I came in with a specific injury, I expressed very clearly my expectations, instead I keep getting offered these special offers about back pain relief and sound wave technology. The amount of times the X-rays for my back were "suggested" while coming in for a knee complaint is incomprehensible. Severely disappointed. Just lucky I left with only spending $50 which was supposed to be a "deal" for the "examination" of symptoms I knew I already had. Are chiropractors supposed to be salesmen? I have heard good and bad things about the science and long term effects of chiropractic. When I first noticed numbness in the bottom of my feet, I went straight to conventional medicine, but tests and Dr appointments were couldn't be scheduled for months. On the other side, Dr Van Wagagenen had me in the week I spoke to him, had my spine X-ray and 6 adjustments in before my first medical appointment. In this world where you can't really get the conventional care you need in a timely manner, I'm grateful there are places like this that can work with you right away. I would suggest keeping an open mind throughout treatment. They use a combination of machines, adjustments and herbals to get you right. The staff is great and the hours are such that i can go in without greatly impacting my work schedule. I am blow away at how amazing this office and this doctor is. I have been seeing him for 5+ years and I am so thankful for the time and attention the office and doctor has put into my care. To address other "bad reviews", I am just blown away that these people are complaining at the doctor wanting to be thorough.. I work in health care and it amazes me how patients may have clear expectations of what they want but have absolutely no idea as to what goes into that problem being fixed. It was a a two hour time-wasting hot mess that should have taken 15 minutes max. Staff was condescending and repeatedly asked about "my husband's work" annd how much he made. what?! Along with many assumptions that I did not work and had endless time. This was even after I politely pointed out that I was the bread winner at the moment. Even if I was not, (I have been a SAHM in my past), my time was not free then either. I was told the entire back was inflamed and that x-rats were urgent, but they couldn't read the x-rays without another appointment and more money. That is baloney. I work in the field of healthcare. So much time wasted as they tried to push for treatments for non-existent problems. Finally escaped with the problem I went in for worse than before, two-hundred less dollars and two hours away from work. read more

Great place if you are looking for snake oil. I went in just needing shockwave therapy on my hip. I went a total of three times. Every time I got a big sales pitch on how I need to spend thousands on a package of things I didn't need or want. I warned them I have an impingement into my spinal cord so they should not touch my neck. It wasn't in pain and hadn't been in a few years. I already had a great and honest chiro and massage therapist. He told me xrays were free and to just do it. They told me they couldn't bill my insurance or they couldn't do all the necessary "modalities." The repeatedly told me my body was a ferrari that was expensive to maintain. He told me I had gut issues--I disagreed. He told me I was allergic to beef, carbs, dairy, etc. I repeatedly told him I wasn't. Each visit he wrenched on my arm to prove I had gut issues and an infection in my gut and need to take $75 of nasty herbs that did make my stomach upset. In the sales pitch meeting (it's your second visit), his assistant tried to do it. She tried to tell me I have a bulging disc--I don't and have had an MRI. Mind you, I wasn't there for my back. She quickly backed off. Then she tried to tell me about my curved spine and how they could fix it. I have scoliosis and have my entire life and it has caused me zero issues. The last visit they spent pulling on my arm and aggravating my neck to no end to tell me about gut issues I don't have. My neck was in horrible pain afterwards that now I have to pay my chiro and massage therapist to fix. They almost sent me out the door without the shockwave therapy--the only reason I was there. The first two visits they shock waved my butt which wasn't having issues. The third visit I asked if they should shock wave my hip where it hurt. Finally, they responded "oh yes, we do it where it hurts." HUH? They did a manual adjustment of my mid back that wasn't having issues and now they've thrown that out of whack and my chiropractor is having to fix it. Never in my life did I have a mid back issue until coming here. The last straw is that they fraudulently billed my insurance $360 for a visit I paid cash for in full and for stuff that was never done (exercises) and the "free" xrays. I found someone else and in just two visits of shockwave therapy got the relief I was looking for and they didn't try to sell me any snake oil. This place is a nightmare. I'm out a ton of money having other people fix all the damage they did to me. RUN AWAY!!!! read more

