going to play again. read more

My favorite record store in ATL by far. As a CD collector, I seek out places that have good pricing, and I can always count on wuxtry for that. The majority of their CDs are used and range from 3 - 10 dollars, and they have a pretty good selection as well. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the vibe of the store itself is great as well. (Also, bonus points for their adorable puppy Podushka, she's a sweatheart.) read more

I decided to take a Sunday drive and was pleasantly surprised to find my 5th record store in Metro Atlanta. Wuxtry Records on N.Decatur Rd was awesome. I loved the old school vibe upon entering. The store layout was nice and it wasn't too crowded, so I could relax while sifting through rows of albums. Personally, I was impressed with the jazz section, where I found 2 sealed reasonably priced albums. I also found quite a few $5 used bargains in the jazz and R&B section for good measure. In closing, I was impressed with the customer service and great inventory at Wuxtry Records. I visited this holiday season to grab a few records for a gift and the staff were helpful in finding what I was looking for. The store has much to offer but it can definitely get a little crowded as it's kind of tight in there. I visited a few other places who sell records but they were the best by far! Quick Sunday trip to Decatur, well worth the time spent browsing through a solid assortment of hard to find albums. The fellas running the show were helpful and knowledgeable about availability and music in general. Found "Second Helping", Tribe Called Quest, and Billy Strings, happy camper. Offer to special order Primus and Puscifer. We will be shopping here in the future. Layout of store was consise and easy to follow. Prices were very fair and a great value overall. read more

My go to neighborhood record store. What one would expect from a record store, a cozy, friendly shop. The selection is good considering the size of the store, I seem to find at least one used gem every time I go in and the staff is nice enough, but not in your face. The prices may be a tad high, but I know rent isn't cheap in the area and will pay a couple bucks to keep them around. read more

I went to high school less than a mile away from Wuxtry for 4 years and never gave it a second look. Last week I was getting some film developed at the Camera Doctor a few doors down and I had some time to kill ... So I went into Wuxtry. It's just like you would imagine an old record store to be; dark, crammed, and the stale smell of vinyl in the air. They have a DIVERSE vinyl collection and prices aren't too bad, comparable to other stores in the area. Some genres are lacking (i.e. hip-hop, country, DUB, etc) while others are thriving. The dollar bins out front can be a gold mine. I scored Teddy Pendergrass' debut album and John Denver's greatest hits in practically mint condition all for $2.14. So don't hesitant to look over those crates. Also there are $1 CDs. The man at the counter was pleasant at checkout, didn't have much interaction with him besides that. You can listen BEFORE YOU BUY (major plus). They also buy vinyl as well, so if you're looking to sale check them out. read more

For all us music geeks, there's a handful of places that we all go to in Atlanta... Wuxtry, Criminal, Wax'n'Fax, Decatur CD, and the Book Nook... You may as well add Earwax (for hip-hop) and Fantasyland (if they're still around) to that list.... Some of us go rummaging for old 12-inches for our turntable, while others scour the used CD bins for some great bargains. Some are looking for the limited edition, collector's item from a favorite indie band, while others enjoy the ritual of pulling out an album that's got us curious, looking over the artwork and liner notes, and getting a chance to play the disc before buying it... Part of the fun is the discovery of something new, something fresh, before it eventually blows up. (That's the music geek in me). Over the past several years, the rise of digital music has killed music retailers, and I'll be the first to admit, I'm more likely to sample and download an album from the comfort my laptop, rather than paying more at a retailer... With that being said, if independent retailers could keep their prices competitive, I think that most of us would rather give our dough to them, rather than to Steve Jobs. The pluses about Wuxtry: --Solid collection of used CDs, often anywhere from $4-$7 bucks. Also, its not filled mostly with crap that's been sitting there since 1991 - there's actually some very good albums in there. --Good selection of "geek" genres: indie, jazz, blues, old school stuff, new school obscure stuff... Namely anything non Top 40. --Just "okay" when it comes to hip-hip, bluegrass, country... But then again, their demographic is college kids, and ex-hippies and dopesmokers in Decatur... This place has seen me go from punk rocker, to a college DJ, and now, on my way to being an old fart. When I worked at a record shop in the Midwest in the 80's, I had a couple of mint condition promotional posters for R.E.M.'s "Fables of the Reconstruction" album. This is one of the only things I ever regret throwing out. On Ebay they would sell for big bucks today. Or they'd be right at home here at Wuxtry Decatur. Putting aside the inventory, this place has unmatched ambience. Wuxtry operates out of a small, narrow space in a convenient strip mall near Emory U. The owners maintains a busy decor of promo posters of 1970s and early 1980s bands, and similar swag which look like they've been around since the 1970s and early 1980s. For example, a life-size cardboard stand-up of Debbie Harry from the Blondie "Plastic Letters" album (1977). Probably have had it since the album came out. Without being a head shop, Wuxtry best preserves the shopping experience in an independent retail record store serving the throngs of teenage baby boomer consumers that propelled album sales of the era into the tens of billions of dollars. Wuxtry carries a low to medium volume of used CDs in bins organized by letter that could use some culling. The CD booklets are kept in worn plastic sheaths that have probably been used since CDs were invented, and now smell--well, plasticky. The disks themselves are kept behind the counter and matched at time of purchase. Wuxtry carries a specialized, targeted selection of new CDs and some boxed sets. Wuxtry's considerable vinyl album inventory suits buyers wanting classic (including 80's MTV-era) indie rock and those with other specialized tastes. read more

