Anoka Aquatic is one of the only pools in the metro area open to the public and HUGE props to their Covid protocols. Their website may not be updated. FB seems to be updated regularly. Originally they were going to sell season passes to residents only, but I guess they didnt sell as many as they thought, so there are online sales for anyone!! Up to 7 days before you want to swim, go to the Anoka "Open Swim" page and chose your tickets. They do frequently sell out. They are not refundable, but at $5.50 they are not a huge splurge in my budget. Print your tickets. When you arrive, your tickets will be scanned and SO WILL YOUR FACE. This includes a temperature check. This made me feel super good, but I know not everyone would want a scan of their face. Whatever. Today is not 2002 and we are not being freaked out by a weird Tom Cruise movie about facial recognition anymore. There are no chairs this year, so bring your own. The day we went was sold out, but felt reasonable in the crowd. In addition to the pool deck, there is a large grassy shady area where you can spread out (popular with parents of slightly older kids, good for anyone for spreading out for lunch) You can bring in a cooler for your lunch, but the concession stand is open. I think things are different on weekdays vs weekends, but on the day we visited they closed the pool from 3-4 pm to clean. We would have been allowed to re enter, and we certainly could have used this time to chill in the park right next to the pool. But we decided we had had enough. I thought the Covid logistics were very satisfying. Now on to the pool! This pool is not huge. But it as a sold pool, and worth $5.50. Large areas of shallow, and the lifeguards were constantly reminding people to stay near the littles kids instead of letting them walk into deeper water. Cool. Theres a lily pad crossing that my 8 and 12 year old liked. A diving board! And a climbing wall! There is a waterslide which is fun, but not as fun as the one are my preferred community pool. I suggest going down sitting up, bc the bumps can be brutal on your back vs your butt. The lifeguards totally made my 8 year old do a swim check, which I think is cool. The deep area is not huge either, but enough room to hang out for a bit and my kids and I loved being in deep pool water, which is always a treat but especially this summer.

They advertise no outside food or beverage but it was not enforced.

My son purchased a class here for lifeguarding. Very poor experience. The instructor was very…read morecritical and refused to let him open his eyes to do the brick test and could not look in before going into the water for the brick. He failed and was told he could not continue. The tests were done in a punishing way and under threat of failing. He has passed the brick test at three other locations with plenty of time. The instructor did not have any empathy or customer service. Pool does not have any natural light and is colder than normal. There was mildew on all the caulk around the pool. Stay away from this instructor and location.

I love that they don't charge you joiners fee and you can buy your membership several different ways. You can pay for a day pass, punchcard (certain amount of times), or by the months increments (1,3,6,12). A day pass I think is only $5. They also have free nights for anyone who lives in Brooklyn center on Saturday evenings. You are able to use both the pool and the fitness room it's from 5pm to 7pm. I originally bought a 10 inch pass. I liked it so much. I'm planning to now getting a year membership. It's a lot less crowded than other gyms . At least in the evenings. I've never been there other times of the day. I haven't had chance to do the group fitness yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it. I'm also planning to sign up for some swim lessons this year. I would love to learn this would be for summer.

This was my first visit for the purpose of volunteering at USA Swimming Junior National Championship. Parking can be a challenge for visitors. There is a nearby parking garage and very limited surface spaces. The area around the pool was clean. The building although dated to possibly the 70's is in great condition. The majority of the facility is the competition pool used by the University of Minnesota Swim team. The facility is nicely maintained. However, faculty and students can use the pool. The Olympic size competition pool is 50 meters with movable bulkhead, platform diving and well. The aquatic complex consist of approximately 145,000 gallons of swimming capability. The Long Course pool has eight lanes for competition.. The spectator area is expansive and spans the entire length of both sides of the pool and well. The public locker room area is large and pretty clean. There were two malfunctioning items. Great facility and hope to return for another event in the near future.

This is a great center, until it's not. I go almost every single day. I've only ever had an issue twice. The problem is that they have almost no one to address issues. it could be as simple as asking patrons to follow the policy. member services apparently isn't allowed to do this. So, by the time a manager comes, the patrons violating the policy have caught on that you're complaining, and they run away. Then you're told, well they're gone now so....and if you don't accept their answer to basically deal with policy violations and move then why have the policy in the first place. You're even told to ignore those who were giving you a hard time and not following the rules and told "you could just go to another machine" I guess that's true if that wasn't my last one. I was then told, "well there's one other one on the third floor." Suddenly, it became a discussion of buts and should haves and not addressing my concern at all. It's so exhausting as a patron to be put down when I literally just wanted to use a machine when they were basically not using it and reserving it as a group. Only after it was escalated to higher up individuals (beyond - to reiterate - beyond the basic building manager - was my issue at least somewhat addressed. Again, almost always there is no issue, but when there is you won't get much help. I was berated, had eyes rolled at me, and other odd responses. What did they want me to do, escalate the situation with the patrons not allowing me to use an open machine? The reason I'm giving it one star is that this lack of basic support could be a safety issue at some point and demonstrates a weak infrastructure to enforce their own rules.

We received a buzzer and went back for it when it was ready. As I picked it up, there was another woman there complaining about hers not being done all the way and was going to have to wait another 20-30 min for a new one. I was happy to see all 3 of our pizzas were cooked and enjoyed by all. Also had food from the other concessions, the GF bun was fresher this time around and had to wait 25 min for a veggie burger that I had to keep running back to check on until I asked if the could hollar out the side window when it was done. A nice woman delivered it to me but only after my fries blew away in the wind one of the times I got up to check on my burger. Overpriced food aside with "meh" service, it was a great day we all enjoyed. We came back a second day with some relatives another day and it was less crowded on a Tuesday. We would visit again. Not too crazy at $20 to get in compared to other places.

Jim Lupient is a fun and underrated water park in Northeast Minneapolis. They have a lot of…read moreactivities for kids and adults alike: a splash area, lap lanes, an obstacle course, water slides, mini golf, and more! I came specifically for the lap lane swimming. The lanes are nice, though limited (just two). I didn't have a problem getting a lane, but your mileage may vary. I sometimes had to deal with kids randomly jumping into the lane or cutting across me - which wasn't the end of the world, but it did cause a few almost-crashes. The other thing that bugged me is that they close the pool for a 15-minute "safety break" every few hours. This cut into my workout, which was a bit frustrating. But if you can plan around these - or if you have the time to spare - then it's not a big deal. Overall the experience was nice and the price is reasonable ($5 for an adult), so I would come back. If the weather's nice and you're in the area, check it out yourself!

Low and high dive add entertainment as there are regulars (even some in speedos) a zip line over water, water slide and a bonus wave pool that costs additional money. We bought passes ahead and our kids love it.
