Does it matter? No. I've been inside Walmart bathrooms that smell horrendous but it wouldn't stop me from shopping there. He refilled my tank with argon and we talked for a good 35 minutes. Before you read any more: they don't do propane/LPG but they have every other type of gas you're likely to need including argon, helium, acetylene, and more. Parking is very limited but if you're creative (and you are creative if you're a welder) it won't be a problem, just use common sense and don't block the drive as there are other businesses farther back. It's probably around a 2,000 sf space, packed floor to ceiling with welding gear in every nook and cranny plus a small office space dedicated to more welding gear, paperwork, and some of the owners hobbies that he works on between customers. I do some mig welding occasionally and have been here about six times over the years because it's not too far from where I work every day. I've purchased some items here but I usually go for argon refills. In addition to my mig/tig/stick I just got a small Smith Little Torch so I need an oxygen bottle and regulator for it and that's the reason for a lunchtime visit earlier today. The owner is the only person there normally so you'll likely get a short tour of every option of the item you're looking for... and more. Is it a place you go in to browse around? If he's helping someone else then perhaps... otherwise it's all business and to the point but questions are certainly welcome and you'll get a concise answer in as few a words as possible usually... perfect. Look... this is the kind of guy that wants information in two sentences and he wants the second sentence first. Does the office smell like cigar/cigarette smoke? Yup, I don't smoke and I don't care that it does. I don't think I've ever meta a real welder/fabricator/blacksmith concerned about the smell of cigarette smoke for a few minutes. Is he gonna recommend stuff you don't need? Never has that been my experience any time I've been there. Will he answer all your questions? Absolutely... to the point and with expertise, even if others are waiting behind you. Is he a crusty dude from back in the day? Kinda, and personally I don't care... I even appreciate it. Does he smell like alcohol? Okay this is something that would concern me but I have not had that experience, not one single time. Will he hurt overly sensitive people's feelings? Maybe, but it isn't personal or on purpose... in no way is he mean. Is he mean? No, he isn't mean, he's just been working there every day for 40 years from 7:30am to 5pm except on Sundays (when he's still thinking about welding). Have you worked 10+ hours a day six days a week since Reagan was president? I seriously doubt it. Will he lead you down the wrong path? Absolutely not, unless you give him wrong or incomplete information but I think he would probably ferret that out and get you the right stuff in spite of misinformation. Is it expensive compared to other welding shops? A little... but I get quality stuff and I learn something every time I go. I appreciate experts who can answer any welding question and can sell you what you need on the spot... or make better recommendations to help you. Does he have stuff made in China? Every welding store on earth has stuff made in China. He probably has some but he has stuff made in all parts of the world including USA. He's not going to stock anything that's inferior. If you prefer made in USA just tell him. Did I walk in and get the full oxygen bottle and Victor regulator I needed in less than 15 minutes today? Yes, and 10 minutes was a tour of every size oxygen bottle he has from 20lb to huge commercial sizes... good to know. How much did my bottle and regulator cost? I won't tell you because prices fluctuate... but he did give me a decent discount since I ended up buying both items. My life experience proves that buying a higher priced one-time purchase beats having to buy five cheaper versions any day of the week and it will save money in the long run. Are refills expensive here? Well, common sense tells you to ask about refill pricing before you have a bottle filled so I don't see how some others are complaining about that. Good grief, this isn't rocket surgery, simply ask the price before you have your bottle filled. Also, unlike some bigger places, he's not going to put a proprietary valve on your bottle to force you to come back to him. You'll still be able to take your bottle anywhere else if you want to. And he's never even offered to exchange my bottle, he just fills it up and I pay and leave. Do some of the negative reviews sound like competitors trying to put him out of business? Actually ya, some do. If you value no BS expert knowledge at a place that has every welding related item you're likely to need and get it today this is your place. If you value long winded meaningless small talk or making close friends with strangers the same day you meet them then you probably won't be happy here. In the end it doesn't hurt to go check it out... we'll probably all leave Welders Heaven a little smarter if we just park our egos outside. read more

Had a 80 cu ft nitrogen bottle filled for $220.00. Whe I went to use it a week later it only had 1000 pounds pressure not the 2200 it should have had. If I ever was stupid enough to go back I would bring a regulator and check the pressure before I left. read more

