Intended to rent a boat to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday with water skiing and tubing. Reservation process was okay. I had to play phone tag with Buck because apparently he was the only person who was able to complete a reservation despite the (very friendly) reception staff being able to tell me if the boat I wanted was available or not. Did learn from Buck that we could get wake boards, water skis, and tubes for free, but could not reserve them, they would be on a first come, first serve basis. Completed the rental agreement, put down a deposit. All was okay. Called the Friday before the Sunday we were set to rent to confirm where the club was and what time we could pick the boat up. Got the address and was told we could come at 9:00 a.m. I was eager to get there at 9:00 on the dot so we could make sure to get the water skis and tubes my boyfriend really wanted. Pro-Tip: Do not use Apple Maps to get you to the club as it will guide you to a neighborhood a two minute drive from the actual club. Google Maps will get you there just fine. Arrived at 9:00 a.m. to a locked gate with a sign on the front saying "CLOSED SUNDAYS." Called both of the numbers listed on the sign frantically for THIRTY MINUTES, rechecked our rental agreement to verify the date was correct. Finally a gentleman shows up and we ask if he has any idea how to get into the club. He says "Oh yeah, they should have given you this code for the gate!" As we are entering with him, we finally get a call from the boat club (about 9:40 or so?). Sit down with the young girl in the office and put down the $3500.00 damage deposit and begin to fill out some paperwork. She takes us to the boat we had reserved (Regal Commodore), shows us around and asks us to fill out the damage sheet, marking down every scratch, scuff, paint chip, broken item we see (and there were a lot!!) The boat was completely filthy and the toilet had not been cleaned out. It absolutely reeked. When she asked us to start the boat so she could show us how to work it, the boat DID NOT START. She decided it just needed to be charged and plugged it in. 15 minutes later, it still did not start. She asked a man named Bill to help us out but he could not be bothered as he was busy moving boats in and out of the water. She called her boss who got down to the boat club about 20 minutes later. He and his partner tinkered with the boat for another 20 minutes and finally declared that charging circuit was shot. A member of our party asked if there was any other boat available and they asked us if we wanted the pontoon boat. Someone asked if there would be a discount or anything and we were met with a flat no. Apparently the pontoon boat was $50 more than the boat we had rented and they would be so kind as to not charge us the extra money. They were completely unapologetic despite us having sat around for 2 hours at this point, despite us being charged for a full day rental (even though they had eaten 2 hours of our day), despite that the boat they were going to give us would not allow us to do do any water activities that was the main reason for our boat rental, and despite the fact that they had two terrible Yelp reviews and it might make sense to step up their Customer Service game. We agreed to the pontoon because we were all already there with our coolers and ready to go. The positive: The pontoon boat was actually very nice, very clean, had a good sound system you could plug your phone into (if you have the right cables), worked, and did not sink. We ended up having a good time with what remained of the day. (This is why I added a second star) TL;DR: I wouldn't recommend this club. Took my Tige over an hour drive to these guys for gel coat and fiberglass repair 3 weeks ago, to this day, still do not have the estimate after multiple phone calls and talking to many different people, it seems they are not properly run as no one seems to know what is going on here. I have hired Waypoint Marine on 2 separate occasions and both of them had the same result - they tell you one price, but charge you a significantly higher price. In both cases, they were over by 50% of the original bid with NO communication as to why. Additionally, on the first project, it turns out they had no prior experience what I had asked them to do. They never mentioned this. As a result, the installation was flawed and I had to hire a different professional to come in and clean up their mess. read more

dont rent from them!!!!!! they will find any little scratch on the boat when you return it and charge you with full price on replacing that part. This is their scam! The sad thing is that every group renting the boat will have a minor scratch on the same panel and they will charge them for the full panel price without replacing it. Birchard and Agee was recommended to me by my marina. I've only had one experience with them, so take that into consideration as I review. The Good: The mechanic that worked on my boat really seemed to know his stuff. I was having some noises with my outdrive (OMC King Cobra) and it came back to me quiet as could be. He also took the time to show me the damaged parts when I came to pick up the boat. The Bad: Getting phone calls returned and reliable time estimates was challenging. I think there might be a tendency to underestimate how long they will take to get to work on your boat. read more