Where do I start... I got an X-ray on the first day. The doctor did not interpret that x-ray with me, his assistants did, who, to my knowledge, don't have medical credentials or anything. The assistant told me my spine was compressed (at 17 years old) and needed chiropractic care for sure. After seeing my primary doctor more recently and getting x-rays, I was assured there was no compression in my spine, just some crookedness that could be tended to, rather than compression which is irreversible and scary! Next, this guy immediately lectured me on my diet and gave me new dietary restrictions... a chart that my mother, an eating disorder therapist, said was unacceptable and wouldn't allow me to follow. As an underweight kid already, his restrictions could've placed me in the hospital. He pushed numerous supplements, some he'd give for free and some he'd charge for. Meanwhile any question I had for him with regard to posture, exercise or stretching, he would simply deflect or give a super vague and unhelpful response. The adjustments left me in pain when I left, without fail. I was there for 6 months and the pain never subsided. One session which was particularly bad was when he took some sort of massage looking tool and drove it into my lower stomach. He pushed very hard, and it was excruciatingly painful. When I was clearly distressed and asking him to stop, he wouldn't. He had to do it for a certain amount of time, and more than once. I almost cried from both intense pain and that despite my pleads for him to stop, he wouldn't. He even chuckled at my reactions to the pain. His reasoning for this weird treatment was once again vague, having something to do with releasing a tight muscle. If there was one place that I could entreat each and every individual not to give their money to, it would be this one. read more

NO ONE compares to Doctor as he adjusts based on what your body is saying unlike most chiropractors that just do the same thing every time. Not to mention his staff is WONDERFUL! I did not stay with Dr. V. long enough to review his services, but felt I needed to share about my interactions with him and his office. I had an appointment scheduled from 2-3pm and did not see the doctor until 4pm, which then meant I didn't leave until 5pm. I was pretty frustrated at waiting two hours to see him without anyone in the office letting me know that he was running several hours behind. During my initial consultation, I brought up my infertility (one of the reasons I wanted to see him) and he mentioned that it was surprising that I was infertile when I had "a body like a Ferrari." I felt very uncomfortable with this comment and didn't know how to respond. I returned the second day to get adjusted and was surprised to see a 36-week recommended treatment plan. I told him that I could not commit to that amount of time and money and that we would likely rather just pursue IVF, to which he responded: "Your body has so much miscommunication, it's full of toxins, your hormones are all out of whack - GOOD LUCK getting pregnant, even with IVF!" I was stunned and honestly speechless at such a rude and tasteless comment. All three of these experiences felt so inappropriate. I would hope that any professional would utilize more respectful communication - especially with women, and especially about sensitive issues like infertility. read more

Long story short: My husband was scammed. He had been wanting to visit a chiropractor for several years due to various issues He has had with his back, so He finally decided to do some research on highly-rated chiros in our area. This office topped the list, so he had great expectations. When he first visited, the staff seemed very helpful and knowledgeable. They explained the different phases of compression and how it could affect his mobility etc. What they were explaining to him seemed legitimate. He paid $197 for his consultation and x-rays, but thought nothing of it because he wasn't sure if these specific services were covered by his insurance. When he returned for his follow up appointment, he was presented a breakdown of various issues found up and down his spine, which was very concerning. He was also informed that his insurance didn't cover chiropractic visits when they "checked" with his insurance company. The lady he sat with tried to sell him a "deal" of 30 visits with additional services they recommended for the low price of $3,100, "discounted" from roughly $4,420 if he recalls correctly. He told her he couldn't afford that and was really hoping his insurance would cover the expenses. Shortly after, he visited a different chiro office and gave them the x-rays that were taken at Well Being Chiropractic. They did not see the same 'issues" that were pointed out to him at Well Being. The second office also took his insurance card and ran it to find that his insurance did in fact cover chiropractic adjustments. He was adjusted at the second location with a simple $15 co-pay. Please, don't let this business fool you. If he hadn't listened to the family member who referred him to the second chiropractic office, he may have very well tried to make things work by forking out $3,100 for services that should have been covered. He may have also suffered long-term damage from the office adjusting "issues" that were never really there. We would never recommend this office. read more

