I was a patient of this practice for over 30 years spending thousands of dollars for treatments which contributed to its success. This practice sells supplements in its online store. However, they don't publish possible contraindications/side effects of the supplements. When I bought one of the supplements and asked the office staff to please clarify what contraindication/side effects the supplement might have, they could not provide the information and refused to check with a medical staff member. I was told I would need to make an appointment with a physician, which costs hundreds of dollars (they do not participate with insurance), in order to learn what side effects a supplement has that they have provided the general public access to. Seems notoriety and money have become this practice's priority over their patients' wellbeing. read more

I had the worst experience of my life with Dr. Kaplan and the Kaplan Center and highly recommend against going here. If I could, I'd give this practice zero stars. Here's my story: - I went to the Kaplan Center with a headache and light dizziness and was immediately "diagnosed" with Lyme disease - I was given an extremely large dose of antibiotics, which I was supposed to take for 6 months or more, and which made me as sick as I've ever been in my life - After a month of "treatment" I went to a few infectious disease experts who told me that the labs used for my diagnosis were widely untrusted throughout the medical community, and that Dr. Kaplan's treatment was *far* outside the standard of care - I found another more traditional doctor who was able to give me an appropriate diagnosis and got better Anyone who does use this clinic should, in my opinion, be extremely skeptical of any diagnosis for any infectious disease. I have taken two family members here. One with a complicated autoimmune illness has been treated by Dr. Kaplan. He is inquisitive and leaves no stone unturned, diagnosing what had been missed by prior physicians. My daughter saw Dr. Lisa about her Vitiligo and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. After thousands of dollars out of pocket in tests and visits she saw absolutely no improvement. Not only that, but when she was sick and unable to make an appointment they had no sympathy or care and would not allow the appointment to be cancelled without $150 charge. A Few Red Flags for hiring any Physician Here are some red flags that should raise your eyebrows when working with any physician -They don't seem to weigh the cost/benefit of tests or overly recommend expensive testing. For example, sometimes you can eliminate items from your diet as opposed to having testing done. Be sure to be honest about your financial limitations so they can work with you to find the best solution for your health and your wallet. -They don't think diet is very important. -They recommend overly expensive and excessive supplements. -They recommend harsh or dangerous detoxes. -They promise you cures. -They make you feel uncomfortable or don't listen to you. -They make you feel powerless or discouraged. This is sage advice from a functional physician. Dr. Kaplan said to me when I questioned him about all of the Glutathione infusions and the fact that my husband seemed worse and I asked him about mast cell activation...he said, "Sweetie, you need to get off the internet." A solid doctor often has 3 traits: Competency, Curiosity & Caring. Gary Kaplan replaced these with CASH. Only in retrospect did it become clear that GK structured a sales model designed to 'embed' sick & desperate patients into expensive billing. He would: 1) order novel/expensive tests from questionable labs, 2) interpret tests to indicate more treatment, and 3) push extra services/products. All while promising results were 'just around the corner'. GK expressed no interest in a patient relationship. He set a timer at the exam room door, asked preset questions, spoke in pseudo-intellectual terms, scornfully reacted to questions, and left when the 'time bell sounded'. He continued to VEHEMENTLY advise that 2nd opinions NOT be obtained-actually impugning other highly accredited experts. ONLY AFTER BREAKING AWAY FROM KAPLAN WAS A DX/CURE FOUND! IT WAS ABSOLUTELY HEARTBREAKING TO LOOK BACK AND REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. His newest marketing/billing seems to be the 'science' of COVID recovery. One opinion - caveat emptor. read more

In December, 2019, I suffered from insomnia, muscle spasms, dizziness, tinnitus, and fatigue following a reaction to prolo therapy in my neck and shoulder and excessive amount of acupuncture treatments at another office. I can't say enough good things about Dr Sheehan. He took the time to respond to my concerns during the appointments and responded very promptly to my health concerns and inquiries through the portal after each appointment. He is not quick to prescribe sleeping pills. Instead, he recommended muscle relaxants to get to the core of he problem and I regained my sleep within a month, after the inflammation settled down. I am still dealing with the other annoying symptoms and I am now seeing an internist at Kaplan to tackle them (Dr. Sheehan is a spine specialist). Will post an update later. read more