Where do I start? My son says I got scammed. Not far from the truth. I'll park this here for now in hopes they come back and do clean up the work they did so poorly on my tender. For nearly $6000 one would think they would do a great job of restoring the tender. They didn't. Can't believe they are in business still. I used them years ago. They did a good job for me. Now? Wow. Everyone expects to take their boat in and have it repaired like their car. It just doesn't work that way. These guys repowered my 22 year old Seasport Explorer and every brick wall they hit they jumped right over. One included multiple miss-machined adapter plates from Volvo. That slowed the process down by weeks but they dogged Volvo until a correct one showed up. Everyone who messes with boats knows that every product you install is a custom install. These guys let me help where I could, I installed all of the interior wiring and shaved quite a few hours off the bill. The hours charged for the repower were very fair. The boat runs great and I'm happy. Better to wait a few weeks and get it right than push the techs to hurry up. Tom B. read more

I purchased a used boat (14 years old with about 300 hrs on the motor) for the first time in late summer and I called Waypoint because they are a dealer for Campion. I decided to bring it in because I talked to a guy at Wayport (Jason) that sounded like a real go-getter and I was looking for a company to do business with to help me make the boat nice again and fix some items that needed maintenance in the engine. I must say that I had awesome service and Jason is one of the best service managers I have had in any vehicle purchase. He pretty much knocked it out of the park. He made himself available for questions, always called me back, was proactive about telling me what they were going to do with my boat, and went the extra mile to ensure a new set of interior carpet was delivered right to my house and installed after it came in later than expected. I live a long way away from Waypoint but I would definitely go the extra miles and take it back there to have them handle all of my service needs assuming Jason stays there. He is fantastic. Regarding how well the boat runs now that I have it back, well, it runs like a new boat. I am so happy with the way it runs. read more

My boat is stored with Waypoint in the dry stack storage. As a new boater, I had concerns about storing the boat and how it all works. Waypoint was responsive to my emails and didn't make me feel stupid for asking so many questions. I dropped my boat off on a weekend during off-season hours. They yard attendant was friendly and helpful. He let me leave the boat in a spot that was convenient for me and HE moved it to the spot he wanted it. It's a little thing, but I appreciated it. There is free parking for people using their boats- and there is paid parking nearby for friends that come boating with you. I've talked to other people on the docks (not employees) and they've all been friendly and helpful as well. Seems like other people like storing their boats here as well. The one knock I might have is that they're a little further out from the lakes- but the whole point of having a boat is boating.. so I don't really mind the short commute into Lake Union. read more

