Ms.Gay, the director, always has a positive anecdote at noon when his mom or I pick him up. There are special visitors who come in to give a lesson. For instance, someone from the Audobon came to tell the children about foxes . The school even includes special lessons such as Karate, music and swimming lessons. There are learning centerrs which are switched out periodically so they always seem vibrant. I am not usually a fan of pushing academics in the early years but the children are given the opportunity to write letters, sight read and do simple counting excercises, all in a developmentally appropriate way. The teacher to child ratio is unusually small. Often there are four teachers and no more than fifteen children. This school was chosen after a bad experience at another nursery school in town called Ledgemere. I could see the change in my little grandson immediately after starting at Cape Care.

Instead, I found a brutal, one-size-fits-all system where questioning authority meant punishment. There was nothing personalized or healing about it. You either got in line or were labeled broken. The kids who conformed quickly were rewarded and are still, decades later, defending the place like it's a cult. The school's marketing included slogans about "character," "truth," and "brother's keeper," but it's all surface. The truth is that Hyde used emotional control and public shaming to keep students in line. And they called it growth. I've connected with others from my class through the recent lawsuit. We were all told we were the problem. Turns out the problem was Hyde. If you're a parent, look past the marketing. Ask why so many former students are speaking out. Notice that there are (at the time I've writing this) in addition to all the negative reviews Yelp is showing you, there are also 36 one-star reviews that are hidden because they're "not recommended," and something like 40 more one-star reviews removed because someone flagged them as being 'in violation of Yelp policy'. Long story medium, the overwhelming majority of reviewers here are warning you: do not send your kids to Hyde.

To me, this place felt more like a cult than an educational institution. In my experience, it was an abusive program. I still remember being harshly punished simply because I didn't report another student--someone I didn't even know--for having cigarettes. Even as a teenager, I knew it wasn't my place to police other students, but I was still placed on what they called "2-4." That meant being woken up at dawn and forced to run and work out until I threw up. At one point, they even made me use a sickle to cut grass that nobody would ever use--completely senseless. To top it off, they had us perform staged "presentations" for parents to make it look like the school was helping us. It was manipulative and deeply unsettling. If you truly care about your children, do not send them here.

Her energy is contagious and it's clear she loves what she does. I worked in the industry when I was in my twenties and there were a lot of teachers who showed up because it was their job. Mrs. Hanscome showed me what it looks like when teachers show up because they love teaching and not at all because it's their job. When her students go home in the afternoon, she spends the rest of her day thinking about every interaction she had with them and considers how to keep building from where they're at. She spends her weekends looking for any resources she can bring into the classroom that would help enhance each child's experience. If she has a student who is struggling she turns every stone looking for techniques they can use to ensure the child gets everything they need to be successful in learning and growing. When she's out and about she's constantly seeing things that remind her of her kids and gets excited to tell them what she saw. Mrs. Hanscome is always thinking about her students. She isn't just concerned with how her kids thrive in her class, she's focused on supporting them so they thrive everywhere they are. My son began at LRC as an infant and continued on through preschool. He is now in kindergarten, and attends the after-school program as well. LRC is owner-run, and that owner has been at LRC for many years. Her staff is warm, engaged, creative and patient. There is admittedly turnover, but when that does happen, they manage to maintain consistency for the children and find new staff that fit the strong mold described above. LRC is very thoughtful about its program, keeping it fresh, interesting and age appropriate. They bring in outside educators as well, including movement and dance, music, librarians and, for the older children, "Mad Science." There are themed parties, a cute preschool graduation, and more. It's a happy, vibrant community I feel lucky to have been a part of.

We also value they have never hesitated in sharing their perspective with us about our kids when they thought it was needed or would help. Probably the best indicator is the opinions our kids have of the teachers. If you ask our kids about their teachers you'd find a big smile and genuine excitement.

She was very sweet and attentive to me & made me feel like I was in good hands. She gave me an amazing haircut but ever since I have felt very off about the behavior of the instructors... one instructor by the name Justina was very openly rude to Aurora when she was asking for help and as I am hard of hearing she made me feel very belittled by crouching down to hear me and being in my face a little too close for comfort and shouting. although I am hard of hearing I do not need somebody to yell in my ear. I also noticed the students energy shift as soon as she came over it seemed like a very toxic student-instucor enviorment- Justina came over a few times to check on my haircut but seemed very rude to my stylist & the way she communicated with her was very unpleasant. Again, I love my haircut just not the bad energy from the instructors, I have witnessed this before but most of the instructors have always been very patient and welcoming with me ESPECIALLY the student- except for this time. I'm not sure having them overnight delivered is in the future for me from this company.