I have been experiencing shoulder and neck pain for years, but had not had a flare up in a long time... until June of this year. I found this chiropractor and decide to go in for an exam, and somehow let myself get talked into a 4 month "treatment Plan". After all those visits, I feel nothing has changed, Sure it is nice to have you back and neck cracked but as far as relief... nothing. I would ask questions to try and get a better understanding of why my shoulders and neck would still pop but he would give me a short dismissive answer and on his way. I always felt like the Dr was in such a rush to get me out of the room, I timed my visit once on my cell phone and from the moment i walked into the room, untill he was done. 3:48 sec. It was in and out. Being a private pay patient i thought there might be a little more care involved in his practice...but no. Dr.Brian has been a life saver. I will try and make this short. I moved here from the Sf Bay Area a year ago with several repetitive use injuries. I am a semi retired hairstylist of 22 years and prior to that a pet groomer for 14 years. I had two amazing applied kinesiology chiropractors and one awesome massage therapist to keep me going with a thriving full time business. Working with injuries. You never really get to recover. So when I finally did choose to call it quits full time. I was at the point of surgery. After being rear ended by someone two years ago, I decided to search for a Chiropractor because I wasn't feeling better after being treated by my doctor at Kaiser. By some miracle, while searching online, I came across Dr. Van Wagenen with Well Being Chiropractic in Roseville. I was a little apprehensive because I hadn't been to a chiropractor, but he made me feel very comfortable with his recomended treatment plan. He listened to my concerns every step of the way and after several weeks I started to feel much better. Not only did he help with the pain and stiffness from the accident, but he also helped with other pain and limited range of motion problems I was experiencing. After my treatment plan was complete and I was not experiencing pain or other problems from the accident, I decided to set up a long term plan with Dr. Van Wagenen because to this day he still helps my body and spirit feel better after each Chiropractic treatment. I want to give this place a better review... the lady at the front desk and Dr. Brian (if a bit heavy handed) were kind, the place is open and fancy with all the gizmos and gadgets you could want a chiropractor to have. We just moved into the area, looking for a good holistic chiropractor for my pregnant wife, and they are supposed to have a lot of experience with pregnant women. (Edited) But, unfortunately, we had a bad experience. Dr. Brian refunded our visit (except for the supplements that we are still using, per my request, he would have refunded those too, if I was a less fair person), and talked over our issues with me afterwards, even promoting another practitioner that might be more suitable for my wife's needs. Hopefully he will take some of what I said to heart and be more fluid with patients in the future. But, my wife is still in pain now 10 days later. I went in for a consultation yesterday. I arrived early for a 4pm appt. and spoke with two of his assistants about why I was there. I was in his office waiting for over an hour. I guess if I wanted to have the "exam" it was going to pay the $97 fee. They don't work with Insurance and evidently you won't see the infamous Dr. Until you agree to pay the exam fee. We came to Well Being because it was the only clinic that advertised infrared treatments. My wife has peripheral neuropathy of her feet and we were going to try the infrared as drugs (Gabapentin) and acupuncture gave no relief. The initial visit was interesting as the intent seemed to be to treat her entire body, not just the feet. The usual X-rays were taken and the conclusion "thin bones" was made. That was not surprising as she is 75 years old and 108lbs. I would also like to point out that over the last 30 years she has had both knees and one hip replaced, the 4th cervical disk removed, surgery on the liver, small intestine and a portion of the large intestine removed. She is