It would be hard to imagine a worse experience. We were charged $275 to diagnose an engine noise in a Fiberform. They claimed the noise was worn exhaust flappers. We spent $1700 on a new exhaust system. Turns out the flappers were fine, but the after hiring a new mechanic we found that the noise was a loose flywheel. We asked for a refund of the $275 from Birchard and Agee. Not only did this outfit not refund, they refuse to acknowledge our registered-mail complaint in any way. They simply will not respond. We must now go to the trouble of suing them in Small Claims court. With friends like this, who needs enemies? We bought a 19 foot Fiberform runabout several years ago (2006), to be used as a tender for our retirement project, which is a marine salvage and rescue consultation service. We ran the boat on Allison's engine/outdrive install for about 50 hours, at which time we began hearing a heavy thudding noise coming from the rear of the engine. We had B&A pull the outdrive in order to diagnose the problem. We were adamant to B&A, specifically to Chris Ackerman who did the work on the boat, that the sound was deep, and solid, and sounded like something in the flywheel/coupler area. We came back a week later for Chris's diagnosis, and he announced that he was positive the noise was coming from worn exhaust flappers. These, of course, are little sheet metal plates, installed in the exhaust systems of all or most inboard-outboards, which in theory prevent water from back-flowing up into the engine during a hard backing of the boat, or other conditions. They're generally coated with rubber to keep them quiet, and if that rubber wears away or is eroded, the sound of sheet metal clacking against the insides of the exhaust system can produce an annoying noise. We didn't think this was the case because, for one thing, the exhaust flappers had been installed new about 65-69 hours prior, and the exhaust system had never been overheated or run without water, which can burn off that rubber coating. That meant that there was really no logical reason for the flappers to be making noise. Additionally, it simply didn't sound like that kind of noise to us. It sounded SOLID, not like sheet metal tapping against aluminum. Chris Ackerman was grilled for some time about this discrepancy, but he swore that he had even removed the starter and had pried this way and that way and every possible way on the flywheel, to be absolutely certain the flywheel and/or coupler weren't loose or broken. He was asked about this many times -- at least six; perhaps nine. His answer was the same each time: He was positive that the only sound coming from that area was due to worn out exhaust flappers. We simply didn't buy it, but the diagnosis was on Chris's head, and we had no choice but to believe him. If he was wrong, we were confidant he'd make it right. He was, we thought, a "nice guy". The cost of replacing the worn exhaust flappers was prohibitive, since the outdrive and engine must be pulled to replace these $20 parts on this particular configuration. Even then, exhaust flappers ARE prone to wear and failure, and we didn't want to be stuck replacing them every couple of years. We elected to install a complete, new, through-hull exhaust system. That bypasses the Mercruiser flappers once and for all. Over the next weeks that installation was effected by us at a PARTS cost of $1700 and change. Immediately after installing the new exhaust system, the boat was tested on the launch ramp. Even though the old flappers had been completely bypassed, the exact same, solid clunking was evident from the rear of the engine. Clearly, the problem had not been worn exhaust flappers as Chris Ackerman had so adamantly and insistently diagnosed. Chris advised us that he was not willing to do the work on the boat "because of its age". We didn't even bother to argue, but simply picked up the boat and left. A few days later another mechanic pulled the outdrive and engine. It was discovered that the flappers were in perfect condition. Clearly, Chris Ackerman's diagnosis was as wrong as wrong can get. And as a result of following his diagnosis, we had needlessly expended an additional $1700 in exhaust upgrades. Here's what the new mechanic said in his initial email to us: We had paid Birchard & Agee Marine Services & Drystack, by their own admission, the sum of $275 for 2.5 hours of diagnosis. Obviously Birchard & Agee Marine Services & Drystack DID NOT PERFORM A USEFUL SERVICE. It's cut and dried. We can find no theory with which to explain Chris Ackerman's assertion that the flywheel "wouldn't budge". It was as loose as loose can get without actually falling off, and that's not an "opinion", it's a FACT. On 8-28-09 we wrote an appallingly polite letter to Birchard & Agee Marine Services & Drystack, explaining the situation, and asking for a refund of only $275 -- the amount they charged us for the work they did not s perform. Birchard & Agee Marine Services & Drystack has steadfastly refused to reply to us in any way whatsoever. Had Birchard & Agee Marine Services & Drystack replied to us with reason or logic, or even common human courtesy, and explained their position, as indefensible as it is, we might have been inclined to try to find a way to work with them. The fact that they have simply thrown us under the bus tells us what kind of business they are: the lowest kind. UPDATE 12-20-2010: After nearly two years of trying to forget our losses at the hands of this miserable company, we are suddenly contacted by their "attorney", complaining about this review. read more