I have been coming to this record store off and on since 1996. The staff is always very helpful and puts up my show posters (so they're also down for supporting the local music scene). The prices are very reasonable considering the grade of records they carry. There is a listening station so you can sample your goods prior to purchase. THAT'S A BIG PLUS FOR ME! For a gig once I needed to stock up on some male vocal swing & big band swing and they guided to some gems at a good price. Now for the digging! There is a wide variety of music in the store, however I normally spend most of my time in the small back room. This is were you'll find the following: Funk / Soul: Large section of used LP's in good cond and again priced well. Some 12" singles are also mixed in. The selection is nice and deep. ENJOY! Disco: Maybe 2 rows of Disco, mostly LP's, but I can usually walk out with 1-3 Disco 12" singles as well. Reggae / Rocksteady / Ska / Dub: There is a small section that seems like it has grown in the past 4 years from 1 row to 3 rows now think. Most of what you'll find are NEW sealed reissues and compilations, but there are also some used 12" singles & LP's mixed in. Sometimes there is even a 10" & 7", but those are rare and usually promo items (not that that really matter). There is also a small African, SOCA and Calypso section. DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING SEALED. **Seems like there is a single row beside that, that may be divided up into Latin/ Brazilian I don't exactly recall. I have found some good 70's Latin LP's out of there. Jazz: I'm not a big Jazz head but I do love a certain Soul Jazz sound that started around 1969 and still lives on today. There is some of that in there, as well as, any other kind of Jazz you could possibly be into. I usually only skim the surface of the Jazz choosing the floor bin with the newly received records. I usually find a couple of gems in there and if time permits I dig into the wall. It's ALOT Jazz!!! (but it's organized well) Rap / Hip-Hop: Small section...not really that great overall, but I do find a classic in there from time to time. It's worth a look. read more

Wuxtry's been around for a long while and their store is a bit different than your average record shop. We used to drive 30 minutes to get here back when I was 16 to shuffle through the bins of new and used CDs. They have a lot in a very little space here. The decor of this place reminds me a lot of the store featured in High Fidelity. The staff never seems to say much so I don't know that I'd liken them to that crew. It's pretty quiet in here, and most of the info you could want on new releases is written behind the counter on a display board. If you have some time it may be worth it to come scour the used bins of CDs and/or records, depending on which you're looking for. I've found a lot of hidden gems here over the years, but it's kind of luck of the draw. I'd probably shop here before I'd go in a place like Wax n Facts, just because I get better vibes overall. read more

Visited this store for the first time about 2 months ago, early 2021. The owner is very cool, has been around the vinyl/music scene for many years. He showed me his postings of musician obituaries at the door jam, which was truly moving. The collection of used vinyl was interesting and reasonably priced, and the conversation was even better. I don't live in Atlanta, but anticipate recurring visits, and this store will be on my list of must-do stop-ins when I am there. read more

