It's 2026 & I've been looking for the right place to do a review on this dr 20 years ago. After all these years I am still wondering what we did wrong during our second visit with him and after my husband's second total knee replacement on the same knee. Dr. Suga just dropped us as a patient, just like that, even saying good luck, take care and all this good stuff before the surgery. After rehab, we tried to make an appointment to see him but he wouldn't speak to us and after a while they wouldn't pick up their phone. I knew he had just opened up his business, & I would've gone there for an explanation but I sort of suspected, till today, that this dr didn't really care for my (spouse)answering all the questions directed to my husband at the time of our first visit. I may have sounded like a domineering wife to him but I knew my husband to be forgetful, especially the trauma he had gone through with his first TNR. I must say I am surprised Dr. Suga is still doing business. He was not there when my husband needed him the most after surgery, not even a phone call to check how he was doing. I do not recommend Dr Suga. He abandoned our 88 yrs old father when he was the most vulnerable following a fall from the ceiling. Dr Suga gave us (daughters) no indication of this termination. In fact, we learned about this when we called his office to follow up. He had his receptionist, "Maria", relay to us that, "He will not speak to you (or your father)". Not only did Dr Suga suddenly ended his treatment, but he couldn't even explain to us what happened. I believe that Dr. Suga didn't like us sharing our thoughts/ideas for our dad's care (eg. Dr stated that our dad was "depressed" and "lazy" when we felt his symptoms could be from a stroke w/speech and gait issues). We suggested an MRI and Dr Suga reluctantly agreed. The results confirmed a Subdural Hematoma. In the end, Dr didn't do LTC forms as he said he would. This would help us get the appropriate services and financial support for our dad's treatment. And Maria said, " Dr Suga will not be filling out the forms ... and he will no longer be (our dad's) PCP". It's been about 6mos since Dr Suga terminated our dad. It's taken us time to start from ground zero while "on the fly" helping our dad get his medical care. Gratefully the new PCP is caring, sharp, professional and welcomes the family as part of the team. We look to a PCP that has our dad's best interest in mind. Unfortunately, Dr Suga did more harm than good. read more

BIG FAT ZERO stars. Do not go to this physician. His office is a disaster zone. Books and papers everywhere. Red flag based on the appearance of his office. No place to sit down because it is a wreck. His diploma was not visible. If you can, go elsewhere!!! Unless that's what you're looking for-a wreck... I totally echo the first posters sentiments. Id give this doctor 10 stars if Yelp would let me. This man really cares about his patients. While in the waiting room talking to other people, they all feel the same way. Dr. Suga is the best PCP i have ever had. EVER. No matter what your ailment, Dr Suga always takes the time to explain whats going on, complete with charts, graphs, and google searches, even when his office hours are well past. The man is opened practically all day on Saturdays and when I asked him why he does it, he says it is because he hates for people to go to the ER over minor symptoms over the weekend. Amazing. He really does try to save you money, in that he recommends all kinds of less costly remedies as a first option and only perscribes meds when he has to. The guy even went so far as to lend me his mobile blood pressure machine so I could check it whenever I wanted. Thankfully, i didnt have any problems with my blood pressure and I know for sure because of this man's generosity. Doctor's like Mr Suga really put the soul in the medical profession. "S" read more

Thanks for always accommodating my scheduling requests! If you need to been as soon as possible they will do their best to get you into their schedule. Friendly staff, great location, lots of free parking, nice facilities (new office actually), comfortable waiting room with a TV. Dr. Suga is really down to earth and practical. Super local style, as is the way he runs his practice. He gets right to the point, gives just the right amount of background information (not too much, not too little). At my first appointment he made me feel like a long time patient. Works great with insurance. Doesn't nickel and dime you like other docs I have been to....I've been charged three times for the same treatment that didn't work the first or second time. Still not healed but I'm not going back only to get charged again for the same treatment. Dr. Suga is nothing like that. 5 stars if we could pay by credit card in office! Beginning with the phone call to make an appointment, the receptionist is AMAZING. She is always very professional and has an empathetic tone and great manner. Upon arrival, parking is ample. The office is very neat and tidy. They had decorated for Halloween during my last visit. It is never overwhelmingly busy. I have been here twice now. And I have been impressed both times. THE DR....Dr. Suga is great. He listened to my issues and did an exam. He then had a conclusion to my issue, which he was very knowledgable. He gave me a great consultation on how to correct the issue. Even brought my husband and kids into the room, to explain that mommy needs some help for the next couple days. If you are looking for a physician that is trying to get you in and out and give you pain meds to help with all your problems this is NOT the Dr for you. Dr. Suga wants to get to the root of your issues, not just cover up the symptoms. read more

He literally uses Google search in front of you when you ask him a question. Not even a credible, academic source! Wouldn't trust what he knows. Also, like other reviewers had mentioned, he has terrible bedside manner. read more

I really like Dr. Suga. He takes the time to explain what's going on with me and helps me understand by making clever analogies. Though he can be long winded at times, I can see that he is passionate about getting his patients to understand their bodies. Many doctors simply write you a prescription and send you on your way. If that's the type of doctor you like than that's fine. However, if you want a better understanding of why you are visiting the doctor in the first place, Dr. Suga is the doctor for you. read more

