I went to this practice for a long time..At first I liked the depth of the visits and the integrative approach. After a while, I was frustrated with the 1.5 hour visits (ALWAYS an hour of waiting) and what felt like over analyzing every little lab detail and constant adjustments (which turned out to be unnecessary). I now see a good endocrinologist (still out of pocket) but results are better and process much simpler, more effective and less expensive! read more

This is the place for you if you are okay with: 1) Waiting for over 45 minutes after your appointment time. 2) Being rushed through your appointment now because the doctor is running profusely late. 3) Getting charged the full $600 an hour even though the doctor didn't spend an hour with you. 4) Not getting all of your questions answered because the doctor is now rushed. 5) Sub-par medical knowledge and being advised to take supplements with no detail as to when/how to take said supplements. I waited to see if things would change with this practice, but they did not. It was always the same story... the doctor is running profusely late. Dr. Conrad has a complete disregard for other people's schedules and obligations. News flash, we have jobs. You know, the thing that pays for out of pocket visits like this. I changed practices and now have a better doctor that gives more detailed information and I trust. I learned that no one should be on the same probiotic for more than 3 months. She had me on the probiotic for over a year and an OTC at that! Not even a good quality one. Gut health is so important, but she overlooked it. Not impressed, and this practice was the most expensive one I found out there. Look elsewhere. Just because it says its functional medicine, not all practitioners know what they are doing. I am a big believer in holistic medicine and integrative health and wellness, which is what this practice is. But be aware that if you end up having a serious medical issue, in my opinion, this is NOT a safe place to get medical care. I started seeing Dr. Lemmerman back in 2004 when she was a practice in Alexandria. Dr. Lemmerman claimed to specialize in thyroid issues and was written up by in an article by one of her patients - this what gave her some recognition, which is how I found her practice. I had been tired and achy for some time, which was out of the normal for me. My dad had thyroid issues, so I thought something might be wrong with my thyroid. Dr. Lemmerman was very caring and attentive, she listened and each visit was at least 45 minutes to an hour. She doesn't take insurance and each office visit was $200 - $400. After explaining that my "normal range" thyroid results weren't actually normal, she put me on thyroid medications but also wanted me to also see an endocrinologist and recommended a few in my area. I saw three endocrinologists in the Northern Virginia area, including one she recommended (Dr. Tannen, since retired), and they all REFUSED to treat me if I continued to see her because she was not qualified in endocrinology (she is an internist). This should have been my first warning. But I was still feeling tired and achy so I took the thyroid medication, which didn't help significantly but I was told to give it time. When I tried to refill the thyroid medication she would not refill without seeing me (this was well before telemedicine) but she didn't have any appointments for months and had one only written a one month prescription. I was in a quandary - I couldn't get a refill without seeing her but she didn't have an appointment to see me. Moreover, the office staff was so rude when I explained the absurdity of refusing to refill and then not having any appointments I was hung up on. So I stopped taking the thyroid medication. But I really believed something was wrong and Dr. Lemmerman seemed to care and she listened. She then prescribed a "natural" hormone after a $400 spit test showed that my hormone levels were "off" ($700 for the entire visit). The natural hormone (DHEA - which I had to purchase in her office) gave me severe cramps and breakthrough bleeding. I tried to make an appointment to see her but again, she was booked months out. My OBGYN (who I adore and trust implicitly) also said she would drop me if I continued to see her for any hormone "treatment." But I still held out hope that somehow Dr. Lemmerman would find out why I was so tired and achy. Finally, I came down with a weird pain in my neck and some weird heart palpitations. Dr. Lemmerman again thought things were hormone/thyroid related said my neck vertebrae were not aligned. She did some in-office chiropractic work on me (an additional $200 on top of a $200 office visit), which left my neck "off" for years. When I came back because the neck pain persisted and asked if she would order a CT she said "you need to ask your regular doctor." I was stunned. I considered her to be my doctor. That was the final straw. I ended up finding a really good concierge doctor, which in the end costs less than seeing Dr. Lemmerman. This other "real" doctor assisted in diagnosing my very real health issues: one of which required surgery for a rare potentially life-threatening issue (Eagle's Syndrome). The other issue that explained why I was tired and achy and my digestion was off was simple - I had a gluten intolerance AND I was slightly overweight (15 lbs). After years of thyroid and hormone remedies, all I had to do was change my diet and start exercising (really exercising, not just walking around the block). Dr. Lemmerman never even addressed my weight issue, which I understand nobody wants to hear, but I needed to. So in the end, if you are willing to spend a lot of serious $$ for this practice, just be aware that you could be putting your health at risk. read more

How I went as a patient here for over a year and missed a FTR is beyond me. But no matter. Dr. Clamp has been a Godsend - she tested me with a battery of tests, patiently explained everything I needed to know, and got my thyroid back in check. Despite other endocrinologists' treatment plans of "eat less" and "take your Synthroid," Dr. Clamp listened and tailored my plan to where now I've not only dropped 15 pounds out of the 30 gained since this problem emerged, but also have the old energy back. If you're not there already and have removed/ablated your thyroid, get there now. She or Dr. Lemmerman will ensure that you're on track to live normally again. read more

I was desperate and willing to pay the hefty fee. I couldn't get in to see Dr. Lemmerman so I assumed all doctors in the practice were at her caliber. WRONG. Even though you have to fill lot alot of paperwork beforehand, at least half of the visit was taken up by being asked more questions that the nurse AND then the dr entered into a computer. Dr shiffman was extremely aloof and uncaring. She seemed very distracted during my appt. There was very little time left to discuss my issue after answering all the general health questions during my appt. All in all, I paid $400 for a thyroid panel. I feel ripped off. read more