not a stranger to pain & discomfort. During the visit she was treated to the vibrating chair, the infrared sauna box, the Sanaxes machine and the infrared light for her feet. She was also put on a table where, with a waving of hands, it was decided there were "Foods to Avoid". We were given a jar of Trans Derma Pro Cream for her feet. Later examination of the jar revealed that it "Supports Blood Flow for Intimacy, Increased Libido and Stamina for Better Workouts". Very appropriate. Then came the sales pitch. Guess we looked like a cash cow. a program of all the treatments, as well as nutritional supplements, would be discounted by 20%, for 45 visits, for $10,000 up front. If the treatments met no initial success and we elected to stop they would still keep all the money. We demurred. For the 3rd visit we were requested to bring in all on my wife's meds. While the doctors assistant lay on a couch with my wife seated next to her and the assistants hand on her back, he proceeded to appraise her meds I guess this is supposed to be some sort of telekinetic transposition. No idea. It was deemed necessary for her to take more of her vitamins. I interjected that at her weight extra vitamins beyond what she could absorb would simply be passed out of the body. The retort was "I have 30 years experience". Shortly there was criticism of the amount of vitB12 & other meds. My response that this was prescribed for a brain chemistry problem by an experienced neurologist was met with "We are obviously not a good fit". At that point he left the room and we had no more contact with him. We did continue the infrared and Sanaxes treatment for he feet, which was the initial concern, for another 5 visits. The two young ladies who administered the treatments, Dawn and Mazy, were both very gentle and professional. We appreciate the manner in which they treated my wife. As to the veracity of the doctor, please draw your own conclusions but keep one hand on your wallet. read more

Just had another great adjustment. It seems that Dr. Van wagenon is able to help with just about anything because I haven't run into a problem that he can't help with! With other chiropractors I may get a good adjustment that will help me temporarily but Dr Van helps with nutrition, exercises, adjustments, and at home exercises which has given me long term solutions. Basically he helps you take control of your own health, which I think everyone wants. He has a testing method which seemed a little weird at first but it really works! They are very nice people and I do believe that they truly think what they do helps people. The chiropractic side is useful and helpful. However, to them that is a very small part of what they do. I didn't really want to right any reviews but I came to the conclusion that you cannot ethically, morally or scientifically tell someone that they are allergic to something by just pulling their arm and telling them to resist. Unfortunately it cost me almost $300 to finally get an actual chiropractic adjustment and to find out that they aren't really a chiropractic office. They are using a chiropractic degree to be called "doctor" and then they try to sell on other treatments. First visit was telling me how wonderful everything is and then a basic exam with no adjustments as well as some x-rays. Next appointment was a sales pitch that capped out at roughly $4200 for six months of visits. They will have you lay on a table, the chiropractor will then put a piece of paper on your belly with words on it like "gluten" "meat" "Nuts & seeds" etc. He will then point at those words and pull your arm back. According to them, they believe that when you can resist the force of him pulling, you aren't allergic to that food item. If you can't resist the force with enough strength, you're allergic. I know what I'm allergic to because I've had allergy panels done recently by actual medical doctors and gluten wasn't one of them. The snake oil became noticeable right off the bat when I'm told to resist the force of him pulling my arm which I did and then he asks me to look to my left with my eyes, then he pulls my arm again but never asked me to resist. Obviously most people will not be expecting another arm pull so naturally you won't be resisting. Anyway, I don't really want to slam them because I'm sure there's a mental aspect to all of this that might help some people but I'm writing this for people in search of a traditional chiropractor. Make no mistake, the only reason he can be called doctor is because he has a degree in chiropractic care. He is NOT a licensed allergist. I have been to many different chiropractors and naturopaths so I feel I have some experience to reflect and base my review on. I have experienced good, really good and quite bad and so-so chiropractors. I have some spinal issues and require pretty articulate care and I tend to have high expectations. I visited Dr. Brian