The agent was helpful and very friendly but unfortunately they use the National Tenants Network…read more(NTN) franchise to screen applicants for rentals. You have to complete an NTN application for a specific rental so if you are applying for more than one rental, you have to complete a form each time. You pay $39 per application and that is for each person living in the rental. While I was completing NTN's online application, I got a code error message a few times on some of the fields, meant for their webmaster. When my application report was sent to the realtor, it turns out NTN made a mistake (my monthly income was indicated at an amount I hadn't entered anywhere on the form - and it was FAR greater than my actual income which made it all look fishy). I had no access to my report before it was sent to the realtor to make sure it was correct. Trying to get it changed was a nightmare. NTN requires you to print an application to access your own report, attach more personal ID verification, mail it to them, and then they'll let you know within 14 days if you're eligible for a copy of your report. I actually talked to a lawyer. I had an IT technician look at the code errors I screenshot while filling out my form and she said NTN was using Cold Fushion by Macromedia which was about 11 years out of date. Now I'm worried that NTN has my SSN in this Cold Fushion database. My advice as a prospective renter is to avoid this real estate firm simply because they use NTN.

That should have been my first indicator that HL does not cater to the working class. When I found an apartment I liked, I contacted a broker through their website. A broker answered my questions about the listing. I sent back some information about my income and budget and told her I wanted to know how to proceed with renting the apartment. After her initial email to me, I never received a reply! I emailed twice more to make sure she was getting my messages - still, no reply. Meanwhile, my husband had been searching for apartments independently of me and ended up in contact with the same broker - she replied to his initial email with a lengthy response right away... So this confirms she had been ignoring my emails. I am not a millionaire looking for a Scarsdale mansion, but I think it is wrong for a company to devalue a customer based on a modest budget. We spent many months working with Sheila in their Bronxville office. I don't know what the other…read morebrokers are like, but Sheila is tops. We had a modest budget (modest for Bronxville) but really wanted to live there. However, we were also very specific about the type of house we wanted (pre-war, colonial). Sheila stayed in constant email contact whenever a house came up that she thought we should see. Her suggestion that we see everything in our price range was right on. It made us realize that we probably wouldn't find what we were looking for in our price range and that we might need to make some compromises. Sheila never made us feel like we were nuts to think we could find something and in fact, always stayed optimistic about our prospects. We really liked her no-B.S., straightforward, warm style. She was not a sell-at-all-costs, phony broker. She is definitely not your typical broker. Even when we eventually decided to look in a neighboring town, she referredus to another fantastic broker (birds of a feather, I guess) and stayed in touch! We eventually bought in that town with that broker but we still love Bronxville and dream of finding Our House there one day in the future and when that day comes, we will call Sheila!
