I've been here once before right when they opened, but have just been maintaining my own brows since. I got sick of trying to pluck them so decided to make an appointment on a whim a couple days ago. Booking online is so easy, and it's one of the biggest draws for me - I haaaate making appointments on the phone. I booked a brow shaping with Moe who was very efficient! I was surprised (and pleased) with how fast she was with getting the waxing bit over. It's definitely my least favourite part. She spent time after the waxing to clean up any strays hairs that may have been missed, which I super appreciate. I have tons of tiny blonde hairs that I always miss when doing my own brows. The process was relatively painless, and I'm really happy with the result. Hopefully doing my brows every day will be much easier now too! read more

I am unfortunately no longer a fan of Waxon. I decided to get my eyebrows done here and regret it deeply. Not only did the girl who did my brows not listen to what I asked for at all, I now have these two red scabs under my eyebrows. I called the front desk and the lady at the front desk (who was lovely by the way and was clearly just trying to help), said it was likely because the wax they used was too hot and offered me an oil to put on my brows. The oil burned my eyebrows and I looked to see the ingredients and it has blood orange and grapefruit extract in it so no wonder it burns. I won't be coming back, I like my skin intact after an eyebrow wax, which is too bad because I liked Waxon. Had the most unprofessional experience today in which I was five minutes late- and the Waxologist fled when I came in so that the front desk attendant could convince me that I was outside of the 7-minute lateness policy with right to refusal. If she had just said that I was late and she was unable to complete my services, it would have been fine. But this felt like gaslighting, manipulative and was incredibly inappropriate. While I've had good service from some individuals at Waxon and mediocre from others, this was a deal breaker for me and I will not be returning. read more

It's hard to have positive feelings towards an experience that brings you pain, but you know what they say, pain is beauty! Or is it beauty is pain? Whatever. I've been lazy with my plucking, and with starting a new job next week I thought I should treat myself to some painful pampering. On recommendation from my girlfriend, I decided to take a chance on a new waxer. I wrote her down as my referral and because I did, she will receive $5 credit on her account! So if you read this review, and decied to go in to give it a try for yourself... tell them I sent ya! :) All the other places I usually go to are not exactly close to where I live. So on a warm, sunny afternoon I walked up to Spring Garden and into Waxon. It was a Tuesday afternoon, possibly not a busy time of day for waxing so I was able to walk in and grab an appointment right then. I loved my waxer! She made me feel so comfortable and was very friendly and super professional. She was very caring and concerned about my pain level. Rubbed tea tree oil on my skin and gave me a little temple massage. I tend to stay red as a beet for a very long time after a waxing so when she offered to powder my skin to reduce the redness I was thrilled! It actually worked! She informed me it was hospital medical grade powder... I questioned what they would need powder for, but shurg, powder me up woman! She also filled in my brows too, which I do on the regular, so I could see the full affect. Reducing my redness and filling my brows in to boot makes me feel like I could run here on my lunch break. I could and get a wax without looking crazy all afternoon at work. I am VERY pleased, and booked my next appointment in 4 weeks to clean up. A clean up is $14 and a wax and shape (initial) is $25. Sounds reasonable to me. Brows are very important to the face, so they HAVE to be on fleek! read more

