Where do I begin? How about from the beginning? I am sure you can understand that when I first started shopping around for caterers, the possibilities were endless. Well look no further. I narrowed down my (extremely thorough) list of caterers to 2. The menus were similar, the prices were similar, the reviews were similar... but the one thing that the other company was missing was YULIA. She was responsive, friendly, patient and helpful. She is the #1 reason I chose Well Dunn.. and boy, what a great decision that was. She remained all of the above throughout the entire process. We invited our mom's to DC for the tasting. My mother is quite a "food snob", and my mother in law is quite picky with her food, so Well Dunn was up for a big challenge. Not only were were all impressed, but they were more than happy to make the changes that were requested. Now, I need to talk about Javier. Javier was our waiter during the tasting. We were so impressed with his professionalism that we requested that he be at our wedding. Well, we got lost in the piles of to-do-lists and forgot to follow up with this request. To my surprise, Javier approached me on our wedding day (needless to say I was so happy to see him), and said that he made sure that he kept his schedule open for our wedding day, and that he would be our own PERSONAL waiter throughout the night. Trust me when I tell you, you will not have time to eat. Well, Javier made sure that we had our own appetizers during cocktail hour (he was standing to the side with a silver platter as our pictures were taken), my champagne glass was never empty... and when I was sweating from dancing... Javier pulled out a fan to cool me down. I literally felt like a Princess. We nicknamed him "Saint Javier". Well Dunn catered our July 20 wedding, and they exceeded expectations on all accounts. We thought the food was great, and our guests commented the same (the rockfish and chicken in particular were great, as well as all of the passed appetizers). Here are a couple of things that we believe are indicative of Well-Dunn's stand-out service: -Preparation: From the walk through to ironing out the final details, we really felt that Well Dunn's vast experience and familiarity with our reception site (Meridian House) made everything so much easier for us. They helped us to think about things we hadn't already considered, and the walk-through a month before the wedding instilled confidence that everything was in place. Well Dunn also arranged for us to view a reception being hosted at our reception site in advance of our wedding so that we could visualize how we might want things arranged day of. Well Dunn also coordinated on our behalf with the wholesale liquor provider, making our last minute planning that much easier. -Outstanding day-of service: we arrived at our reception site and everything was running smoothly. We had our own personal waiter who made sure we were taken care of the entire night (a huge reason why we chose Well Dunn). We also had our food delivered to us earlier at our sweetheart table so that we would have time to visit with our guests during their dessert. Well Dunn gladly made this possible. If you go with Well Dunn, you won't regret it. Yulia is OUTSTANDING, and her team, as well as the entire Well Dunn team, is exceptional. You will not be disappointed with their service, or their food. From the very beginning, Yulia was professional, courteous, flexible, attentive, responsive, and completely made us feel like we were the most important client she was working with, though I'm sure she had several others she was juggling. Our organization hosted an evening reception and full dinner at a museum in Washington DC for 350 guests, and every details was exquisite. Yulia is extremely organized, and her execution of the evening was incredible. She has relationships with excellent lighting and AV vendors, as well, and even offered to do the leg work of getting bids from different AV companies for staging and sound. As the main event planner for our organization, I was running around the entire evening trying to tend to guests, manage flow for the speakers, and ensure all was going smoothly. Yulia sought me out during the cocktail reception, made sure I had a glass of wine, prepared me my own plate of hors d'oeuvres, sat me down and made sure I had something in my belly. She checked in with me several times throughout the event to make sure I was happy. At the end of the event, she prepared to-go bags for me and some of my staff, and sent me home with the most delicious chocolate lava cakes I have ever had. Well Dunn made our event memorable for our guests in the most incredible ways. I cannot express enough gratitude for everything that Yulia and her team did to make our evening spectacular. I was the wedding coordinator of a couple that both Natalie and I were separately hired for. It was such a pleasure to work alongside Natalie during this couple's wedding! The food was amazing, Natalie was very familiar with food allergies (I'm gluten-free) and she even made a plate for all of the vendors taking a quick break. On the wedding side of things, all of the food was presented beautifully and the staff was very friendly and professional. All of the food bars looked amazing and the cake was also cut beautifully by