If you need something new or have something old that needs servicing, their prices are in line, and their staff is knowledgeable. The one thing keeping them from a 5th star is their ridiculous 30% restocking fee. If you buy something and want to return it unused, that's a pretty raw deal. So, before you buy something from them, make dang sure you need it. Other than that, this is a great shop. read more

I've lived in Campbell my whole life and had no idea this place existed until my fiancé asked me to go with him to pick up his Honda lawnmower that needed to be serviced. Who knew lawnmowers needed to be serviced?! Apparently, this is the only location in the Bay Area that services lawn equipment. We lucked out with parking right out front, but this place gets busy so you may need to park on the street. Minus 1-star for each of the following: All-in we paid $299 for the service (parts and labor) which I honestly thought was kind of expensive given that you could buy a brand new lawnmower for a few hundred bucks more, but who am I to say as I'm not the one actually mowing our front lawn. Service is EXTREMELY SLOW. We walked in and took a number right away and the 2 cashiers were already helping customers. I saw ~6 employees walk throughout the store while I was waiting to be called up. An older Hispanic gentleman actually cut the line and went straight to the cashier without having a number. Yesterday I went in to see why my generators battery (which I bought there almost 4 years ago) was dead after trying to charge it for weeks before. This was the first time we went to try and start it since we bought it and moved North. We decided to drive down and bring it in to see what was going on. I bought the generator for emergency purposes when our area in Campbell lost power in hopes to have a back up in the event it happened again.. Before leaving home on the day I bought the generator, we were shown how to use it (and video taped that) but we were never told anything else. The employee then told us that it was our responsibility to read the manual and had we done that we would have known we needed to run it every month for a few hours. I was shocked in that response. Had I been given all the necessary information about maintaining the battery at the purchase, which would have helped me avoid this issue beforehand, I would have been happy to accept this as my responsibly. Instead I'm left having to purchase a new battery (they sell) for almost $300.00. I feel really disappointed. Even worse is the battery they want to change for almost $300.00 is the same one on Amazon for over $100.00. Exact same brand. I feel they could have offered to sell me a new one at their cost for the inconvenience, and that would have been acceptable, rather I was told to come back in a few days since they were out of stock at the time. I have been going here for many many years and purchased many items along the way for both my home and my business. I always felt like I was treated kindly, respectfully, and always received such good service. Just not this time. I've bought several Honda® generators from them a few years ago and bring them in annually for service. The Good: *Customer service is always friendly and efficient. *Prices are on-par or even cheaper than the "big box" stores for similar items. *They do Purchase Order (PO) billing if that's how your company does business. *My generators are always serviced very quickly. They always give a 7-10 business day quote but that's just a CYA, as most of the time they're turned-around in 1-3 days in my experience. *Authorized Warranty Service Center for: Honda, STIHL, Echo, Shindaiwa, Husqvarna, Exmark and Mean Green. The Meh: *They recently instituted a pull-a-number counter service method (like a butcher shop) but they don't ever really call the numbers. I was helped with a string trimmer part by a young guy and Abel but the parts were incorrect. I did not get a refund but only store credit. The description says "$30 labor or store credit per 109". I went to get a new head for a string trimmer but fortunately needed to bring the machine in as well as the head. Cost of about $138 was mentioned. I found, at another place, the head for $21. Works well. So I go for saw chain and Abel says my credit is for labor only, see above. So they effectively stole my $30 that I have an invoice for. Mr. Gabe Foo and his staff (especially Ms. Fernanda Alcocer) made my FIRST-ever robot mower purchase [Husqvarna Automower 435X AWD] such a hassle-free & customer-centric experience that I felt as if I had purchased it IN THE STORE instead of online from over 2,400 miles away (Michigan)! Today my husband took our rototiller to Gardenland to repair a broken gear shift mechanism. They took a quick look and said it's just a broken drive pin. should be a quick fix. So the technician had a variety of different drive pins but non of them fit. He took one that was a little too big, went into his shop and milled it down. The fabricated pin fit perfectly. The technician said he needed to change the oil, spark plug, and filter on the tiller. The oil change was free because we had purchased it there 5 years ago. the spark plug was $6.29 and the filter $6.25. So an hour after my husband showed up at Gardenland, he left with a working rototiller with fresh oil, and a new spark plug & air filter. This is the first time in my husbands life that he has received WORLD CLASS SERVICE on anything that he has ever owned! read more

