It's far more than a daycare it's a caring, intentional early learning community where children are genuinely nurtured and supported. The director leads with love, professionalism, and a deep commitment to putting children first, and it shows in every part of the program. My daughter has been at Twin Oaks since she was six months old, and now at three, she still looks forward to going every day. Her social skills, confidence, and early learning abilities are noticeably strong for her age, and I truly credit the nurturing environment and thoughtful curriculum here. The school has gone through staffing changes, but those changes have brought so much positive growth. The current teachers are dedicated, professional, and genuinely love the kids. The atmosphere is calmer, more consistent, and more joyful than ever. I especially want to highlight the current preschool teacher she is phenomenal. Her warmth, creativity, and professionalism give me so much peace knowing my daughter is in her classroom. Twin Oaks is a place where children feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. The director and staff create a welcoming environment for families, and it truly feels like a community. For over ten years, I have been a YMCA member--not only at the New Bedford YMCA, but at multiple YMCA facilities across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Wareham, Taunton, and Lincoln, RI. Every YMCA I have attended enforces a clear and consistent policy requiring members to wear a towel or bathing suit when entering the sauna or steam room. The New Bedford YMCA is the only exception I have ever encountered. At the New Bedford YMCA, it has become common for certain members--many of whom have been members for decades--to sit completely nude in the sauna and steam room without a towel or any form of coverage. This creates an uncomfortable and inappropriate environment, especially when others are stretching, cooling down, or using the facilities as intended. Over the past several years, I and several colleagues have made repeated complaints directly to Tara Pacheco regarding this issue. Unfortunately, no meaningful action has been taken. On multiple occasions, Tara stated that signage had been posted requiring members to remain covered in the sauna and steam room. I use the New Bedford YMCA and its locker room almost daily and have never seen such a sign. In contrast, every other YMCA I attend has clear, visible signage--often laminated or permanently mounted--stating this rule. When raising these concerns, Tara has repeatedly referenced an unrelated incident from many years ago involving inappropriate behavior on furniture that was later removed. While this demonstrates awareness of past issues in the locker room, it does not address the ongoing and current problem. At times, Tara has also stated that she has no control over what occurs in the men's locker room and has suggested that any signage was removed by members. If that were the case, it raises the question of why permanent signage--similar to what exists in other YMCA locations--has not been installed. As a result of this lack of enforcement, members often argue when asked to follow basic facility rules. Staff presence in the upstairs locker room is extremely limited, and intervention typically only occurs after conflicts escalate. Additional concerns include unsanitary behavior, such as members shaving without cleaning up afterward. There appear to be no consistent consequences or supervision addressing these issues. As a minority member, I feel my concerns and experiences have not been taken seriously. All I have asked for is consistent enforcement of the same rules followed at every other YMCA location. The absence of clear signage, supervision, and accountability has allowed this situation to continue unresolved. I am sharing this statement because I am exhausted from repeatedly raising the same concern without results. I wish this could have been addressed privately and respectfully, but after years without change, I feel my voice deserves to be heard.

Each of the teachers know my son by name, even the ones in the other classrooms who don't interact with him as often. Each classroom has an indescribable homey feel. I have also been very pleased by the variety of activities. The teachers take the kids outside, create age-appropriate art projects, and sing songs. Finally, I really appreciate the level of individualized communication from the teachers. We get an information sheet about his day at pick-up. In addition to what you might expect (times of diaper changes, length of nap, etc.), there is always a rundown of his daily activities. My spouse and I love reading through these in the evening - the teachers clearly pay attention to our son. I love hearing about how great of a day he had and that he was all smiles. We also receive emails over the weekend letting us know of the many events going on. I very much appreciate how he is treated as an individual and how much his teachers clearly care.

Our kids have spend a combined four years at BECC, and we have had nothing but good experiences with the school. We recommend it to everyone we know with preschool aged kids. Pros: Play based learning- the kids learn so much, but they just think they're playing. Happy Veteran Teachers- seriously there are teachers who have been at the school for 30 years! Face-to-face interactions on a daily basis with teachers- every day at pick up and drop off I get to see my kids classroom and teachers. Authentic assessments- the teachers observe and track student progress with pictures and notes, and then collect them all into a portfolio that they then share during conferences. Super clean- no gross preschool smell here Playground community- the playground is a great place to meet up before and after school! Non-Profit Status- provides opportunities for volunteering and involvement School Board of Directors- parents apply to be involved in decision making and support of the school Cons: The school ends at age 5- I would sign my kids up for all of elementary school here if I could!