I wish that I could put into words how grateful I am for Dr Gary Kaplan and the staff at Kaplan Center. I wish that I had found Dr. Gary 19 years ago. My life would be so much different. In 2001, when I was just 13 years old, my health issues began with a sprained ankle. We have been to over 20 specialist, participated in patient trials, had hundreds of procedures, tried old and new medicine, and anything anyone else suggest to try to relieve the incredible amount of symptoms I was experiencing the worst of which were pain, fatigue, gastrointestinal, and head aches. We went to a specialist for each of my symptoms. Doctors were able to put a bandaid on the situation enough for me to live as normal of a life as possible. So many times the doctors would say "this is my hail mary - if this doesn't work - you will need to go to a different doctor". I had given up on doctors and was trying to live my life the best that I could. That is when I found Dr. Gary. One of my friends persistantly suggested that I visit Kaplan Center. I have been a patient of Dr. Gary's since January 2018 and I can honestly say I have HOPE for my future. Having hope and being able to make plans for what my future can hold instead of just trying to make it through each day is one of the amazing benefits I have received since I began treatments at the Kaplan Center. I am eternally grateful for Dr. Gary and the staff as they continue to work tirelessly to help me regain my life back. The standard of care at Kaplan Center is so different than that of any office I have been to. Every time I call into the office I speak to a live human being (not a recording). If I have to leave a message I never go longer than 24 hrs without getting a call back - most of the time within just a few hours of calling. I went to the Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine for what I understood to be a $475 mold toxicity test. Imagine my surprise when I later found out that the $475 charge was really for a mandatory new patient exam, which I didn't want, need, or even know about, and that the mold toxicity test would cost me an additional $399. When I called Kaplan to complain about being misled, they just called me a liar and refused to give me a refund. read more