Natalie's team. Natalie's staff also handled to furniture set up and arrangements. We just used Well Dunn to cater our smallish (22 guest) wedding reception in capital hill. I've been to a lot of weddings and I can honestly say that our wedding had the best food of any I've ever been attended. Well Dunn did a great job. We worked with Madeline and from the start we knew she could just handle things...we didn't have to worry. All of our vendors for the wedding did a great job, but we were a little nervous about some of them. But we didn't have to worry with Well Dunn. They asked the right questions, gave great suggestions, and worked seamlessly with our reception hall from the start. You really don't want to worry about whether your vendors are going to perform. Even if they pull it off in the end, you just don't want to sweat it out. I'll bet my fiance and I said "even if everything else goes haywire, at least our cater is on top of things" at least 10 times in the week leading up to the wedding. Believe me, THAT is huge. Because you will stress out about your limo company, and your priest, and whatever musician you hire, etc, etc. As for the food, they have a million options that all sound great. We went with a combo steak/seafood plate for each guest and it turned out terrific. I'm not a food snob, but here's the way I'd describe the food. You know how most weddings you attend have "good but not great" food? Our food was more of the "this could easily be served in a crazy expensive restaurant" type. As for price, it's a little expensive, but its worth it and at least the price makes sense. I got quotes from other caterers and they had all kinds of wacky price structures, none of which were cheaper than Well Dunn. As an events manager, it is wonderful to know that when I work with Well Dunn i can trust their team completely from first planning email to last dish cleared. All of the WD catering managers have been easy to work with in the planning process, and on-site. They think of everything and execute so that it looks effortless (though I know its not!). On-site staff and servers always dress and conduct themselves professionally. The servers seem to have a great eye for reading a crowd and responding subtly to every need. Well Dunn catered my wedding this past year, and they were fantastic. A little hard to nail down at first, but once we were able to meet with them in person, they were fantastic. Prices were really reasonable and they knew everybody involved in the wedding from the florist, to the venue manager which made things so much easier logistically. We worked with Ric, and he was a total professional and managed everything wonderfully. The appetizers were so delicious (mushroom tarts are to die for), and the main course was great, too. My only complaint was that they ran out of main courses, which I think was due to the way they served the food (they brought out platters of the main courses and served table side vs. plating beforehand). A lot of our vegetarian guests ate fish, and so they ate up some of the fish dishes instead of the ravioli they were supposed to get. Additionally, Well Dunn brought along what they called our "personal butler", Javier. His job was to make sure my husband and I ate first, constantly brought us drinks, and even fanned me when I got too hot! He was wonderful - I couldn't have asked for a better experience! At the end of the night, Well Dunn packed a little basket with leftovers and desserts for us with a bottle of champagne. It was such a nice touch and we devoured it in the hotel after! Well Dunn catered our July 2013 wedding at St Francis Hall, and we could not have been happier with our experience. We worked with such dedicated and talented professionals, who made what could have been a stressful planning process a lot of fun. Our wedding was a cocktail-style reception, which meant we had a combination of passed hors d'ourves and buffet stations, with no assigned seating. This allowed us to have a wider variety of food, and our guests raved about it. Our menu was fresh, imaginative, and so delicious. Some favorite items included lavender smoked shrimp, mustard beer battered chicken, and petit pepper steaks atop wasabi mashed potatoes. We had the most incredible buffet of summer-inspired desserts, from mini creme brulees to whoopie pies to literally-the-best-cannoli-I've-ever-had (and I've had lots of the real deal). What my husband, parents and I appreciated most was the level of service and attention to detail. As the bridal party waited for guests to arrive before the ceremony, the team set up a snack and drink table for us. We also had personal attendants for myself, my husband, and mother of the bride to make sure we stayed hydrated and fed throughout the reception. I had no idea how much I would appreciate this until that night, but it was amazing. Finally, we had so much fun working with the fabulous Yulia, who was always incredibly helpful and responsive throughout our whole planning process. I loved all my wedding vendors but Well Dunn was by far my favorite! They did an AMAZING job with everything and the food was ridiculously delicious! I had the pleasure of working with Yulia as my coordinator and she was the nicest person ever! I may be biased but I think it was by far the best wedding