I'm from Toronto and needed a new waxing place! I've only ever done sugaring for hair removal, but I haven't seen anything like that in Halifax. Apparently there are a bunch of Waxon locations in Toronto as well, which is super cool if you live in both cities because you can buy a package deal and use it at any of their locations. This wax bar is super cute; I really love the whole aesthetic with the yellow and silver, and they seem to have their own line of products which definitely lends to the whole 'boutique' feel of the place. Anyways, I booked online and showed up quite early, maybe twentyish minutes before my appointment, and they were able to take me in earlier as well. The onboarding experience was really quick -- just have to fill out a page about yourself and your skin, and you're in. :) Sometimes it's nerve wracking going to a new place because you're usually looking for a regular service. I was lucky with my first pick this time around. The Brazilian I got was really well done. My waxologist was super friendly and you could tell she was amazing at her job. Genetics blessed me with a full head of luscious, soft hair. Unfortunately, I was also "blessed" with more body hair than I'd care to have. Enter the joy of waxing. Yes, I get my back waxed. Yes, it hurts. Yes, every time. Yes, really. Yes, I'm willing to pay for it. Okay, about the paying - I hadn't done it in years because it was so expensive but a friend commented that the prices here were good and that they were most likely pretty good at their jobs. Which makes sense - when all you do is waxing, you probably get pretty good. So in preparation for the summer, I made my first visit. The staff are very friendly and professional. Prices are really good. The pain is real. But there's not much they can do about that. All part of the process. Obviously, my experience won't be the same as everyone's but they do offer a range of services (including threading now) for whatever your body hair removal needs are. Scheduling is very easy - whether you're doing it in person or online. They also do make an effort to confirm your appointment; usually with an email and/or phone call a few days in advance. read more

First off - LOVE the booking online service. Fast, easy, and ready choice of both time and waxer. I hate calling anywhere, ever, so a good online site is a huge bonus for me. Since I had no idea who any of the waxers were I had to choose from, I came to Yelp. Saw someone named "Moe" (a lady, yes) and when you book her full name is Moraigh. I hope I've spelled that right. The facility is very modern and exceptionally clean, which put my wax-newbie and nurse jitters to rest right off the bat. All the staff I met were extremely friendly and inviting. I've never had a Brazilian before but Moe was awesome. We joked and talked the whole time and it was relaxing and quite tolerable. The pain was not what I was expecting. It's more of a "shock" jump than actual *pain*. What pain there is fades quickly. The hardest part I think was sitting frog-legged through the procedure, but Moe was good about letting me taking quick rests to stretch and relax. I went in for threading and brow tinting with Gita. I usually have my brows done at Bombay Brow Bar in Vancouver but since moving to Halifax, I needed to find a new place. I have very sparse brows and so I prefer threading to just "clean them up". Overall my experience was ok. The location is central and the staff welcoming. Everyone was very nice overall. Facilities were clean. However, I didn't love my brows after. The tinting was fine but the threading was a bit too extreme. She took a lot off and my brows were very thin afterwards. I am now having to use a lot of make-up to give my brows a fuller look. This was a bit frustrating since I told her I didn't like thin brows and to keep a fuller look/just clean them up. I will say she gave them good shape but I would have preferred she listened to me more. read more

Hit up Waxon thanks to the recommendation of a friend who had been to their Toronto location. The storefront was clean and receptionists kind, informative, and very helpful. They have various merchandize available to purchase...they smell AMAZING. My appointment began right on time. I had my eyebrows done first, which was performed quickly and expertly with minimal discomfort. Next up, I had my lower legs done - something I had only done myself. I was amazed at how fast Shelley worked! At the last minute, she said she had time to give me a classic bikini wax; something I has never done and was hesitant about. Despite not being trimmed to the proper length for waxing (the length of a grain of rice was her suggestion), it wasn't too bad...certainly a lot better than what I anticipated. The only part that was painful was across the top, which is probably the area it was thickest (I'm luckily not very hairy). Shelley used three waxes during my appointment: one designed for the face, a soft wax with strips, and a hard wax. Overall I was quite pleased with the experience. I had to remove a star for two reasons: the initial appointment I had booked had been canceled without any notice to me... They were just opening and working out kinks, so I can understand it a little more than if it was an established wax-bar. The second reason is to do with the amount of wax left on my legs. It was EVERYWHERE... I showed my friend who is trained in waxing (Esthetician?? I can't spell it haha) and she was wide eyed at how much was left behind. My bikini had a liiiiiittle bit, but that's to be expected. It took a shower and a little extra scrubbing to get it all off...not a big deal. I came here a few times, yet my last experience wasn't that great. I ran about 5 mins late to my appointment due to bad road conditions and trying to find a place to park. Only to not being able to be served since I was late. I understand that my apt was only 10 mins but if the weather is bad it would've been nice to be a little more accommodating then to be denied a service. Going forward it would be nice to communicate your late policy to your clients so they do not waste their time trying to make an apt. Life happens and we can't control the weather, you should give your customer's better customer service than this. read more