After being referred by another therapist for chronic neck pain, making an appointment with a PT here and telling the receptionist where I was referred from when I made the appointment, and then spending 45 minutes completing a dozen new patient forms, I arrived to be told I couldn't be seen without a MD referral. Fair enough but you need to tell people that in advance if it is required for their visit. No one seemed the least bit concerned about the inconvenience of making a would-be patient come to the office only to not be seen. Would not recommend this practice to anyone. I have been so thankful for everything the Kaplan Center has provided me. I initially went for a new diagnosis of Hashimoto's. Tackled that with Dr. Erika and we then started talking about my chronic migraines from a shoulder injury. I then met with Dr. John who diagnosed a nerve problem from a torn labrum. A few PRP sessions and PT with the amazing Michelle (seriously.....she is the bomb), the headaches are getting under control. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS REVIEW AS WELL AS THE ADDITIONAL 1 STAR REVIEWS. THEY OFFER THE "REAL PICTURE" OF THE KAPLAN CLINIC. After three years of treatment for chronic lyme, I left my original Lyme doctor in Los Angeles because I could not get my prescriptions filled after the pharmacy repeatedly faxed and called the practice. (The practice's manager repeatedly lied about the faxes and blamed the pharmacy [It is not uncommon with doctor's practices to dump on the pharmacies!]. Wash, Rinse, Repeat at The Kaplan Clinic! The Kaplan Clinic charged me thousands of dollars for tests and treatments that were out of date and were not the current standard of care for Lyme Disease. If you are thinking of going to The Kaplan Clinic for Lyme Disease, forget about it! They have jumped on the "Lyme cash cow" without having the expertise to treat this difficult medical condition. After spending a fortune at The Kaplan Center For Integrative Medicine, I went back to my original Integrative Medical doctor after learning that my original functional medical doctor was able to address my health issues, unlike The Kaplan Clinic as well as at other practices that claim to treat Lyme Disease. (1) After adjusting my high blood pressure medicine dosage, Dr. Lilienfield sent the wrong (old) blood pressure medication prescription to the Medicine Chest. So I paid $23 for a prescription that I could not use. The pharmacy repeatedly contacted The Kaplan Center for the corrected prescription for weeks and could not get any response. By submitting the wrong prescription to the pharmacy, I lost my ability to have single refills through CVS/CAREMARK, my prescription insurance company. (After two prescriptions, CVS switched my medication to a maintenance dose. This requires that I purchase 3 months of the drug at a time before it could be determined whether the medication was working correctly.) (2) I was charged a quarterly fee to have the Kaplan Center dispute a prescription denial and cannot get the prescription for chronic pain from them even though the prescription has been approved by my insurance company. I cannot use this approval with another doctor and will be forced to start over again. (3) The technicians that administered the IVs were so incompetent that I called my former Integrative Medical Doctor to resume my IV treatments with that practice. (The pain caused by these technicians was terrible with bruising that lasted more than two weeks. I had to argue with one technician to have lidocaine applied to my venipuncture site. She told me to have the doctor write a $40 prescription for a tube of lidocaine. [This was resolved; I should not have to argue with "anyone" at "any" practice to receive an approved application of a topical pain relief cream prior to venipuncture.] The only technician who did not bruise and hurt me has since left the practice. (4) Upon review of my IV prescription at The Kaplan Clinic, my doctor told me that the dose of glutathione was so strong that it would make a well person ill. In addition, they were giving me a half Myers Cocktail at full price which would not be effective because of its low strength. The half Myers was supposed to be reviewed after one week, but was not, resulting in exorbitant costs for totally ineffective IV treatments. NO ONE COMMUNICATES WITH ANYONE AT THIS CLINIC! After weeks of trying to contact The Kaplan Clinic to have my prescriptions sent to the pharmacy, I have given up. A service from my employer called The Kaplan Clinic on my behalf for more than 6 weeks to try to get my prescriptions either called into the pharmacy or transferred. After kicking my case up another level, I was told that they could do no more for me. Under Dr. Lillienfield, I took an overnight sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea. I was told that I had a mild case. After many weeks of researching CPAP machines with my health insurance company, United HealthCare told me that the doctor had not written a prescription for the CPAP machine. My current physician contacted The Kaplan Clinic to get my medical records. They were incomplete and the Sleep Study was missing. After the fact, I was able to forward a copy of the study to my current doctor who wrote me a prescription for a CPAP machine. Without my current doctor's willingness to help me with treatment for sleep apnea, I would have had to repeat the study at an expensive sleep center (not covered by insurance). The only positive thing that I can say about The Kaplan Clinic is that their acupuncturist, Rebecca Berkson, is the best. I wish that she had a private practice so that I could go to her for treatment. She is kind and compassionate; she offers outstanding treatment as an herbalist and as an acupuncturist. The pain and suffering that I have experienced at the hands of The Kaplan Clinic are "immeasurable." As of mid-March, I severed my ties with them. read more

I called, they don't participate with ANY insurance companies in the national capital area. That was the first red flag. How much for the first consult? Question asked repeatedly, finally...$1800.00 for the first visit, that includes nothing. It is unconscionable for these people to call themselves physicians, healers. This is the new travelling magic elixir of medicine, just give me your money, all your money, and I'll cure you. Please, lyme patients, just know that NO ONE has figured it out, it's all just trial and error! Find a doc that takes your insurance and care about you. read more

I received a call from John, a Director at Kaplan, who apologized for my experience. He explained their understanding of the law and also inquired about what I had found out. He proceeded to call the Medicaid office and, to my knowledge, received the same information that I did, which is there is no restriction on treating patients who receive medicaid if they are paying out of pocket. John took ownership of this situation, which was nice. As I understand they will change their policy going forward. He also offered for us to make an appointment again, which I may do depending upon the therapist's recommendation. It wasn't a good experience to start, but it's nice when a business tries to right a wrong - not everyone does that anymore - and I definitely give them credit for that. read more