Forgot that they had a $1 table for CDs and I definitely took advantage. Got five CDs for $5.55. Sounds like a Dominos deal but you're actually getting a quality product out of it. Definitely has the feel of a local record store and should be supported. I'm gonna pick up the new Kings of Leon album when it comes out instead of getting it cheaper on iTunes. read more

If you want something a couple of years old they might not have it, but you should have bought it when it was new. I have been to many record shops in Atlanta and this has become my favorite. There are bins of records for a dollar before you walk in. I ended up buying 12 albums at a dollar a pop. Im not talking about just any kind of records but great artist in awesome condition. When you walk in, there are thousands of records to look through. Wuxtry is very organized and make looking for a great vinyl easy. I found a record from 1935 for a dollar. This is probably one of my best finds. Most record stores have records of bad quality with mold and scratches. Not Wuxtry, they take pride in the product they put out. Once again, this has become my favorite place and the prices are the best. Let me add that the staff is nice and knowledgeable. read more

Usually my #1 stop for used vinyl when I come home to visit Atlanta. It has a huge selection, the vinyl's always cleaned well and priced fairly for its condition, and the guys there are nice to boot. Some caveats that prevented a five-star rating: - If you're buying CDs (which I rarely am), the experience can be pretty frustrating. The booklets have been removed from the cases and placed in little slipcases, which (for used albums) are only vaguely sorted within each letter of the alphabet. For me, browsing through the unsorted booklets is just irritating. - If you're looking for anything besides rock, oldies, or jazz, good luck - the selection's not so hot. This store is great in terms of "classic" stuff (probably half of my library was purchased here), but not so much beyond that. - The good stuff gets cleaned out fast. This comes with any busy record store, but the best finds are almost always in the "New Arrivals" crate. Beyond that, it's only occasionally that you'll find sweet stuff. Despite the above criticisms, I still always make sure to come here when I'm nearby, which is more than I can say for any other record store in Atlanta. read more

Just had a weird experience while shopping at Wuxtry for the second time ever (just bought a turntable and am building my LP collection). I entered with my 10 year old son around 4pm today. A man working there was sitting up front by the cash register and a couple was browsing near the front. My son and I headed straight to the back as I knew that's where I wanted to start looking. The man nearly immediately got up from the cash register and came through the back room to the storage room. He didn't ask if we needed help/were looking for anything in particular, etc. A couple of minutes later, he emerged from the storage room and sat down on a seat just outside of the back room where we were. No register or anything for him to do there but sit. Again, he didn't ask if we needed help. I started to feel a little uncomfortable so we came to look up front for a minute. He just sat there and didn't say anything. I felt watched without justification and left. I don't know if he thought we'd steal or damage records, or if he was just worried seeing a kid, or maybe just dense and didn't realize that moving to follow us yet not offering help or saying hi made us feel watched when that wasn't his intent. In any event, I still don't know what to make of it, but have never felt that way in a store in my life. Not going back there again. read more

I had been going to Wuxtry for a while and had been very uneasy every time I went but this is the closest record shop near my home with a decent selection but that often depends on when I go. I have been uneasy because I am often "watched" when I am there. I went recently and decided to not keep going because of the poor or nonexistent service and the racist behavior of both of the guys at the front desk. When we entered as I always do, I went to the jazz section. Less than a minute later one of the guys came to the back and didn't speak to us or ask us if we needed help. My partner and I spoke about a particular album we were looking for and after a l other minute the guy came out the back asking if we were looking for anything from that artist which sounds to me like he was intentionally spying on my partner and I. Minutes later the other guy came by and walked past us without saying excuse me. If you know anything about Wuxtry the spaces are tight. After experiencing such surveillance and dismissive behavior we decided to leave and no longer patronize this store. This is not the first or second time this has happened but as it occurs with most instances of racism I had to give it another shot to see if I might've been overreacting. I was not. I WOULD ENCOURAGE BLACK FOLKS WHO LOVE VINYLS TO SHOP ELSEWHERE. I am done with them and will never step foot in there again. read more

