It starts with the consultation. I went to my consultation, got checked in, then met with Dr. Wazney in one of the rooms. After she had explained a few things, I waited until she finished her sentence and began asking her a question related to my anxiety with anesthesia and dentistry. She abruptly cut me off, saying "No, no. I will finish first, THEN you may ask questions." --odd silence... So we finish the consultation, we determine together that it's best I have all 4 removed soon.
On the date of my extraction surgery, I arrive punctually and am admitted into the back to have a quick sit-down discussion with Dr. Wazney before the surgery began. She had re-asked me all of the same questions asked during the consultation (including medications that I am allergic to, etc) as if nothing was ever noted during the consultation appointment. I took this time to once again inform her that I have anxiety issues and that anesthesia and dentistry are two of my biggest fears. Notes were made then I signed and was escorted to the operating room.
I am laying in the chair while they attach the IV and prep for the surgery at this point. Dr. Wazney began administering shots of local anesthetic in several areas of my mouth abruptly, with no delicacy or carefulness. I began to sink into a bit of an anxiety attack during this. After the IV is in and the local anesthetic stabs are done, the gas mask was put over my nose and I was told to just relax. Right after that, I believe I lost consciousness.
I woke up during the surgery, perhaps partially, but enough to feel EXCRUCIATING pain and remember certain dialogue that was spoken by the nurses/doctors/whoever in the room. I felt the majority of the pain from the second-to-last tooth being yanked, as well as the very last tooth. They claim they attempted to re-sedate me, but that they "can only administer so much of the drug". So as soon as they were finished, I immediately woke up completely with a sharp mind and clear memories of some things that happened while I was "under". I was then wheeled to the recovery room to recover, of course.
While in the recovery room right after the surgery, I had spoken to Dr. Wazney herself, and one of her assistants/nurses. I'm not 100% sure who the second lady was, but she was quite kind and understanding. While I was attempting to speak with Dr. Wazney, she was rude to me again. I had been trying to tell them (I say trying because I was stuffed with gauze) what I just went through, which was a nightmare for me, and she simply shrugged off my issues by turning her back to me to walk away while saying "Hmmph.. the drugs do funny things to people".
-----Let me make this abundantly clear in this review: I was COMPLETELY coherent and clear-minded from the moment I was wheeled out of the surgery room. My issues with this cold-hearted doc were NOT caused by the anesthetic drugs.

So I continued to try to explain to the other lady, the one that was nice, what I had went through. I told her that I clearly heard people in the room saying "it's a good thing we stopped her, otherwise she would have just kept going with him like that" while I was SUPPOSEDLY knocked out. When I told her this, she had this look on her face like she knew I was right, but did not want to acknowledge it for the sake of avoiding more trouble. Also, it's common practice to give patients with anxiety a valium or something before the surgery so that their anxiety doesn't interfere with sedation. I received no care there.
Over two weeks later, I am mostly healed. But I had to pry a tooth fragment from my gums last night. Emerging fragments are norm, but this fragment was there since day 1... I thought it was part of the stitching the whole time til I realized it wont dissolve. If I can see it in the mirror after getting home from the surgery, then it should have been removed at the time of the surgery.
Stay away from Dr. Wazney. I was treated like I were a kid (25 year old man here), my comfort handled with little to no care, and disrespected by her. Read other reviews, they match mine. read more