Increasingly, we have become ever less reliant on local vendors for our engineering requirements and materials. We recently had the distinct misfortune to attempt to do business at "Welder's Heaven". The proprietor was not only in a seriously drunken quasi-conscious state, had the small, extremely messy front quarters so intensely smokey that, despite the room being quite small, we could barely even see across the room. This man has to be the most obnoxious cretin with whom I have the displeasure of ever encountering, and most certainly shall never do so again. There are numerous health and safety code violations there that are being totally ignored by the Santa Clara City authorities. This is obviously not a recent problem. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. I called ahead of time and the owner said he could fill up my personal tank. Came to the store and the man was drinking and smoking inside at 11am. We went to the back and then told me that he couldn't fill my tank but could only exchange it. "Same height, same weight, same shit". He gave me a crusty tank that was definitely not full. We walked up to the front and then told me that a my tank would cost $160 to fill up. I've filled my tank multiple times elsewhere and this guy was charging 4x the price. When I told him I'd pass he tried to rush me out without my original tank. After I got my tank and went to my car this man came up to my window and said he'd sell me the tank $145 final offer. I guess it was my fault for not questioning their prices. It is one of the only places open on Saturday. That being said, their prices are actually double or more. Ill be returning the entire purchase for a refund. They charge a 25% restocking fee. That way they can re sell the same items again. I checked out pricing for on average purchasing, not online. I came up with $298.21 To WELDERS HEAVEN PRICING @ $617.18 PLUS THE PROPRIETARY WAS DRINKING AND SMELLED OF ALCOHOL. Very disappointed in them. I rarely ever post on here, but here it goes. I called at 3:pm asking for cheater glasses 2.50, the guys says he has them. I say good I'm on my way I'm close by. I get there at 3:15pm and the F-ing door was locked. Said no big deal looks like a small shop maybe he's in back. So I decided to call him back and I suspect that guy gotta to be the owner says ohhhh he must just left for the day like it was no big deal. So I cussed him out over the phone for wasting my time and he hung up on me. No big deal about getting hung up on. C'mon it 3:15 in the afternoon. What if I had of driven an hour to get to you, then what? So from what I can see from standing outside, looks like a small supply store, service sucks cause owner will go home at anytime, then act like it's no big deal when he wastes your time. I use nitrogen to fill tires on my race cars. I needed a multi-size regulator wrench. Owner mumbled like I was wasting his time, I followed him over to a bin of those cheap stamped metal regulator wrenches, he took a silver Sharpie out of his shirt pocket & scribbled $39 on it. I know they cost about $7. He wanted $230 to refill my N2 cylinder! Praxair cost $60. But with Praxair & other gas distributers closed in past years I had little choice. After paying I looked around & saw many things weren't priced. He counts on your needs & ignorance as he prices things on the fly. Not an honest shop. read more

What a great resource. I thought my regulator had gone bad after 25 years of intermittent use. He was able to explain what probably happened, and gave me the info to troubleshoot and what to bring back Two hours later? (Me transporting stuff) he was able to quickly diagnose there was enough gas in the bottle to sound like gas, but really an almost empty bottle had no pressure Quickly refilled the bottle at very reasonable cost, gave some great advice, and tolerated a hobby-grade welder asking questions and being stupid I was very very pleased with everything that happened today / im back to welding - and I k ow where to go when I need parts, supplies, or even lessons Welders Heaven is not run by a bunch of customer-centric new/age hippies - Down to business with a guy who knows the business Thank you so much! read more

Horrible place. The guy that runs it is a drunk and items are very overpriced. Next time I will just drive to Martinez to East Bay Welding Supplies. I went there for a tig rig and told him I wanted a standard 150 Amp. He brings it out in the box and I leave. My bad for not closely inspecting it, because it was a 90 Amp. I drive an hour away for a test and look like a dumbass when I can't get the gas lens and cup on. Went to east bay and they hooked me up though. When I returned the items the guy started cussing me and telling me I must have requested a 90 Amp. Once again he reeked of beer and charged me a 25% return fee. Don't waste your time. Read reviews before you go. I think about 70% of people give this place 1 or 2 stars and the others showed up before he was drunk. read more