Wasn't too happy with the service today. Tried calling for a fuel inlet fitting, should be a rather common part. Got put on hold for a few minutes, and after realizing that I was going to be on hold for a while decided to just stop by the shop since it wasn't too far out of my way. There was 2 people at the counter helping one guy. I didn't understand why. After he left one of them asked me what I needed and I gave him a printout with the part# and a picture of the part. He told me they don't have the part, but they could order it for me, but it'd be more expensive than ordering online. He went and got his manager, who told me, "OH NO THAT PART NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED WITH HEAT! THOSE THINGS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO FALL OFF" I've watched about 3 or 4 youtube videos on installing this part. None of them use heat, and why would you? It's a plastic part. I felt like the next words out of his mouth were going to be, "Let us charge you $100 to install this $5 part!" Found another shop in town with the part and without the attitude. Called, they found the part right away, and they even matched amazons price. 1 star for the candy dish though. Tried to buy a Stihl 500i saw, was told by the general manager they were in stock, to place the order online, placed order 45 minutes later. Then told by sales rep the next morning that they were sold out, that I could pre-pay for one and would get one next week. Was told my order was cancelled because of bad address, checked address and they said I had to submit again. I did, same results, so they said submit again the next day. I used a different card, and submitted it all again. My bank called to make sure it was not a fraud, they said the transaction was approved. Garden land sales rep said it was denied again, and I would have to come in personally. In addition when I asked about getting a different bar setup was told they would have to order a complete different saw, I guess they don't know how to pull one bar off and put another on. Bought an echo blower 6-months ago to keep my yard clean since we have a lot of trees shedding leaves all the time. After two tanks of gas the owners manual requires a carburetor adjustment, and not wanting to screw with it I took it to Gardenland. Busy store with professional yard maintenance trucks in and out. I waited a short time while they made the adjustments. SInce I didn't buy it there they charged me a a fee, but nocked 50% off what they normally charge, so in turn I bought four quarts of premixed fuel for my blower. read more

Please be careful with this company. In multiple occasions, I noticed that their advice and feedback is driven by greed and by how they will generate most revenue. The latest happened last month when I took my STIHL gasoline-powered blower for repair (which I had purchased from them a couple of years ago). The repair man told me by just looking it at and by me describing the problem that I had destroyed the machine by not using the right gasoline mix. He said that only parts would cost me $150 and then the labor. He immediately recommended that I buy from them an electric blower. Given that he brought to my attention that I had used the wrong gasoline (without oil inside), I went home and I changed on my own the gasoline to the premix type that I could buy from Home Depot. Immediately after that the blower started working. In prior time, the owner tried to sell me a preassembled Honda mower with 1st maintenance price added to the price that I had to pay for machine. Why would anybody do that? I bought it from Home Depot, was not a floor preassembled part and more than a year later I have not had a need to do any maintenance. So be careful! They do have the skills to do the right thing, but I think they are directed by greed and by their desire to increase sales. Because of that, they do not always recommend what might be the most favored solution for their customer. There is of course a risk by exploring options that some may not work, but can you imagine that after a few years, for home use, they immediately directed me to spend over $300 for a new blower rather than first asking me to change the gasoline I was using and see if that might fix the problem? Not good! I cannot also forget that the owner also sold me once a Premium Pruner (German) with life guarantee! After one spends all this money, you think about it and you debate whether you did the right decision.... For sure what happened with the blower and the mower convinced me on their selling and marketing strategy towards home owners. If I can help it, I will not shop there again. read more