I am one of Waypoint's oldest customers. I moved to them when they bought Birchard and Agee, several years ago, which I had used off and on since the 1980's. When Waypoint first opened, they had lots of time and the service was excellent and fast. However, during the 2007 recession, with its enormously harsh impact on recreational boating industry, they lost several employees, but managed to keep the business going. I had some bad experiences with some of their maintenance and techs during that time, none of whom are any longer there, but each time I told Jake about the problems, they always fixed them at no charge, and so I stuck with Waypoint through their "growing pains." Recently, I had my boat in the Wapoint yard for about 11 months, as they worked to diagnose and repair several problems, some of which turned out to be caused by a incorrect prop pitch. Among other things, one of the repairs required an engine valve job, which was done by an outside machine shop. The outside machine shop botched the first valve job, which required a second engine pull, and a second valve job, which caused long delays. So far as I could tell, due to the repeat valve jobs, other diagnostic efforts, and some fine tuning, they pulled the engine at least 4 times, and had the boat in and out of the water about a dozen times. They never charged me for any of that repeat work, not all of which was their fault. They stood behind their work, and took responsibility for the outside shop's errors. They eventually assigned one of their top mechanics to my boat, and he was able to get it all working very well by last Spring. Buck, Jake, and Brendan and several of their techs worked with me to get through a number of difficult issues, and when it was all finished, the bill was quite reasonable, and the boat has never worked better. I am very happy with the result, even though it took awhile. These guys have worked hard since the recession to rebuild their staff with reliable folks, and most of the yard employees have been there now for about 5 years, gaining experience and expertise that now mostly avoids the sorts of problems that past disappointed customers have commented about on Yelp. Waypoint has also increased the range of services they offer. They are often very busy, so you should call to schedule your time there, but if you have a boat under 30 feet, and need a full service yard, Waypoint has worked hard to become a reliable yard. I purchased a Seasport two years ago from the original owner after spending time on my father-in-laws late 80's Sportsman 22'. The primary use of the Seasport is to get to our cabin in the San Juan Islands. We keep the boat in Anacortes which requires us to cross Rosario Straight to Lopez Pass. The island has no ferry service so private vessel and aircraft are the two ways we can get there. Anyone that knows Rosario will tell you it can be a hair-raising experience crossing the Rosario in foul weather. Safety was my primary concern when I was searching for the right boat and when it came time to select a like-minded shop to service her. I tried a few shops before finding Waypoint Marine. Waypoint has done everything from installing a Mather's drive-by-wire dual helm electronic engine controls system to perfectly fixing and matching her gel coat. Their attention to detail and ability to "listen" to my concerns and craft solutions that work for me puts them in a league of their own. As with any business the staff are the lifeblood of the organization. Steve and Jake have been great to work with and I wouldn't consider taking her anywhere else unless they referred me. read more

I paid for a get ready for summer engine tuneup, battery recharge, oil change, all fluid refill, and a skeg repair for my 28 foot Bayliner cruiser. The itemized list came to around $1600. I was excited to have knowledgable persons looking after my boat. Little by little, as family members took the boat out, it seemed that not all the work had been done properly or at all. One day we got a low fluid alarm while in the middle of Lake Washington. A friend, and knowledgable boat owner, checked all the vital fluids and discovered that all of them were dangerously low. Well, we filled them at the time to avoid catastrophe but then could not "prove" to the disinterested service manager that there had been a problem. Next, I paid to have 2 batteries replaced. Out on the lake again and we lost the charge on the battery only to discover that the second battery compartment was empty. Again, a very disinterested service department. Yeah, we should have checked before we left the marina but it was Blue Angels time and busy, blah blah. I'm not asking for compensation for a crappy time boating. I just want my money back for repairs that were not done. Short summary: I paid out the moorage contract and moved the boat to another marina. When the new mechanic pulled it out of the water we were not surprised to see that the skeg had not been repaired. Was the skeg re-broken in the exact same way during the short trip to the next marina? I don't think so but B & A does. I have learned an expensive lesson (make them pull the boat and show you what you have paid for) and you have been warned about this marina. read more

I cannot recommend this company to anyone looking for engine repair. I brought a dinghy engine here with a spun hub. They eagerly agreed to repair and told me they would have a quote (if not repaired) in two business days. After two weeks, they had not even sent me a quote for the repair, so I called them. They had forgotten. Ok, the next day I get a quote. The quoted work was well over the worth of the engine. I went back and described the work that I needed done (closer to 1/3 the value of the engine). They agreed and said they would have it done soon after the parts arrived. Cool, I thought, parts should arrive in four days or so. I called them a week later after receiving no contact. "We're just waiting on the parts. They're expected to arrive tomorrow at the latest." I called three more times almost daily with the response "it will be done tomorrow." After a month I finally got my dinghy back for a job that took 1.5hrs to perform. This company does not communicate, is slow, and way overpriced. The hourly rate for the engine work was $159. I have not seen a rate anywhere else of more than $125/hr. The only benefit of this company is their dock. read more