Wuxtry Decatur is a MUST visit Vinyl/CD store in Atlanta. Very reasonable pricing of everything in the store. They have very collectible vinyl on the wall behind the counter, make sure to look up! Have been shopping Wuxty for 20+ years. Owner Mark and Richard are great and will help you dig and find something you are looking for. Deep in Rock and Jazz. I find rare vinyl at Wuxtry all the time. Used CD section full of everything you could want by band. They play the best in-store music of any store ever visited. Have purchased many an in-store play! Worthy of 1-2 hours+, there is so much there to browse. And if you don't see it, ask, they may have it in the back or can order it for you. Wuxtry is an absolute treasure in Atlanta and one of the best Vinyl stores in the U.S. Free parking. And if you are in Athens, GA, definitely go to the store where R.E.M met and worked. read more

This record store would have been a great experience, but what I found when I got home ruined it. I bought 3 records, standard entries into a rock library for the most part. Nothing super rare, but all records that could be considered desirable. 2 Records had small /but major warps and the last one had a massive scratch down side 2. The warps are both on track one, so you cant play that track at all without the needle skipping. I was so pissed because all the records I bought had tape over it so you couldnt check out the condition. That generally means "Hey we checked out this record and it looks VG+ to Mint and we dont want a million people to put their paws on it.", but this was "Hey we saw this respectable title has a huge damn warp in it, we want to charge full used price and get rid of this title and tape it so they dont find out until they get home." So that was major bullsh*t. It wouldnt have been worth it to drive back from Alpharetta and try to haggle with them. lesson learned I suppose. Always insist to look at the condition of the record. Just the fact that they had those out to sell shows you how they treat the business. RULE #1 - IF A RECORD HAS A WARP DONT F'N SELL IT AND CHARGE FULL PRICE BECAUSE IT"S USELESS IF YOU CANT PLAY IT!!!! WARP=DOLLAR BIN. I know what a great record store is and this one really let me down. While I was shopping I was thinking I'd definitely be back, but that changed once I got home and was ready to listen to my purchase. I'd say it was maybe an oversight if it were one record, but three? I've pretty much been to every used (vinyl) record store in ATL. I'm going to stick with my top two favorites Full Moon and Fantasyland. Maybe pepper in Wax n Facts for good measure. They price records by what the quality of the product is, not just by what name is on it. read more

I drove up from South Atlanta to sell some old albums. I loved how the shop was decorated but I have to agree with Max B. Wuxtry had a sad selection of CD's, also the owner was not friendly and was very arrogant. We actually got into a slight disagreement about my albums being manufactured in Germany & Holland (I was stationed there while in the Army). 1. Why would I lie about it? 2. The proof was printed on the back of the albums. No wonder why small record stores are losing major business to big box stores, iTunes and Amazon.com? He has a huge selection of albums, but unless you're a D.J. or a vinyl collector, there's no real reason for music lovers to waste their time here? Why? A very small selection of new or used CD's to choose from. If you want nostalgia this is your place. If you're looking for a large selection of used CD's with friendly, knowledgeable service do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. read more

This is where I buy music. I live closer to Wax'n'Facts and Criminal than I do to Wuxtry but I will only buy music at Wuxtry (unless I'm out of state). I've been going to Wuxtry since I was 18- maybe longer. I've never felt like I was lacking coolness or that my musical tastes were not up to their standards. I've asked for them to order a specific record/ s or CD/s and time and time again they've ordered it AND a couple of others that they thought I might like. Even though I'm one of those customers who may go a few months without going into the store (because I'm too broke to buy music) but they always know me and are friendly and helpful! Wuxtry carries used and new CDs and Vinyl (and I bet they've got some tapes in there, too). They've usually got some kind of sale going on with the stuff that isn't as in demand- now and then you might be able to snag a handful of vinyl for $5.00 even! If you have a minute to stop and talk to one of the employees you'll surely leave with some bands to check out and see if you like. The vibe here isn't super cool fashionable dudes working behind the counter- it's people who LOVE music and have it racing through their veins. If you want to cut through the bullshit that is so key to other local record stores then you should go to Wuxtry. And be sure to check out their Athens location. Very cool store. Great selection and prices on country and folk. Lots of good jazz, soul, and international, as well, all in the back room. Tons of customers in and out during the hour I was there so I imagine the rock inventory (in front) turns over quickly. Most everything I pulled was in VG+ or better condition.