With the economy down, one of the many things I had to let go was my beloved gardener...sorry Mr P..so as a homeowner, I became a weekend gardener-wanna-bee. They shouldn't let a high-tech marketing guy touch anything that cuts or slices, since all we ever do is draw up hockey-stick projections & forecasts on power points. However, I'm trying. This place is a great place to get in depth knowledge. My Ryobi weed-wacker had wacked its last weed. Something to do with using 1:50 oil to gasoline ratio--PRECISELY mixed. OK, sticking your finger in the wind and guesstimating what 1/50th might look like in a 0.2 gallon fuel container is not a thing to do. If you're wrong, and insufficient oil is mixed, you end up seizing the 2 stroke cylinder. How does it manifest itself? You can pull start that damn chord until you're blue in the face, and you will not start an already dead horse. Gardenland to the rescue. After pointing out what not deploying 1:50 oil means to machinery, I was told to deep-6 the Ryobi. Luckily, they sell Stihl, line trimmers here. At H Depot, they would have just sold me the weed-wacker, wacked some weed and made me do the same mistake--hey that's great for sales isn't it? ROI would be great. At Gardenland, guess what? They made me watch an MPEG-4, 2 minute video on the innards of a Stihl weed line trimmer wacker...I was being educated!! Not only that, after they sold me the equipment, they had one of their employees go over this equipment with me as if they were selling me an AR-15 military rifle or something. Now that's customer service!! It's no wonder they had a line of professional gardeners queued up at 9am in the morning. Good thing Mr. P wasn't there. OK, OK, I was late for my 9:30 power point presentation, but hey, I have an anecdote or an antidote to tell our Toronto/Montreal sales team (I think there's still snow on the ground there in May so they couldn't relate). At least once a year, the primer bulb assembly on my Toro mower needs replacing. The combination of my not-so-manly thumbnail and the downside of ethanol blended fuel result in the thing wearing through prematurely and regularly. I do call first, but Gardenland has always had the primer bulb assembly I need in stock. I toddle over there, exchange a modest amount of cash for the part, and am on my way lickety-split. Parts counter is always helpful, prices are competitive and I like taking a browse through the pro equipment on hand. read more

This shop is set up more for workers and hands on homeowners. However if you need to buy equipment that will last a long time this is the place. They have everything that you need or want for maintaining your yard. They can fix or tune up most equipment. We bring our lawn mower here at the end of the season they clean it up and set it up for a prefect spring start. They clean some of our other tools too. If you want something cheap ie. plastic equipment this is not the place. Go to HD instead. Price range for the products that they carry fall into good. However if you are looking for things that will only last a season or two you will find them to be pricey(because they don't sell them). I purchased a roller-tiller from Gardenland Power Equip. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and ready to assist you with any questions you may have on what they sell. No high pressure sales either. They sell the equipment "out of box", meaning they will put it together, put gas & oil in, test it out and then give it to you. Along with that you will get a free coupon to bring it in after a period of time for an oil change and adjustment. Prices are not cheap but reasonable because they sell higher end power tools than what you would find at Home Depot or OSH. Once in a while they will have a no sales tax day or 10% off. 4-Stars only because the parking is extremely limited and these people are very busy, so most times you will NOT find available parking. Also, the front counter may also be extremely busy so you will have to wait quite a bit for service. read more

I recently came here to get a new set of blades for my Honda lawnmower. I had heard and driven by this place for years but had never stopped in. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of equipment they carry. I'm sure most gardeners and landscaper professionals shop here. The selection is all higher end equipment you won't find at Home Depot, Lowe's, or OSH. I took a peek at their service department and it looked like a auto repair shop, complete with lifts. Tried calling them about lawn mower repair but it took a while to get any specialist at the shop so decided to just stop by. I brought my mower and showed it to them. I already purchased a brand new carburetor and asked them to replace it. Even though I brought the replacement materials, their charge of repairing or replacing it would cost up to $150. They said most likely it would be close to $150 only. I can buy a new model of the same brand for roughly $200. Had I known this would be the service I get, I would've ordered a brand new model online instead and never come to the shop. I called another shop and they spent a lot explaining how to replace the carburetor correctly and I did it by myself after that. read more