food I had ever tasted. I could not get enough of all the appetizers and the dinner and desserts we selected were fantastic. We had initially attended an amazing tasting where we selected all the items but I was worried that at our wedding it may not taste as good because sometimes when things are made in bulk they aren't as great. Fortunately, I was wrong! Everything served on the day of the wedding tasted just as good as when we chose it. During our private cocktail hour, my husband and our bridal party were blown away by the food. They brought in special trays just for us and assigned us a private bartender/server to serve us during the private cocktail hour and for the rest of the night. I still have wedding guests calling and messaging me raving about the food and people are posting pictures left and right of just the food itself! At the end of the night, they even made us a basket with a bottle of champagne, wine, water and all the leftover food and desserts. We ate it all for days! My only disappointment is that there wasn't more of it! Not only was the food delicious, but Yulia and her staff was beyond fantastic, both before the wedding and the night of. Before the wedding, Yulia made sure to respond to everyone of mine and my fathers crazy emails immediately and was so nice and accommodating. We must have changed things on her hundreds of times but she never hesitated or complained! When we were worried about price, Yulia worked with us on ideas how to save. On the day of our wedding, everything went so smoothly and looked great! On top of it, everyone working the event was so professional and accommodating. Our personal server was so great and continuously checked on us throughout the night to make sure always we had enough to eat or drink. Everyone always told me you don't get a chance to eat at your own wedding, but by the time I left that night I was so full I could barely walk! Yulia and Well Dunn went above and beyond to make our wedding fabulous and we couldn't have asked for a better night or for better food! If I could rate them higher than a 5 I would! We were originally deciding between them and another caterer (who as a little cheaper) but after talking to Yulia and attending the tasting, we knew there was absolutely no comparison. My husband and I (and my parents) are so glad we chose Well Dunn and we must have said it 10 times the night of our wedding after numerous times since then. If you are hesitating on hiring them because of the price, I recommend cutting corners elsewhere and splurge on hiring Yulia and Well Dunn! There are no words that can adequately express how much we loved working with Yulia and Well Dunn for our wedding at the Carnegie Institution for Science. The food was insanely delicious- some of our guests are lamenting the fact that they didn't also get a to-go tray of the risotto cakes from the cocktail hour- and the service both before and during the wedding could not possibly have been any better. Yulia responded to every email promptly and professionally, no matter how many times we changed our mind about the most minor details (and then there was the time we asked her to completely re-do the initial proposal because we didn't communicate with each other properly before contacting her; we were amazed she didn't drop us on the spot). Every little thing we wanted, we received, including a "special" meal (Kraft mac and cheese and cranberry sauce) for a picky eater. Just prior to the ceremony, both sides of the bridal party were provided with trays of food. We were all starving by that time, so it was much appreciated. The staff were consistently pleasant and helpful, especially one particularly kind lady who was assigned to the bride and groom to make sure we had everything we needed all day. We might actually be the first bride and groom in history who got to eat on our wedding day! The best part, though, was the trays of food we were able to take home with us at the end of the night. After months of planning our wedding, we are too exhausted to cook, so the leftovers are much appreciated. Seriously, ask for the risotto cakes. They are amazing. read more

We worked with Yulia at Well Dunn catering for our July 2012 wedding. From the beginning, Yulia made us feel confident that we had chosen the right caterer for our big day. Yulia was extremely responsive even before we signed on with Well Dunn. This was one of the big reasons we decided to go with them. I contacted 7 other caterers and had a horrible time trying to communicate with them. Yulia was always available to answer my questions and had extermely helpful thoughts and suggestions. She also listened to what my husband and I wanted and customized menus that followed our tastes and budget. We had a horrible time getting other caterers to respond to our food likes/dislikes and budgetary concerns. The food was outstanding. All of our guests commented on how great the food was. The service was excellent as well. I cannot begin to describe how amazing Javier was. He was our personal butler for the evening and we did not want for anything. Before I could even think about being thirsty, he was by my side with an array of beverage options. As the bride, I was worried about not being able to eat or drink during the wedding, but Javier ensured my husband