First, I will start by saying that the reviews on the doctors are wonderful. I'm sure that they do great work with their patients. Unfortunately, I have to echo the same sentiments as other reviewers regarding their front desk staff. I needed to reschedule my appointment due to my husbands work schedule (I am a stay at home mom). The front desk staff was incredibly rude. She acted dismissive and every time I called she acted as though she had an elitist attitude. I believe her name was Illianna (or something similar). It is incredibly difficult to find a doctor who can really focus on the patient as a whole and I believe this office has the doctors to do so. The front line people in their office who give you the first impression unfortunately, are leaving a very bad first impression. read more

Disheartened and frustrated after my experience with this practice. They charge a fortune and the physicians don't give detailed guidance and feedback. You will pay an arm and leg just to meet with a doctor that you have extremely limited information about ahead of time, no option for a brief initial consult, and no assurance that they can help with your case (even despite being clear and specific with all questions and concerns up front). I have hashimotos autoimmune and work incredibly hard to live a healthy lifestyle. I was given a generic prescription and nothing else. I would not recommend this place for anyone seeking help with comprehensive, thorough care and/or athletic performance optimization. Not only this, but my most recent doctor left the practice last minute and did less than the bare minimum of follow-up care, with hardly any communication. There was also no recommendations or planned transfer/continuation of care to a new doctor within the practice. When I explained my poor experience to the head nurse/manager, and expressed the massive uncertainty I had of continuing on with the practice and seeing someone else, without knowing much about them: I was rudely told on the phone to "just make up your mind, do you want an appointment or not?" I traveled from a different state to be a new patient here, and it was a complete waste of time and money. read more

Just called this practice which was recommended by my gynecologist as we are seeking all possible solutions for my daughter's chronic migraines. I was astonished to find out that a consultation would be $400 and subsequent visits $300. They don't take any insurance. It's outrageous and so wrong to say for these doctors to claim that they're interested in helping people when clearly they are ONLY interested in helping WEALTHY people. read more

Just tried to get an appointment with Dr Lemmerman. She is not taking any new patients currently and hasn't since 2013. I'm on a waiting of list of 100 people. I was offered the other 2 doctors at this practice. I asked the receptionist I had on the phone if she could help me figure out which of the 2 would be the best fit for me. Her response was less than helpful, not friendly and not courteous and quite frankly didn't care to help me in any way. Not a good first impression. So disappointing when an awesome doctor has staff like this. read more

I have ongoing, complicated Hypothyroidism with reverse T3 issues that have been unable to be resolved by other doctors. In fact, I am fairly certain that one unnamed doctor would have done me in had I continued to see him! Dr. Clamp is undoubtedly the most progressive doctor I have ever met, and this is no small feat as I am a nurse with more than 20 years experience as an RN in ICU's. She LISTENS!! actively, Takes what the patient says without any judgement, and actually uses the patient's account of their own story/symptoms to help make a diagnosis. She even asks "What do YOU think?" frequently. As a nurse with a Masters degree, this is the first time this has ever happened to me!! The other thing I love is that she doesn't act like MY lab results are some secret mystery from the heavens! She allows me to see them, keep a copy, and explains them in GREAT detail! On to her staff. Many times, when I have found a wonderful doctor, it seems that the staff is just awful. I don't fully understand this, but it is just what seems to happen. However, with Dr. Clamp, even the staff, from the front desk staff, to the billing, through the nurses, ALL ARE GREAT! I love everyone of them! Theresa, Sharon, Jill, and the sweet Scottish lasses..they are polite, respectful, and do their very best to ensure that, what could be a very difficult health time, is much easier. The single complaint that I have, is that my insurance, and all insurances, for that matter, are out of network. So it is expensive. I look at it like , you can't put a price on health. I am very satisfied with Dr. Clamp and her friendly staff. I have been going there for the last six years for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Dr. Clamp is the only doctor I've met so far that listened to my symptoms and not just go by my lab results. The only doctor I've met who ordered comprehensive blood tests (both Ab's, TSH, Free T4 & T3, RT3, Vitamins & Mineral levels, DHEA, AM Cortisol..) She even ordered a bone scan, mammogram, and Thyroid ultrasound.to figure out what is going on. I always get a copy of my lab results that she reviews with me at the office and leave with a list of recommendations. I suffered for 21 years before getting better with Dr. Clamp. read more

They take ALL of your personal & private information FIRST for what reason I do not know. They promise to call back & never do. When I first came to Dr. Clamp I was a stressed mess. Both my primary care physician and an endocrinologist said that my thyroid levels were normal and that I needed to get on anti-anxiety medication, or had some other issue. Having had my thyroid ablated in 1991, at the age of 20, I had gone through the gamut of thyroid symptoms and was more 99% certain that my issue was a thyroid imbalance. Sure enough, after more in depth tests, Dr. Clamp determined that my reverse t3 levels where not what they should be and were making the overall test results look ok, when they really weren't. Dr. Clamp asked me many questions, and had me tested for other imbalances...I was very very deficient in Vitamin D, among some other things. After careful monitoring, and follow up discussions, I was back to my old, energetic and even tempered self. Doctor Clamp also carefully monitored my thyroid levels while I was pregnant, and I am now a happy, 41 year old mother of a happy and healthy boy. I can't say enough about how important having Dr. Clamp in my life has been.
