I paid 600.00 for an initial consult for an employment matter. I talked to him for one hour and reserved the other hour for him to look over my documentation. He did not follow up or give an opinion on my case. Months later I told him I arranged a mediation. He seemed excited and told me he would bill me after mediation. His paralegal told me to send him the employer's position statement and my rebuttal right away. He took weeks to answer me. When we did get on the phone, there were just long silences. I have received zero advice, and he admitted he only read "some" of my rebuttal. When we had our appt to talk about mediation, he still didn't give me advice but he raised his voice to me and repeated the same question 4 times and told me "I don't have a disability anyway". I was so shocked I didn't know what to say. He said I had a complicated case, meaning he took it before he realized how much work I needed. I sent him a few questions by email because it was too late to find another lawyer and catch him up to speed. He didn't answer any of them. I canceled the mediation because of my lack of faith in him and now have to start over minus 600 dollars. I told him I cancelled and bowed out nicely without calling him out. He claims that he's being charitable by not charging me for work he did towards my mediation, however I sincerely doubt he took the extra hour from the initial consult to go over anything I sent. So 2 weeks later he gets around to my old emails and is irritated because he thinks I'm looking for new advice, when he really just neglected my old emails. I told him in the first email that those were messages sent before I cancelled mediation, then he sends this email saying that I wanted too much for a settlement but never actually advised me what the value was, which makes me think he didn't know the value because he didn't read what I sent him. He sent another long email about how he's not representing me anymore and the way I'm taking it, he was inferring that he may need to start charging me for the email advice. I wrote him again and said "check your dates". I was willing to pay thousands but he didn't want to do the work and take it? He's acting as if he had quit, rather than the fact that I fired him in a nice way and I didn't even argue that he wasted my money. It's my assumption that he yelled at me and acted like a jerk so I would fire him (which I did) and he would be able to get out of the work he agreed to. read more

Crooked attorneys I had to take them to court. The case is finally over and I had to settle with them out of court for 700.00. The system is messed up, for one its hard to find an attorney to go against another attorney over fees. Another attorney would have won this case. Its upsetting when you think about it but you have to KNOW the scam. What this lawyer STEVEN MAHAN did: 1. He lied to me affirming to me that I had in fact been discriminated against had then had me sign a 2500.00 nonrefundable retainer inferring that those fund were going to be use for my case. 2. He filed nothing on my behalf. Lied to me about work that he had done all he did was go through the motion like he was doing something. His plan was to get me to sign the agreement then pass the case on the another agency the DOJ and let them tell me I have no case. I feel so stupid because I trusted him. I was embarrassed angry and totally not thinking and i let him do the thinking BIG MISTAKE. Instead of telling me truth he decided to make a fast buck at my expense. In my case in order to prove discrimination I would have to prove that it was done to OTHERS as well. for example you can not say an entity discriminates against women when they are actively seeing women. My thoughts were wrong it cant be an individual issue if your part of a group. The worse part is i explained my case to him entirely he made sure not to explain what discrimination was to me and let me run with what I though it was. That why he didnt file anything and tried to dump the case off on someone else. IN the end I had to pay this attorney for reading 6 or so emails (that never read) less than 15 minutes of his time. To Larry Wiesberg who represented his employee with 20+years experience for shame you are no better than he is. I was getting help a first from the students a widener University somehow he found out and contacted the school and had them to stop helping me citing a conflict of interest on part of the school. I fought all the way because its wrong to do this to people. MY ENTIRE LIFE I have dedicated to helping people its a kick in the stomach to need help yourself and this happen. I enrolled in legal studies after this experience. Its important before you see an attorney to calm yourself down because seeing an attorney when you are upset or angry is not a good idea. MOST IMPORTANTLY if you think your attorney is doing something wrong do not disengage them or act on your own CONTACT the review board to find out how to proceed. DO NOT SIGN THESE TYPES OF CONTRACT WALK because 9/10 the lawyer thinks the case is not worth investing any time in and that they will make more from the bulk payment than the hours. I messed up by sending him legal advice of what i thought the law was and i tried to nicely separate from him thinking he would only bill for actual work...which was NOTHING. The ONLY thing hiring this firm achieved was that It made matter A LOT WORSE on SO MANY LEVELS. I worked almost 30 + years in human services and have watched as the elderly are ripped off by people who are charged to protect them then to watch Larry Wiesberg and Steven Mahan have a good laugh in court knowing they were ripping me off shows you how messed up the system really is. You need the right pieces to play in the game of law without them your going to lose. That is his haha remark below. He went as far as to have his friend from TX write him a review to counter mine and push my review out of sight. I went online to find this attorney and read the reviews on his web page found no other reviews. That in itself is a bad sign. I was curious so I read through your case file 2016-cv-9043-DJ. The fact that you did this on your own took guts but without the help of an attorney your are going to lose. In the future if you think your lawyer is trying to pull a fast one on you contact the bar and ask how to proceed. Do not think that you can be nice to them because they are trying to take your money that in itself is not nice. Do not sign any document your unsure about. Non refundable retainers are legal in the state of PA. They are questionable because you could end up paying more than the service the lawyer provided. From what was argued you ended up paying him 2,500.00 for less than an hour of work I'm sure his hourly salary was far less. The court document show he charged you for reading emails but filed nothing on your behalf. He charged you for an hour worth of work for reading 6 emails that you sent. Reading your case it sounded like you were rejected service initially that led to your distress. Unfortunately you can not claim discrimination if the accused is actively seeing other people of the your same group, It would most likely turn into a business practice issue. You learned the hard way do not sign one of these ever. Trying to disengage after signing one of these contracts is nearly impossible. In the future request services to be paid by the hour or walk. From reading your below statement do not feel like you have no choice their are plenty lawyers out their that will work by the hour. One thing you must always remember, If you have an actual case most lawyers will take it on contingency. Larry represented me when I was being sexually harassed at work. I was still employed at the location, had been repeatedly verbally propositioned by the owners teenage son, pinned into a corner and pushed up on by the owners son (who I then threw through the cubicle) and then I was groped by management. Two fingers slid between my legs while at work. I had been approached on the street outside of work while with my daughter in such a manner as to make her stand behind me crying. My employer employed 3 females and the rest of the staff were men, approximately 15 men. All females were subject to harassment. He advised me not to quit my job and to be mindful of everything as it was happening, to document everything and to submit a written (formal) complaint to the owner.