and I ate our meals by serving us while our guests were working on their first course and the Best Man and Maid of Honor were giving their speeches. Javier even fanned me while I was dancing outside! I couldn't believe it. Our guests were in awe of this level of service and all commented about how beyond amazing it was. First, Well Dunn is incredibly organized and detail oriented. Madeline made sure that every detail was taken care of during both the planning process and during the event. She patiently answered every question I had, and made sure that we had everything we needed. I trusted her judgment and left all the details (and even some decisions!) to her. Having never planned a wedding before, I was so grateful to have someone made sure I didn't forget anything. Second, the execution on my wedding day was flawless. The setup was on time and looked amazing. Most importantly, I didn't have to spend any of my time or energy making adjustments or following up on anyone. Well Dunn catered a party for 50 guests at our home and did a superb job. Our coordinator, Natalie, was very friendly and responsive during the planning process. The menu was designed perfectly around our initial requests, with added tweaks to accommodate special dietary concerns.The staff - supervisor Jair, chef Franz, server Natalia, and bartender Greg - were super efficient, friendly, and professional. They even dressed up our patio with lanterns and votive candles, an elegant bonus we hadn't even requested. They also served us apps and drinks while we waited for our guests to arrive - a pre-party! Our menu included passed hors d'oeuvres and finger-friendly buffet food, all beautifully presented. Every item was a hit, but a few standouts were: grilled margarita shrimp, mini rioja short rib tostadas, portobello veggie sliders, and pecan crusted chicken skewers with maple bourbon sauce. Well Dunn catered our wedding in October 2013 and did a spectacular job! We wanted to have our food served station-style for a fun, laid back feel but still have some unique dishes and a quality that would blow everyone away. Madeline Zavesky and the Well Dunn team went above and beyond in every way. Besides their fantastic options - of which there are a huge variety - they had no problem accommodating our many special requests including Kosher meals for an Orthodox Jewish couple on my husband's side, a hot chocolate station with apple cider donuts, and a table with fruits/veggies/cheese/crackers/finger foods (included to appease my parents who feared our choices for the passed hors d'oeuvres might be too "foodie" for some). We were also greatful that we were allowed to try pretty much whatever we wanted at our tasting. And Madeline offered some great suggestions on seating arrangements for the ceremony and reception when we scheduled our walk-through of the venue. Well Dunn is the best! My husband and I worked with Yulia and Cameron. They were both incredibly hard working, organized, great listeners, a joy to be around, and very creative. We got married in Maryland but live in California. They made planning our wedding from across the country so much easier by being very responsive and on top of everything. Yulia was with us on the big day. She and our wedding coordinator worked so well together. They were like a dream team. The food was all so delicious. We had a vision for a champagne infusion bar "bubbly bar" with fruits and different flavorings. We described what we had in mind, and they executed it perfectly. This review comes way, way late (I don't think I was using Yelp at the time) - but someone asked me for a catering recommendation today and I immediately told them "Well Dunn." And I was so inspired, I came to Yelp to enter a review. Well Dunn catered our 2007 wedding reception for 220 people at the Barns of Wolf Trap and they were fabulous from start to finish. SO easy to work with, accommodating, helping us figure out where to cut corners (and not). We wanted a heavy hors d'oeuvres buffet, something most caterers in the DC area were simply not interested in accommodating. Well Dunn came through with a brilliant proposal and worked with us to create a "kids bar" as well. Nearly ten years later, we STILL get compliments from people remembering our reception. And nearly ten years later, my husband and I still talk about our tasting at their lovely Capitol Hill townhouse as one of our favorite memories from our engagement. We worked with Ric at Well Dunn for our recent wedding, and we could not have asked for a better experience. Our reception was held in a venue that had never been used for a wedding previously, and they handled everything perfectly. As a meeting planner, it can be difficult finding vendors across the country for our meetings and events. We chose Well Dunn Catering for a formal evening event in D.C. as part of our annual meeting. I can say without hesitation that if you are considering Well Dunn Catering, there is no need to look further. Their staff was on-point throughout the night from butler passing drinks and appetizers to the military-like delivery of our seated dinner. The food was delicious and they paid attention to the small details. Among my favorites were the mini desserts served family style and the rock candy sugar that accompanied their coffee service.
