Got kicked off for "non payment" even though I DID pay the premium and also…read morespoke with a customer svc rep about not only being late but due to find out why my dental service was so high. Was told all was good just to pay each month due within the 90 day grace period. Perhaps if my inhaler copay hadn't MORE THAN DOUBLED what the cost was last year ($37 to $85) I would have been more up to date on the premium costs. Also as someone who has high medical needs I had a plan that helped reduce copays for visits however it's $99 more than it is in other parts of the state. When I asked why I was told this was due to the number of claims in Wayne County, OF COURSE there are more claims! There's nearly 2 million people here vs the other parts of the state that may have under 400 thousand people living there. I say this is complete B.S. considering other MA plans do NOT have such a massive price rate difference between plans. Would have to call regularly about different issues and be told something different from each employee I would speak to when having to follow up about a same problem. One employee even tried to blame the 3rd party approval company for giving me the wrong info when trying to find out if a service was covered saying "they have no idea what they are doing" yet one of her coworkers gave me the same exact information stating I was covered- as per the handbook stating the service I requested was covered. Was recently told by an employee of yours you keep moving everyone to different departments constantly and NO ONE knows what they are doing as a result and it's quite chaotic. As much of a ridiculously high premium your customers pay to actually get "decent" coverage- we DESERVE better and so do our providers. They should NOT have to be getting dragged through the mud to get reimbursed. It states this is listed as a non profit insurance organization yet even with a "paycut" your CEO is still making over $4 mil and you shelled out more than $20 mil for political lobbying in the last election- yet want to cut services for your customers. You also lobbied more for the party who has created the higher costs and problems we are dealing with now, so thanks a lot No different than any other companies- Pure GREED.

I live in the Grand Rapids, Mi area and have Blue Cross which is a complete joke. I had United…read moreHealthcare for a few years and they were excellent in their payments of bills, non payment and not allowing me to be billed if not authorized. Yet when I moved to Michigan BCBS has a monopoly and someone must be getting kick backs because United wasn't allowed in any hospital in the Grand Rapids area. I spent an hour today speaking with a HAP sales representative. It seems great but when I called with a question the call went off shore and I could not understand a word this guy was saying. That is big for me. I am willing to sell my home and move back to Louisiana because at least United Healthcare in Louisiana was excellent. I am 69 with health issues that cause me to have several specialists. Today you never meet your specialist or a family physician. It is always a Nurse Practitioner. Completely shocked with Michigan. Rampant mental illness with no place for them to get help. Drug addiction and alcoholism is out of control. Yet Blue Cross Blue Shield runs everything. I can't decide whether I am going to switch or not. I probably only have a few years left and am not in the mood to have to constantly argue with people and be transferred to off shore people if I have a question. AI bull is out of hand on these CSR calls too.

I wouldn't consciously ever recommend any person ever get on this health insurance unless they are 100% healthy. You will be punished if you're sick. This company is denial trigger-happy and sadistically ran. Employees don't know what an external review is and are incredibly unknowledgeable and negligent, if you are in a hurry they are unqualified to help you. I have faced extreme difficulties I have never faced before with HAP. It's hard enough in America being someone with a disability, but I telling you with urgency to AVOID HAP and pick any other insurance agency - pick one that covers your meds, rack up the medical bills as you need, and don't pay. You will save more money by not being sick and in pain all the time. Pay the extra monetary amount for better care in the long run. HAP needs to be criminally investigated and tried for collusion and fraud. External appeals almost always ends in the patient's favor as the provider is not financially benefitting from denials, but it is interesting to hear the many cases such as my own having external appeals denied more frequently. HAP deserves to be sued into becoming defunct for their unethical practices.

After I signed up I received a notice from the actual insurance company they had increased my quote by $800. I call, Sue says she will look into it but doesn't return the call for at least 10 days, then has an excuse why it took so long. Is it so hard to pick up the phone and at least update your client as to what is going on. The problem? Sue failed to completely copy my records proving I had prior insurance elsewhere. The original quote never materialized and I was told there was nothing that could be done; it was a decision made by the company. Then Sue 'offers' to get a quote from a different company, says she will call back next day; never called to this day. I called and left 3 messages, no return call; this is BS. My job was a customer service expert for a very long time, and I promise you this is not what real customer service looks like. As a local TV station recently stated in one of their stories, common courtesy isn't common anymore. Needless to say I went elsewhere.