Recently, for some reason, my skin reacted to the cold wax. The woman waxing my brows was incredibly gentle and skilled - so I am not to blame it on her. I'm not sure what happened - maybe it was the product. My skin is somewhat sensitive, but I never have a problem with the wax products here. I brought the attention to the manager and she was so quick and kind to rectify the issue. She offered some product to soothe the redness, amongst other suggestions and put credit on my account for a future brow wax. Excellent customer service! I am happy to visit again. read more

My treatment was good - the aesthetician I had did a great job and I feel like the results have lasted well. I didn't love the wax product itself that much as I have sensitive skin and it left me red longer than usual and actually kind of hurt but... no pain, no gain?! I would return! read more

The wax I received at first I thought was great, until I realized nothing she waxed was smooth and there is stubby hairs all over the area with lots of patches she missed. Waxing is supposed to leave your skin hair free and smooth and neither occurred when I came home from my appointment, shaving would've resulted in a smoother result. read more

I experienced Waxon yesterday for the first time. I was on Spring Garden on a Monday afternoon and figured I would pop in to make an appointment for the next day, but was pleasantly surprised when the woman working at the front desk told me they could take me in today - in 10 minutes!! I had my eyebrows re-shaped and waxed with Jenna, who was very professional, friendly and welcoming. She also let me know at the end of my session that when I go to pay, I can show the woman at the front desk my student ID card and I will receive a discount. This was definitely an added bonus! My total was $20 (+ tip). I'm super happy with my brows and the service I received here at Waxon - I will definitely be back! THIS COMPANY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS! I booked in advance an appointment and @waxon Halifax for today at 6:30. At around 4pm I received a call canceling it. However, TOMORROW is my WEDDING. I told that to the person who called me and asked if they could accommodate me somehow and she replayed "SORRY WE HAVE OTHER CLIENTS". I asked again if there was anything she could do, since tomorrow is my goddam wedding, and she said "I' sorry"!!!!!!! I understand that things happened, but the fact that they didn't make a SINGLE effort to find a solution to the problem that they created, just canceling a waxing appointment the evening before a girl is getting married just shows a huge lack of compromising with their clients! I use to be a loyal customer to Wax-on, having gone to only them for my waxing needs the last few years. That all changed recently. Employee turn over seems higher than ever -- even for this industry (there always seemed to be new estheticians working there every time I went in for an appointment, especially after the last 2 ladies I saw regularly quit). I don't think the service standard for waxing is the same among all the estheticians? My most recent Brazilian wax there was the most painful one I've ever had before and I've been getting this done for 7+ years -- Rather than removing the waxing strip in one swift motion, she was removing it slowly, inch by inch -- making it 10x more painful. I've never had anyone remove wax strips using that technique before especially on the most sensitive area of your body! I had to correct her technique half way through because I couldn't handle how painful it was. Before that visit, I went to a different person for a Brazilian, which resulted in broken blood vessels because the skin was not held taut as it should. I understand not everyone working there has the same amount of experience, and all waxing estheticians typically have their own preferred technique -- but regardless everyone's technique should result in quick, efficient hair removal with no damage to the skin aside from some redness. I think there needs to be more training to ensure everyone has a pleasant waxing experience regardless of who they are scheduled with. read more

This was my very first experience at wax bar I have visited in Halifax. Getting an appointment was easy. The lady at the counter was very friendly and polite. She took me in 15 minutes early. The salon was very clean and hygienic. They use coconut base wax which is very moisturizing. The salon smelled wonderful with all their in-store lotions and scrubs. They have kept all their products as testers too. My waxologist was nice but not friendly. Maybe she was tired. Usually 8 times out of 10 customer service is very friendly in HRM. But no complaints towards her. She did her job good and that's what matters. It was a quick visit. They also have promotion of spend $60 and get 15$ gift card. Also if someone refers a friend they get 500 points, which can be redeemed later towards their service. Please do let them know I sent you, if you go after reading my review.
