My experience with DeSoto Family Clinic has been extremely disappointing due to the behavior of the…read moreoffice manager, Sean. His conduct has consistently overshadowed the professionalism and genuine care provided by Dr. Johnson and the other medical staff, who are all wonderful, patient, and understanding. Every interaction with Sean involves him going out of his way to intercept my calls just to be combative and dismissive -- especially regarding my nutritional plan. Despite Dr. Johnson clearly instructing me to continue working with my licensed nutritionist, Sean constantly questions and undermines that plan. He repeatedly insists that I "get rid of my nutritionist" because "this clinic specializes in weight loss," even though Dr. Johnson explicitly told me, "No, you need to keep your nutritionist." During one call that lasted nearly an hour, he lectured me on how to eat and manage my diabetes -- despite having no medical degree. On another occasion, when I simply asked to leave a message for Dr. Johnson's nurse, he refused and said, "You can tell me." Most recently, after Dr. Johnson asked me on Friday to follow up Monday about a new medication (Trulicity) and a gastroenterologist referral, I did exactly as she instructed. When I called, Sean again intercepted the call. I explained that I was following up with the young lady who handles prior authorizations because she had asked me to check with Medicaid about coverage. He cut me off and said, "Nope, Mrs. Benton, you can talk to me." When I explained the situation, he snapped, "See, I'm not going to do this with you today." Every time I try to speak with the nurse or doctor, he refuses to transfer the call, making sarcastic remarks about me "still working with the nutritionist." When I reminded him that I was following Dr. Johnson's medical instructions, he became defensive and argumentative, saying, "You just don't want to listen." I calmly responded, "I am listening to what my doctor told me to do -- she told me to keep my nutritionist." I even told him, "Why does it bother you so much that I'm following Dr. Johnson's medical advice? That shouldn't concern you -- you're not the medical professional." Later, when I explained that Medicaid's pharmacy department had instructed me to obtain my pharmacy dispensing records to show my previous Ozempic use (which would allow prior authorization approval for either Mounjaro or Ozempic), he again talked over me, insisting I was wrong and said I have never heard of medicaid paying for Ozempic & Mounjaro without trying two of their approved medicines first. I said Sean, why does ever interaction with you has to be combative or argumentative? I'm just telling you what the lady from Medicaid Prior Authorization department just told me. He said "you get Medicaid Pharmacist on the phone to tell me that." I hung up with him & got someone from Medicaid Prior Authorization Department on the phone and asked the lady if she can get on a three way call with my doctor office and explain to him what was just told to me about getting my pharmacy dispensing record and Medicaid will cover either Ozempic or Mounjaro. She said sure. Called the office back and he picked up (go figure) and their representative confirmed to both of us that what I said was correct. And he asks "Ma'am, what did she tell you? Did she tell you another provider was prescribing that not our office. She said yes but that doesn't matter as long as she can prove through her pharmacy dispensing record that her previous insurance covered the brand Ozempic, all the doctor office have to do is check yes on #5 & #6 on the PA and send in her pharmacy dispensing records and Medicaid will cover the medication. Instead of acknowledging that, he became irritated -- and within minutes of ending that call, I received a text message stating that the clinic was "dropping me as a patient due to noncompliance." To be dismissed for following my doctor's instructions and verifying information directly with Medicaid is unethical and unacceptable. I remained calm, respectful, and proactive at every step -- yet I was treated as if I had done something wrong for seeking clarity and accuracy in my care. Dr. Johnson is a wonderful physician who deserves better administrative support. Her compassion and professionalism are completely overshadowed by an office manager who continually oversteps his role and behaves as though he has medical authority. Patients deserve to be treated with respect, professionalism, and care -- not dismissed for following their doctor's advice instead of an unqualified staff member's opinions.

Think the name was some form of Shawn...it actually sounded like he called a wrong number when they answer with "what ya want!?" Sounds like we dodged yet another office that doesn't listen.

He is a general practitioner for the most part. During that time we have survived many illnesses and pandemics together and he has somehow manage to keep us both alive. So many times I should have died already, that it's hard to keep track of them. He will offer some specializations if you are more than 49 years old. Bronze level status, otherwise it is pretty simple care. Basic med stuff. He has a great style of bedside manner and actually puts you first I feel like. He is honest, knowledgeable, has great medical insight where others fail. He has a quirky but comfortable approach to dealing with his patients. He is a general practitioner in the most sense and is knowledgeable in all aspects of the Doctor gangsta game. Almost every person in the office I have dealt with in the last 24 years or so have been great. After all of this time you see a lot of people come and go. Future Adam will need some care too, so I try and remain friends with as many mortal and non mortal doctors as possible. I'll be back in six months unless the powers that be force a jump for me.
