Before he started we chatted briefly about what my goals were and why I was interested in the audit. We came up with three goals and went from there. He tested the air quality of my home and did a blower door test. We found some surprising areas that was losing heat and were inefficient. He was helpful in ideas for quick home fixes to making a list of problem areas to focus on. I was pleased with the whole experience. I wouldn't have realized energy audits were a thing until I spoke with a co-worker who recently had one conducted. I am glad I got one done on my home. Raul, who came for the estimate and led the team who did the work, was knowledgeable and professional, walked me through the work at the end of every day and answered all questions. They draped everything (including what we had already draped ourselves), cut away minimal drywall to access the walls, swept up every day and left the place clean at the end of the job. They even fixed the radon mitigation issue that started the whole process of waterproofing the basement. Haven't had to run the dehumidifier at all and the basement smells better. Recommend highly.

First of all, we were on a very tight schedule and needed to get our inspection done quickly. The inspector, Josh, came in on a Sunday afternoon and did a very thorough inspection. He talked to me throughout so I always knew what he was doing and why he was doing it. He also gave me a lot of recommendations for things to make our condo more user-friendly. He answered all of my questions and explained things to me in a way that I could understand with my very limited knowledge of all things related to the construction and inner-workings of a home. We had blocked out a time for roughly four hours but because our condo was pretty small, it didn't take Josh that long. In light of this, Josh readjusted the price so I ended up paying less than I expected. He also explained other available services but was very upfront with me about them not being necessary for my particular unit in an effort to save me money and not waste any of my time. I had some suspicious-looking tape on my furnace's ductwork that I had been told might be asbestos…read moretape. Although it was mostly intact, there were a few places where it had gotten torn and had some pieces hanging down. I contacted Lyle Environmental after reading good reviews about them online. They gave me thorough instructions on how to safely collect a sample of the tape so they could test it to determine if it was indeed asbestos tape. After I dropped off the sample they tested it and got back to me very quickly with the results: unfortunately, it was definitely asbestos tape. They described my options: removal, encapsulation, or doing nothing, and told me they could send someone to look at the ductwork and prepare a bid if I decided on either of the first two options. After I contacted Lyle and told them I'd like to have them deal with the tape, a representative came to my home and looked over the ductwork. He recommended removal of the tape where it was torn and encapsulation with a product called LagKloth where the tape was still intact. Lyle's bid for doing this work seemed quite reasonable so I made an appointment for the work to be done. The crew showed up on time the morning of the appointment, got straight to work, and completed the job within a few hours. My experience with Lyle was overwhelmingly positive. Every person I dealt with, from the office manager who took my initial call, to the person who looked at the ducts and prepared the bid, to the crew who did the asbestos remediation, was courteous, professional and conscientious. They answered all my questions and did the job for a reasonable price. They completed the lab work and got me on their schedule quickly. Moreover, several months after the work was completed, I noticed the LagKloth had become detached from the ducts in some areas. These areas are made of wood and had been painted years ago with what is most likely a lead-based paint, which Lyle thought is probably why the LagKloth had loosened from them. Lyle sent a technician out who fixed the problem at no extra cost. Lyle Environmental does good work and stands behind it--I highly recommend them!

After moving in we purchased an electronic radon meter and also did testing with the free charcoal kits. Our readings ended up being over the EPA guidelines. I contacted Radon Pro's and talked with Tom Peters. He seemed to take my concern seriously and came out and made some tweaks to the system. In no time the readings fell dramatically. We're now well under the EPA maximums. I'm very pleased with the level of service they provided and their concern to make it right. I'd highly recommend them.

We were desperate when I searched Google and found out about Home inspections LLC, it was a late Saturday afternoon around 4 PM after we canceled our inspection appointment with another inspector. (I'll explain that whole story after the separation line). While most inspection companies close the office on Saturday evening, I was surprised Home inspections LLC open until 7 PM that afternoon. We read so many praising reviews everywhere about James and his company Home inspections LLC (Yelp, Google+, Facebook, HomeAdvisor, Angie's List), we thought to give the company a call. James picked up the phone after two rings, and everything was set up right over the phone call. James sounds very professional, he wanted us to be there with him for the inspection, or he would set up another day with us so one of us will show up and inspect the house with him. I was impressed, that is exactly what I was looking for. James was very polite and professional, and anybody who knows my husband, he usually never use words like "awesome" to describe someone, but that's how much he felt after he walked every step of the way with James during the inspection, and my husband said he learned so much about our home, and what to look for if something goes wrong. ---------------------------------------------------------- So here's the side story. Before we used Home inspections LLC to do a truly professional job on our future home, we were about to get our home inspected by a clown, it was a close call. I was asking our realtor if she knows some good house inspectors, she said we could use her husband, and she's not joking! (I find it morally wrong when she even suggests that!) However she still sends my husband 3 inspectors on her list, and before I could warn him "don't call the first guy on the list" (her husband), my husband already left a message. Her husband is the classic example of someone truly unprofessional: 1. He told my husband he prefers his client not to show up during the inspection because he needs to concentrate on his job! But he wouldn't mind meeting up afterward to go over the report and charge a little overtime! This is unbelievable! 2. He's only available that Saturday evening between 5-7 pm, not hours earlier or any other days in the week, which we felt he's being sleazy! We felt very uncomfortable to let him to do the inspection, so we cancel the appointment at the very last minute (around 4 PM), and of course the clown was super upset! He said he's going to charge us for the gas money! It's so pathetic but we agreed! So this is why we decided to change our house inspector at the very last minute! He did the inspection IMO too quickly (his young son was with him) and while sharing his findings kicked a hole in the paneling of my garage to indicate that they shouldn't have paneled it and evidence of mice.
