When we came to pick it up, they showed us how to use it. We had a minor issue when we got home and called them. They couldn't solve the issue on the call, so Roger came out right away to the house and fixed it! It's an employee owned company and it shows. I rented 2KW electrical generator. The process was easy and the generator worked well and easily. I used it for about an hour and it hardly used any gas. They checked the gas and it seemed not full and topped it off, but luckily didn't charge as there really wasn't anything to add. The service desk had multiple representatives and there was no queue. I've rented several items from them during projects at my house. It's easier to appreciate Dahl's once you've tried to rent from somewhere else. The staff at Dahl's is very knowledge about all the tools you rent. They always give you a quick tutorial on the equipment before you rent. Their tools are always in good running order. If you have any issues with the tools, you can call them and they offer good phone support. If the issue can't be troubleshooted over the phone, they will bring a replacement and they arrive very promptly. Tip: Since they're closed Sunday, if you pick up the tool on Saturday and return it Monday morning, they only charge you a one day rental. read more

So the owner emailed me a few times after my review, I tried getting an answer from him why equipment they had on my property according to their website should have cost $2,500 but the pre-lien they placed on my house was $15,000. Even if they placed the maximum 20 days of the pre-lien it should have been $7,500, and in the end I had to pay them $4,000 to get a lien release. He would not answer this after a few emails, he did tell me that my contractor owed them a lot of money, but he would not tell me why he thought it was a good idea to get extra money out of property owners that don't owe it to them to cover the costs of their bad business transactions. I also asked him a few times why his general manager Jeff King refused to look at the proof that we only had their equipment for a week and instead he wanted to put the maximum 20 days allowed by the lien law, but he would not answer this as well. So stay away from them if you or your contractor gets into a financial problems with them they will abuse the lien law to get as much money out of the property owners to cover their costs. As you can see from my example they they set their pre-lien at 6 times the amount they were rightfully owed by me and my contractor. As it was they got almost double of what I should have owed them to get a lien release. read more

I was referred to Dahl by my tree trimmer. I rented a trencher, the trencher pulled left because only the right tire at times would turn. The pull start on the unit hurt several adult men's wrist, including the Dahl employee who checked it in. The unit was full of gas when we returned it because it didn't really get used. We struggled to get it reloaded to return it. The carburetor was bone dry. I still was billed 135.00 when I returned it. Still I attempted to rent another piece of equipment, but had not gotten a email confirmation. So I called got Jeff. The equipment I wanted wasn't available. I was offered a larger bobcat but not for the same cost. An additional 350.00 + 300 would be my new cost. Basically I was told take it or leave it. "Call back when you work it out in your budget". This is Unacceptable customer service and Rude... I want bother your company again. HD supply and A1 will be my tool rental companies. read more

Nowhere in Santa Cruz County can I rent a plasma cutter....nowhere. Even though Dahl's is a 45-55 minute drive they had them in stock. Counter guys are pleasant and the yard workers/loaders are too. Get home set everything up, plug the compressor into a separate 20 amp circuit, the plasma into a 40 amp circuit. Power up, hit the trigger, start torching the metal and it flames out. Recheck all connections and it continues to flame out every 4-5 seconds. WTF. Drive back to Dahl's thinking I've got a defective unit. Explain to the yard worker what is happening and he gets Jesus, the mechanic. Jesus takes me back to his shop to test the plasma. Jesus explains the Miller plasma is finicky and does not like to be plugged into an extension cord longer than 6 feet and it must 12 gauge wire or better. He also grounds the plasma to the same 1/4 inch steel plate he is cutting. OK, doing it this way the plasma works great. Head home. Plug plasma directly into socket bypassing extension cord and ground it to the links I need to cut. Cut through the titanium hardened steel link like butter. These links withstood a 42 inch 4000lb bolt cutter and carbide power saw blades. Good experience as Dahl's not only has small tools but some heavy duty four wheel types too. I definitely will be back if I need something I can't find locally. read more

Professional, accommodating, helpful and good quality rental equipment. Rented a bobcat on tracks from Dahls. Was working mostly on weekend plus a bit during the week being a homeowner. Dahls team basically set it up with me to use it based on hours used vs. time it was at job site. For me this worked perfectly! Was also happy they don't do the warranty scam like lots of other places because if you read the fine print it really don't do much. When asked they said unless you just flat out break it (which those warranty's the other places sell you don't cover anyway) they won't charge me. Basically if it's from normal wear and tear no issue. About a day into using the bobcat it started bogging down - they sent a truck out (at job site in under 2 hrs) and replaced the diesel hand pub saying that should fix it and said call if it happens again. Worked great... Oh delivery of the bobcat, once again was extremely flexible on drop off - p/u time. Based on my experience I personally will never go to another rental yard, these guy's have earned my business going forward. Yes I've used quite a few other yards - none of them compare! read more

I have rented light equipment from Dahl's just a few times over the last few years, but I have always been satisfied with experience. From the counter check out/in of equipment, the explanation of how to use that equipment (knowledgeable and thorough) by the employees and the equipment always working well, etc. But today they went above and beyond what I considered necessary and they have a customer for life now. It is convenient for me to go to Dahl's from my house, but I would drive out of my way now to do business with them. read more

These guys care more about their frickin equipment than helping customers. Manager never looked me in the eye, man to man, only scanned me head to toe, then gave an answer to my question to his underling instead of to me directly. Deposit quoted on the phone was $80 but at time of rental was $100. Place was uptight and I sure wouldn't want to work there! The guys out back were helpful. I was very happy with the customer service and the equipment I rented at Dahls. I thought I needed a carpet blower to dry out some wet carpet- the counter guy explained that a dehumidifier would really take the moisture out of the air, speeding up the drying time and eliminate any mold from growing in the carpet pad. Great place, good equipment, super nice people. There's so many things I like about this business, I don't know where to start. There is one disclosure to note: I've only rented from them once. The first thing I noticed about them was their website. It's really top drawer! Easy to use and terribly valuable, it helped me ID what I wanted to rent, how much it cost, and I submitted a reservation request. It's one of the best small business websites I've ever encountered. BTW: The cost was terribly reasonable too, especially if you pickup on Sat and return Mon morning, you only pay for one day. The tool I rented worked perfectly, they were very happy that I cleaned it up so well, and they didn't charge me anything extra even though I was a few minutes after the cutoff time. In fact, they didn't even mention it. I will rent more tools there and buy fewer tools because I know I can rent them for less. read more
