This is a great historical venue because you get 3 houses for the price is one. Silas Deane is famous for being an American Revolution figure, but it's interesting to compare. In the visitor's center, there is currently an exhibit on restoring these and other houses in the area, and a nice gift shop. In the houses, one is of Silas Deane's stepfamily next door, and one is a leatherworker, but one that was lived in by the family the longest and most naturally preserved. George Washington slept in one of the houses. There is also history of the guy who originally tried to restore the houses and painted great American history scenes - so not someone who was perfectly accurate in his restoration, but he had the spirit. The history of restoration can be just as interesting and relevant as the original inhabitant history. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and there is a lot to see between 3 houses, so the tour was pretty full. There is a parking lot on site as well as street parking. It's nestled on a regular street among other businesses, but it's a nice gem of the past. read more

If you're in the Wethersfield area, you simply have to stop in. My friend and I actually didn't do a tour of the houses, what drew us in was the fruit over the door to the house and we wanted to find out why there was real fruit put up. PSA: it's because it used to denote wealth and so they've carried on this tradition. If you're looking for some unique holiday gifts then you really need to check out their gift shop, they have Caswell Massey soaps, where you or your loved ones can smell like George Washington. They also have an amazing face mask selection right now so if you're looking for a holiday mask, stop by, they come to just under $13 plus tax. The ladies there were all incredibly nice and helpful, and I'll definitely stop by again soon to see what else is here. read more

Had our wedding here in May and it was the best day ever!! Katie who books the weddings was very easy to work with. She went out of her way to making sure our day was perfect. Before my parents and I drove down the driveway for the special bride entrance, Katie was guarding the driveway making sure no cars came down before we did! My sister in law told me that she was even in the bathrooms making sure they stayed clean! Katie recommended a few vendors and we were happy with each one that she suggested. We absolutely loved our wedding planner Lisa Nightingale. Katie and Lisa worked together to make sure the ceremony was set up the way we wanted. We originally wanted our guest to face the barn but because it called for rain that day and she moved the chairs so our guest didn't have to face the tent. (That was later set up by the barn. Stupid rain!!) Her and the Lisa sent us pictures before the ceremony to make sure we were ok with the set up. Katie was also there to make sure the people who waited on the weather with tents knew where to go and what would work best for keeping our dream of having an outdoor wedding. The barn has a/c, heat, a full kitchen for your caterer and plenty of parking for your guest. They have chairs and tables available but you have the option to rent different ones if you don't like what they have. We couldn't have been more grateful and happy that we went with the Webb Barn. The candlelight Christmas tour was a highlight of the season, and I'm looking forward to making it a tradition. Each house (Joseph Webb, Silas Deane, and Isaac Stevens) is decorated for Christmas in the manner of a different historical period, and the tour guides do an excellent job of explaining how different holiday customs and traditions came to be. That information is interspersed with biographical information about the owners of the homes. The Webb House-- where Washington and Rochambeau planned the Siege of Yorktown-- was particularly fun to visit. Visitors can check out the room that Washington slept in, and the room where the campaign was planned (which, during the Christmas tour, was decorated as it would have been in the 1920s). If you're interested in the candlelight tour, it's probably a good idea to check the Museum's website intermittently as December approaches. This year they only offered them on two Friday nights in mid-December, so if you blink you'll miss it. Tours are $12 a person and well worth it. read more

Brilliant place that changed my life. First off I find it hilarious that the 2 reviews complained about the catering and tea service which has nothing to do with the Webb barn itself. Cheers for not knowing what you are reviewing yelpers. Secondly, the barn was a magical place from beginning to end to have my wedding at. I got married last year there and it was an ideal setting. I live in manhattan and all of my friends who came from the city (which was an easy commute ) and my entire family said it was the best wedding they had been to in years. From the coordinator to the garden with perfectly blooming flowers to the rustic yet divine feel of the barn to the quiet location itself made for an unforgettable day and night. We got our catering from the village tavern adjacent to the barn and they couldn't have been more professional and friendly. As the night drew close and the lights from the barn lit up my wife and I felt like we couldn't have made a more perfect choice. A few of our friends wished they had gotten married there. I cannot say enough about the barn and Katie who runs the establishment. read more

Absolutely loved this venue. It was a fall afternoon when I recently went to a sweet wedding there. I was prepared being told ahead of time that the ceremony and bar would be outside and brought a sweater and a jacket. The woman who was in charge from the barn... "The coordinator" was no where to be seen all night. The brides parents were actually moving tables away from the front door as people were freezing only to find out at the end of the night that the Venue is heated but they never turned the heat on because no one asked! What?! Didn't she see everyone bundled up even with blankets? I felt bad for the family as this is suppose to be a day of bliss where everything is handled for you. read more