Van Wagenen for the first time about 6 weeks ago (today is 3/30/16) after discovering him on google and reading over 56 five star reviews that were impressive. Dr. Brian and his staff (Cambria) are kind, patient and very thorough. In fact, after my first consultation Dr. Brian went out of his way on his own time to drive over to my previous chiropractor's office to pick up my x-rays. Dr. Brian spends more time with me per appointment than I have ever experienced in allopathic care and even compared to most other chiropractors. I also love that he provides nutrition with applied kinesiology; and expertly, I might add. Since visiting Dr. Brian the healing I have experienced is 1.Everyday migraines stopped after one visit, in the passed 6 weeks I went from a nearly everyday migraine occurrence to only one. 2. Neck pain and stiffness alleviated. 3. Skin itchiness alleviated 4. Energy improved and stabilized ... 5. Anxiety reduced... 6. Arm and shoulder pain/numbness while sleeping eliminated... 6. Hip pain alleviated 7. Posture improved and much more. Most importantly Dr. Brian provided healing to my 21 month old daughter. I had been praying for help as I was at my whit's end and a nervous wreck with the chronic lack of sleep and stressful days. My daughter at one and a half yrs old almost never slept through the night and was generally a very fussy and clingy child that cried A LOT over EVERYTHING. After two visits with Dr. Brian she has slept through the night EVERY night since! I consider it a miracle. She is happier and less fussy, less clingy, cries only half as much as before. Previously, I had taken her to another chiro with no results; I've tried home made tinctures, herbal remedies, body work, massage, subliminal music, diet changes for her and I... etc... nothing else worked. I only wish I had found Dr. Brian earlier. Additionally, Dr. Brian is providing care to my 22 year old daughter and after only one visit she is experiencing pain relief and a much needed attitude shift and new outlook. It may be a little more costly than other run of the mill chiropractors, however, I cannot put a price on the well being that has been provided to myself and my family. It is my feeling that health, healing and well being are priceless and in that mindset the cost feels truly small. In my opinion, Dr. Brian is a true healer and since knowing him I often recommend him to my friends and family. One more thing I'd like to add, my kids and I have not been sick once since visiting with Dr. Brian; even being exposed during preschool and other activities where others are sick we have remained well. After reading these reviews of Dr. Brian, it honestly makes me sad that there are bad reviews on this website. These people who write bad reviews clearly know NOTHING about what he actually does. I have been with doctor Brian for a year now and I understand completely that my pain in my neck and back isn't something that is a "quick fix" and anyone who thinks it can be doesn't understand how chiropractic works. I also understand that pain after treatments isn't his fault, it is the fact that my body is reacting to a problem I have had for years! To expect perfect results for the first few visits isn't taking into account the YEARS of pain that they have. Seriously?! Use your brains people. I like to think of it like a diet.. You don't lose all the weight at once. Its a process. The pricing is reasonable considering the amount of pain I had been in. Can you really put a price on your health? I love the treatment plan because it helps me budget better. One thing I love about Dr. Brian is he is someone I can work with. He isn't someone who is trying to take your money. He is willing to refund me anything that I don't feel had worked. I have never had a problem with him financially. Another note about the amount of time Dr. Brian spends with you. I appreciate that he understands that I don't want to spend all day in his office. However, if I ever felt neglected or rushed and I COMMUNICATED it to him, I know he would be more than willing to spend more time with me. I know because personally I have done so. I am not one to write reviews but after reading the other reviews, I felt like the ones who wrote the one star, two star haven't truly understood who he is or taken the time to understand what he actually does. Although it is possible this chiropractor has been able to help others with their pain, I did not continue with him because I felt he was scam. A couple clear points with my experience: First, claimed that his type of treatment is not covered by my insurance although my insurance was charged $275 for one visit, and I was charged $65. Second, his treatment program was going to cost $5,000 dollars for 40 visits. Third, x-rays were reviewed with me by his RECEPTIONIST, not him. Fourth, he would dig his fingers into my neck to make a point about how I could not