I saw Dr. Suga today for the first time and this is my summary of my experience.... When calling to make my appointment they scheduled me in fast and the girl gave me excellent directions. When I arrived, she was sweet and there was no wait. She took my vitals and then left me as bait with this doctor. I went in to get treated for chronic foot pain and knee pain that has not disappeared even without ceasing my exercising. As soon as she took me into this room and handed him my file, I noticed that it wasnt quite an exam room. There were only a few machines and one chair surrounded by a million books and other random things junking up what looked like an office that they just threw a chair into. I felt like I was entering an episode of hoarders. He never addressed me by my "preferred name" which the receptionist told him while handing him my paperwork. Not to mention, he never shook my hand, made me feel at home or comfortable what so ever. I left crying because I felt like I wasted time effort and money seeing this man who claimed to be a doctor. He poked around on one knee and one foot, asked a few questions and then made smart comments about my exercising and gave me the worst medical advice I would have ever expected to get. Keep in mind that this pain is excruciating and prolonging more than the normal ache and pain from a tweak or fall. His diagnosis was a slight plantar fasciitis in my foot and something else that he never wrote down or explained to me. He continued by saying that women are more prone to knee problems because they are shaped funny which was a little insulting to me and that people shouldn't try to be something their not by working out or trying to look like "arnold Schwarzenegger or that other woman actress". He continued on to just say that God gave everyone their own body and they should listen to it and use common sense. He wasn't recommending any MRI, ortho appt. Or xray because he thought it was not necessary. His google images and "common sense" theory was sufficient enough for my diagnosis. He seemed sexist and his greatest tip to me was to stay off my feet. He mentioned that he always has people coming in to him complaining of these ailments like their hands hurting from being a cashier and he tells them to switch occupations. Thats not an easy thing to do. Im not on my feet for 12 hours a day but im 22 years old and I should be able to run a few miles a day and be just fine. Obviously there is a deeper issue that he was too lazy to look into and I will never go back to this wack job! Im so surprised to see 5 star ratings on him and only one other person who had the same experience as me. If I could give him negative 5 stars I would do it. Ive never experienced anything like that. I left feeling stupid and degraded almost and that I just cant do things other people can do. His solution for me was absurd and if he expects me to be a vegetable for the rest of my life but not "gain any weight because every lb. Will add 4 lbs. And More stress to my joints" then he has lost his mind. He even pulled up a google image of a mans shape versus a womans and spent more time discussing that then what plantar fasciitis and whatever else he said, even was. Im so sad im not even one step closer to feeling better and that he was no help. More so, im pissed that ill be getting billed for his bullshit! Dr Suga has been the primary care physician for my wife and me since 2012. We appreciate his thorough approach, and his willingness to offer options for our treatment. Same day, or next day appointments have always been available. Yes, sometimes we wait past our appointment times before seeing him, but we understand that, since he has never rushed through any of our sessions. And yes, his office may seem cluttered, but his mind is clear. We recommend him without hesitation. read more

I've had my share of doctors so, rather than go on a referral, I started thumbing through doctors who accept HSMA. I figured, they can't be worse than Crippler, and if they were, its okay because I could go to Crippler and let them "fix" me. Anyway, his location, Aiea, was I guess what really caught my eye. I went in for an initial visit and was very impressed! His staff made me feel right at home and took me in immediately for my height, weight and vitals. From there I was taken in the back to meet him and he is probably the closest to "House" (minus the cane and Vicodin addiction) I have ever seen. He gets to the root of the issues before making any hasty diagnosis. Furthermore, when I terminated my HMSA coverage I thought, "well, back to Crippler," but he actually sat down and negotiated a very reasonable price for me. Dr suga has a complete lack of bedside manners. For males, his assertive and eccentric behavior may be tolerable; but for women, he is less than caring or gentle. My visit felt more like a 30 minute lecture and when I left I was literally traumatized. read more

Waited over 1-hour after my appointment time with no reasons given. Billed me $170 just to renew my prescription, all of which took 3-minutes of the doctors time. Took the prescription to Longs which said it was NOT covered by HMSA. Had to get a new prescription which they again provided no rational or reason for their mistake and for my lost time. The staff, just like the doctor seem to have a is 'negativity' for their patients, especially if you have insurance not of their liking. Will never recommend this doctor to anyone! read more

I switched to Dr. Suga because my former MD required me to come in every three months to refill my RX regardless of the drug. I'm not on narcotics or any serious meds, just routine maintenance drugs that I have taken for years. Dr. Suga will write RXs for one-year's worth of refills for those drugs! He doesn't require you to come in every 90 days unless your condition warrants it. He does give a little lecture if you are overweight, but I understand his opinion on that issue. He wants his patients to do routine lab work before their next appt., which is standard. I find him to be knowledgeable, professional, and caring. He is usually on time and allows plenty of time for each patient. I appreciate that he doesn't rush you! And, I love his staff. They are always so courteous, professional, and pleasant to their patients. I plan on being on the island for another year and he will be my physician until I leave. I would recommend him. read more