First and last time shopping here. Went to get a argon/co2 bottle refilled. hand the bottle over while the owner refills i look around then meet him at the register. Comes out to $100. I've never paid for then $60 for a bottle refill. O well I just chalked it up as being a really expensive welding supply house. I just came in to the store this morning to buy two bottom flange nuts for my grinder. The guy says he has them so I told him I will take two of them. When he goes to ring me up, the total is $54. Worst experience every time I've been there, the owner is scattered doesn't issue receipts and over charges. I had a Lincold weld pac 175hd with some missing parts for the welding wire spool, he fixed it after 2 days in his shop and charged me $100 for a washer and a wing nut. Didn't even give me what I asked which was for the larger spool with the drive mechanism. Then I was setting up my Tig welder and needed a bottle of Argon and he sold me a $400 bottle with either bad argon or not argon at all. I will never ever go back to that place. I don't understand the bad reviews. Ok, you can get it on amazon cheaper. Not by a lot though. Tig filler is maybe a dollar more. By far,,,The best part of this place is the selection. He's got everything. From a perfect German fab table to that one tig torch collet you need. All in stock. I've attached a couple quick photos of his shop. It's unbelievable how organized it is. I am generously giving Welder's Heaven 2 stars. One star because they have a good selection of welding equipment & consumables in stock and one star because they are open on Saturdays. I own a small business in Santa Clara and strongly prefer to support other locally owned brick & mortar business... but NOT Welder's Heaven. Here's why: * Their prices are absolutely outrageous. They charge $6.00/lb for 70S-6 welding wire, the other guys are $1.75/lb for the identical (same mfr) product. A 40ft^3 bottle of C25 is $70 at WH and $40 at the other guys. This is price-gouging plain and simple. * Their customer service is TERRIBLE. I stopped by a few weeks ago to grab a spool of MIG wire and was greeted by Mason (who had an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth and reeked of smoke). He was quick to tell me how I didn't know how my own welding equip' works (the machine that I've owned for 30+yrs), and went on to explain to me that "the difference between ER70S-2 and -6 is the amount of nickel content" (sorry Mason, the Ni is identical). There is just no excuse for a welding supply owner not having his basic metallurgy down-pat. read more

This place has everything a metal worker would need. Very organized. Yes it's a bit pricey so I wouldn't recommend for your own out of pocket home projects. I was a Union IronWorker for 12 years and now in the elevator builders trade. If I need any specific tool for my jobsite in a pinch this is the place to go. I felt at home with the knowledgeable owner and wanted to hang out and have a beer with him, but we both had work to do. He's not your typical kiss your ass customer serviceman, so if you need any quality welding product and you're not one of those easily offended politically correct bitches, I strongly suggest checking this place out. read more

I wish I'd read the other Yelp reviews before stopping here. Like a few other Yelpers, they gave me an out of date Argon tank, which cost me a $24 hydrostatic test fee when I went elsewhere to have it refilled. Other welding supply places keep a stock of filled tanks on hand so it's a simple swap. Only after my tank was unloaded from my car and rolled over to their storage area did they bother to inform me that they didn't have any filled tanks, and to come back in half an hour. A total waste of time for me as I had already finished my other errands in the area. After 15 minutes browsing the pet store next door (I did find a nice collar for my dog!), I checked on how things were going. The tank filling setup looked pretty Rube Goldberg to me, just filling my tank from a slightly larger tank, and didn't give me any confidence that I'd end up with a full tank at the end. After 30 minutes, I had to wait another 5 minutes for him to get off a personal call, then we spent more time searching for where he'd put the cap off the tank I'd brought in, finally giving up a finding another cap from another tank. Not professional at all. Today for a refill, I stopped at Alliance in San Jose and had the total opposite experience. Professional, helpful, good prices on tank refills. Recommended! read more

In short, great selection, *way high* prices but you can haggle using internet info) The Heavenly part: the store is dripping with welding stuff: tools, 30+ different styles/brands of gloves, clamps, tools, helmets, grinder wheels, different welders. A great place to browse and touch lots of tools you see on line and that the pro/commercial places don't carry in stock. The less Heavenly part to Beware: lots (most?) prices are *way high* and you'll get a 10 minute story about not being AirGas or large distributor. Lots of products don't have price tags on them. I bought a Millermatic211 (sweet rig!!) and was changed 'full price'. I decided to pay up to support this small store. When I returned home and went to submit warranty I saw that the price I paid was actually a promo package that included a $100 cart. The owner never mentioned the package deal or gave me the cart :(. Further, Miller was running a rebate for $200 and so I asked the owner if the rebate would work or if I would have problems. He said it would work fine and he "is well known with the Miller distributor and Miller too, since he does so much business selling Miller welders". He failed to mention that he is not a certified and the rebate failed. My Advice: Go to this store for a nice browse, enjoy the diversity and selection. The owner is knowledgeable and, like other reviews say, once you get used to the gruff sounds, he will share his knowledge. Before you pay anything, pull out your cell phone, use the barcode scanner app or product search to find the list price of the product. Then go to the owner and say "how much is this?" If his price doesn't match the list or market price you see on your phone, show him the phone and say I'll pay this price. He may give you a 7 minute lecture about how he doesn't know anything about the internet or online shopping. If you like, you can quote his own website which says 'We carry the major brands of welding and cutting equipment at margin of the cost!' (he may give you 7 minute story about how he doesn't even know what it says) If you treat this like a bazaar/market and do some haggling, you'll have a good time. read more

AVOID!!! I bring Mason a perfectly good tank of oxygen to fill and in return he gives me a half filled oxygen tank that expired 10 years ago and charges me $40.