move it properly, I am assuming to show I neck problems when my actual pain was in my lower back. Fifth, when I decided to not continue with him, he called me twice to get me to come back. Serious medical professionals are not desperate to make a sale. This place is the worst. I found them online and they seemed to have good reviews. I had just moved to the area last thursday and needed a ajustment from all the lifting. They seem to give me the last appt as the appt was at 6:50 and they close at 7. So I wait all day! When I get there I'm in at least a half hour consultation about how great DR Brian is how much I need him and literally that he works miracles. I felt the sell of the consult major but I figured whatever as long as he helps out. so finally i see the Dr and he is bending me and pushing on areas that literally had me gasping at how hard he was pressing. That was done in about 15min. Next thing I know Im given a paper to go get X-rays and come back for a treatment plan. No regard for my immediate pain and tells me he can't do anything till he see's the X-rays cuz for all he knows I have a tumor and he likes to be positive. so I'm like ok how did this over priced at 75$ adjustment turn into a consultation? to become X-rays to a tumor? Then pay for another visit thats 55$ 85$ deepending on treatment plan. Which after asking more then once what a normal treatment plan is? Im told it averages 40 to 50 times a year. That comes to at least once a week for one year at 85$ a treatment, because after asking what determines the price difference. Apparently its 55$ if you pay for the year of predicted treatments in advance??? They are the biggest racket I have ever experienced. I left confused and un helped. Talk about give an inch take a mile. I rarely write reviews but this can't go unreported. Also I decided to do more research on there reviews and come to find most of there reviews that pop up right away are direct clients brain washed clients that are specifically asked there opinion per there forms. They are not organic reviews. Like this one... I will never return and I hope If you go your prepared be there every week for a year at least. I am 20 and have no discomfort in my spine, but often worry about my posture and mobility. I looked on yelp and saw good reviews for Well Being, and got a discount examination online so I decided to give them a try. The atmosphere in the office is pleasant and welcoming, very serene. I was scheduled for 9, after paperwork was done I was seen at 10:20. The doctor was nice but focused on what "is wrong" with my body. He was quick with the exam (5 minutes about) and pointed out multiple problems. Namely "inflammation in my neck", so he needed to x-ray to be sure of what action to take in treatment. After I politely declined the x-ray (it was extra $100 and not included in my $50 deal, which was worth a $150 exam) he suggested I rent a book from his office, read on treatments he uses, and reschedule for the X-ray. This place seems nice, but they push for sales. After receiving my discount, I was contacted by THEM to schedule appt. Overall, they seem really nice but also hungry for repeating customers. The doctor ultimately declined my payment as he "didn't need my money". This happened quickly after turning down the X-ray, and he seemed to be frustrated or restraining some anger toward me. This was an awkward experience with him and felt very rude. He showed me the door, and then walked out of the office himself (to maybe blow off some steam?) In my opinion, he seemed unprofessional, and relied too heavily on his own credibility. I value my money and work hard for it, and I don't like getting the run-around with doctors. Take my review with a grain of salt. This place may be right for you, but definitely not for healthy bodies looking for simple checkup and adjustment. I went to Brian for two months with no progress. He pushed supplements on me as well as orthotics and neither worked at all. The last straw was during my last appt. while he was doing his treatment I was in extreme pain and he continued anyway. This caused a pop on the left side of my chest and now I'm in excruciating pain. I've lost wages because I had to leave early from work as well as call in sick the next couple days. I feel I should be compensated for work lost but I guess that's not going to happen. He may be helping others, I don't know, but he sure didn't help me. At this point I am worse than went I first went to see him. I'm going to have to go see my Dr and hope that I'm not out of work for too long. read more

After viewing some very positive google reviews, I needed a chiro in the area. I know of several Chiros in the area I will never see since they were either under investigation and/or just douche bags. I saw brian and he was great. Great treatment and was always able to get to get me in because of my hectic schedule. read more