With company in town over the holidays, I was looking for some activities that would get us "out" - and the Christmas tour of the three historic homes was the golden ticket! Our tour guide Sal is also a curator for the museum, so we were treated to many entertaining side stories as he provided historical context for the three homes we toured. My parents absolutely loved the learning about the history homes and their previous owners, and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. After going on the tour, I must say that I got to see Old Wethersfield in a new light... And I appreciate it even more! A holiday must for history enthusiasts! read more

I've both visited the museum as a guest and had my wedding here. Both experiences were awesome. The museum tour takes about an hour and the docent was very knowledgeable about each of the three houses and the people who lived in them. Behind the houses is a garden and a barn. We rented the barn for my wedding. Katie was so responsive to every question I had. They let you bring in whoever you want for catering, music, photography, etc. so the experience was exactly as I wanted it. I can't imagine getting married any place else. It was truly a unique and beautiful wedding and reception. read more

So I went to a wedding at this place over the weekend and it was a very mediocre experience. The place was drafty, I had no silverware, my coffee was cold by the time I got it, and I ate my dessert from a napkin because I didn't have a plate to put it into. The place was also very drafty and cold. The mother of the bride kept having to help get things moving through the entire time. The meal was still on the dance floor when everybody was ready to dance. It seemed as though the event coordinator wasn't present and, from what I heard, was rude. I will definitely not be recommending this place to anybody looking for a good time or even as a location for a get together. I got married here (at the Webb Barn.) The vendor double-booked our wedding with a garden tour. We found out a week prior to the wedding, via a third party email. We tried desperately to get the vendor to retract the advertisements with the garden club, as we had had a written and signed (and paid for) contract to rent the grounds from 2 pm until 7 pm. I was given half of an hour (until 2:30) to get married (the actual ceremony) and take all of the pictures. We had to RUSH my 92-year-old grandmother, who walks with a lot of assistance, to get in and out of pictures while my new husband and my father had to ask garden tours to back up and let us take our pictures. Before the actual ceremony, the woman who booked our wedding and sat down and signed a contract with us, renting us the venue for that day and those hours, came into my dressing room and told me to hurry and that I only had half of an hour. I reminded her that I had until 7 pm, as that is what our contract said. She went out and was rude to my mother, my photographer, and even our innocent caterers, who had done nothing and said nothing to her. In the end, we are trying to get a small reimbursement since we lost a major part of what we rented (the garden and the entire surrounding area, essentially everything but the parking lot and the inside of the barn) to wandering garden club people. The garden club people were polite, I must add, and did move away from the garden when asked so that I could shuffle my grandmother around for pictures, but it was a terrible experience to have to go through on what is supposed to be the happiest day of your life. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THE WEBB BARN, Please make sure to call often and insist on speaking to the executive director to make sure that they have not made any scheduling errors. I cannot stress this enough! Do not let your day be tainted by stress and anxiety because of someone else's error, not when you've spent so much time and effort planning your wedding or event! read more

My daughter's wedding on October 17th was perfect -- rustic but elegant and so much fun!!! Although the day was a bit chilly, we had provided guests with blankets and the ceremony was short but oh so sweet!! The staff at the barn - Katie and Howard- were easy to work with and always accommodating. And our caterer, John from Village Catering, was professional and listened to our vision -we did stations and instead of a cake, we had a pie bar!!!!! Friends helped out by baking their favorites and this was such a hit. The. Bride and groom had the best time and all their friends and our family agree this was the best wedding EVER!! I have to say I would do it over again. The day went by much too quickly. Thumbs up to the staff of THE BARN AND VILLAGE CATERING!! My teens and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of all three homes. Our guide, Phil, was incredibly knowledgeable and had tons of interesting stories and historical tidbits. While reading all the the reviews keep in mind this is a museum comprised of three historic homes and a barn which is rented out for functions. I went on the approximate one and a half hour tour on a sunny afternoon. In my opinion the tour guide who escorts you sets the tone and enjoyment of the tour. My guide was enthusiastic and offered much information on the family and some important events about the town history but less on the history and objects in the house. Wetherfield offers a few historic sites to tour but this museum is probably offers the most to see in the shortest distance. Free parking is offered at the brick visitor center lot across the street. This visitor center, a former academy, has a great town history musem which is worth a stop if you are in the area. read more
